WHAT DO YOU THINK OF BISON B.C.?

bison bcWhat do you think of Bison B.C.? There’s been some rumblings in the underground lately about these Canadian younguns’ sophomore album Quiet Earth (Metal Blade) but I’ve yet to really give it a fair shake. What I’ve heard from their MySpace page sounds like pretty good stoner metal to me, but I’m not entirely sold yet. More than a few folks I know have said I need to seriously check out this record, and I’ll be privy to their live show in only two days; so the verdict is out.

So… What do YOU think of Bison BC?

Pretty sweet animated running bison GIF on their MySpace page…

they’re pretty fucking awesome. they have an awesome vibe and are definitely very authentic live. they had the whole club in minneapolis headbanging and thrashing during the dates they recently did with baroness as “bison” a few weeks ago. are you going to the harvey milk show, vince?

  3. Kevin says:

Bison is amazing check out Earthbound and their new CD. They are both worth the money.
    Good Shit

what do I think?? some of the best metal, with a replay value, to come out of Canada in years. I would love to see these guys live . Hopefully they’ll come my way soon. because there live show has got to be enormous!! Just my hopes and opinion.

I think you mean the “jury is still out”.

I was actually planning on writing about them in my next (admittedly overdue) installment of “Scraping Genius Off The Wheel” because I really love what they’re doing. Their music invokes the same sense of mischievous joy that I get from Melvins records. I think I’ll be at that Knitting Factory show as well…

they are ok. they have a cool vibe to them so i would probally go see them if i had the chance. they sound like a cheap version of mastodon. worth the money in my eyes.

  8. shreddies says:

shmeh…it’s ok i guess. Not really my steeze.

  9. enemyofgod72 says:

My first reaction is they sound like Testament meets High on Fire, not a bad combo. I want to hear more so I guess that’s a good thing. Plus I’m from Buffalo so there’s an initial connection to the bison image. Speaking of that the Sabres won tonight for any hockey fans out there.

  10. The Mance says:

shits kind of weak, man. its passable stoner metal but there’s much better stuff out there.

  11. dont panic says:

One of the better beard metal bands out there today.

  12. Insomnivore says:

It’s kinda like if Mastodon had a stroke and suffered slight brain damage.

  13. Nickmeister says:

They remind me a bit of Mastodon, neh? But it’s not bad.

  14. DamagedMike says:

Decent band lacking in originality. Definitely Mastodon influence, mixed with a little thrash. There is nothing here that hasn’t been done better by others this year. Especially The Sword. I think this is Metal Blade’s effort to cash in on the success of The Sword and Mastodon for that matter. This isn’t a bad album though, it’s just not great and there are better ones out there. Examples are The Sword and The Gates Of Slumber. If you do like this though I highly recommend checking out new ones from Leather Nun (America), Lucky Funeral from Greece and Sahg (in a pseudo-progressive, melodic European kinda way). Grand Magus even. These are essentially all in the same genre of metal, but much better albums, all of them are definitely worth checking out.

    Rock on.

  15. badstainless says:

Its not too bad….. but its not that great. More “Meh” then anything.

  16. Baby Guts says:

I was diggin on it. Alot like Mastodon and The Sword had a baby and it was aborted.

  17. DBR says:

Everyone over here in Vancouver is nuts about them, cause they’re local breakthroughs!

That said they rock a bad-ass live show!

  18. [...] Like my e-comrade Vince, I too am planning to check out Canadian stoner/doom/mammal metallurgists Bison B.C. at tomorrow night’s CMJ Metal Blade/Relapse/Lifeforce showcase at Knitting Factory (Also playing: Psyopus, Tombs, This Or The Apocalypse, Left To Remain). Now if, like me, the very thought of CMJ causes you to break out in painful hives and cold sweats, the next chance for New Yorkers to see Bison B.C. will be as part of the all-day long (4pm – 4am, apparently) Beasts Of The East festival (tickets here) on November 2nd at Club Europa in Brooklyn. This band is really good but I’ll admit their first ep is better than their new lp. Kind of dry with not much vocals. Riffs are really good though. My real hope is pinned on the new -16- album. Their new record for relapse should save my stupid life. Fingers are crossed

Caught these guys at a coffee shop gig opening for High on Fire and they were absolutely terrific, and nice guys to boot.

  23. Qella says:

Bison BC are incredible. I did a quick review of Quiet Earth on my blog. http://www.kingdomofnoise.blogspot.com

They played a show in my town last month but I couldn’t get out of work. I would have LOVED to see them live.
Right up my alley type of stuff.
    Canadians rule!
