GOD FORBID ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE

God Forbid’s new album, which has a tentative release date of February ‘09, now has a title: Earthsblood. Here’s what guitarist Doc Coyle (brother of MetalSucks blogger Dallas – duh) says in a statement:
“The title Earthsblood came to me after watching the film There Will Be Blood. What is the price of ambition? Is the blood of our bodies and the blood of the earth one and the same? With the current energy crisis, and its relation to many of the military conflicts worldwide, there has been a global, collective consciousness that has emerged in regards to the interdependence between humankind and the planet in which we inhabit. Coincidentally, the lyrics that Byron Davis and Dallas Coyle had written meshed with these revelations perfectly. This isn’t a preachy, trendy, ‘hip to be green’ album, nor is it a concept album. It’s just an abstract observation.”
The title is, as my favorite God Forbid shirt says, metal as fuck; and like Doc says, it’s not “trendy.” There’s always been been a political component to God Forbid’s music – they’re not hopping on any bandwagons.
We’ve already heard four tracks from this album, and I now feel 99.9% certain that this record is gonna be the shit. If you’re not excited already, you fucking should be.

I love that shirt too. I hadn’t heard them before I saw them for the first time, and on the wall behind their merch booth was that same shirt. That shit cracked me the fuck up. It was also the reason I stayed to see them, and god damn am I glad I did.

Awesome news and I am excited. The first time I heard these guys was live aslo. They were opening for Slayer in Augusta, Maine the night The Still Reigning DVD was filmed. I’ve seen God Forbid a few times since and have had the opportunity to meet them all except Beeker, wicked cool guys in a great band making awesome music.

Mmm yeah, sorry guys, not really feeling the title. Sounds like the newest installment of an Elder Scrolls video game. Is it too late to change it to Empire of the Gun? Whatever, as long as the music kicks ass. Can’t tell you how much I hated the title “Death Magnetic” at first which has now grown on me due to the awesome music. Kind of how an ugly nice girl can be attractive cause she’s nice. Let’s hope this album is that girl. Anyway, keep kickin ass, boys.

This should be really fuckin good if the last album was any indicator of where these guys are headed as far as musical territory. They’ve really created their own unique sound, which is no small feat in this metal day and age. Can’t wait to hear Earthsblood guys!
