You know what would get you to the next level.... talking about politics. Seriously, this is Metalsucks.... where's the political discussion????

(If it's not incredibly obvious, that's sarcasm)

Couldn't agree more with this blog entry. The only way you'll earn any lasting respect is to write the music for yourselves. If people think it sucks, oh well. At least you didn't look like a trend-hopping poser while doing it. Another deplorable expression commonly used by bands when on this subject is "pushing." As in, "yeah you know, our label is totally pushing this record" or "oh man, being in this completely-relevant-to-what-I-do-as-a-musician watch ad is really going to push us onto the people."

forcing people to like your band, although a proven and effective marketing tactic makes you about as artistically legit as Hannah Montana.

That being said, I've always thought God Forbid was a legit group of guys obviously content with making awesome music and having an honest fan base as opposed to being the flavor of the month. And it will pay off in the form of a long, steady career. As for the other end of the spectrum, look at Shadows Fall.
