MARCO MINNEMANN GETS CRAZY ON THE DRUMS

As in both “holy shit is this guy amazing” and “the quick camera cuts and pans are making my stomach ill (more feet and hand closeups please!).” But still… This ought to be enough to make any aspiring drummers in the MS readership consider putting down the sticks for good, the way I get all depressed and never want to touch my guitar again every time I see John Petrucci play live.

Yeah.. well….
I quit.
Because every time I’ve tried to secretly sit behind my drummer’s kit and play ANYthing, only to sound like I belong on the Special Olympics drum corps, all half-way decent drumming sound amazing to me. So yes, this looks/sounds spectacular to me.

The kick drums come so fast it sounds like they’re tripping over themselves hahaah.
and that little combo he does around 1:26 is just nuts. T UP.

Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Death, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, 1000 other bands…)

PS: Marco Minneman is amazing. That last minute or so was insane.
Marco Minnemann owns. The way he’s so fluid and natural when playing, and also that he has fun playing (I remember watching him smile and laugh a lot while he was playing with Necrophagist during Summer Slaughter 2007; that drum solo was phenomenal) makes him one of the best metal drummers.
As for the others listed above: I find Marco Pitruzzella extremely overrated. The dude can blast extremely fast, that’s much it. I agree with Flo Mournier, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, and Brann Dailor. Then, I’d like to add Dave Lombardo, Derek Roddy, Tony Laureano, George Kollias, and Steve Flynn.

Technical, progressive, and metal… That fucking slays!
Gene Hogland is one that I forgot. Brann Dailor is good, but being able to just play a lot of well placed drum fills doesn’t make you a great drummer.
Tony Laureano is one I’d never have considered, but that dude can fucking rip, I’ll concede this also.
I wish there was Youtube when I was 12 and started playing drums. Well, and Youporn.
