No, Axl and I didn’t go on an all-night coke binge (though we did get hella high and listen to the new Slayer song last night), but I’m just getting in because I went to vote this morning… Where I WAITED ON LINE FOR TWO FUCKING HOURS.
As I got on the gargantuan line that stretched all the way down a Manhattan block, murmurs through the grapevine were that only 1 polling machine was working and there was only 1 worker there to handle it. Furthermore, said worker barely spoke English and hence was having trouble finding people’s names on the registry, hence the tremendous slowdown
WHAT IN THE FUCKING FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS FUCKING COUNTRY???
Fuck my little inconsequential vote in the perennial blue state of New York; we all know which way this state is gonna go and I’m extremely lucky to have a job where it doesn’t matter if I’m 2 hours late. What of the blue collar workers in the hotly contested swing states of Ohio, Florida and elsewhere whose votes matter more and who don’t have the same luxury? Inevitably some will give up their right to vote because they have to go back to work and can’t afford to wait on line all day. And inevitably these issues affect the poor, working class public moreso than they do the rich folk. Is this a conspiracy by the Republicans to squash the Democratic vote? It would be hard to prove but I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be true.
How can our extremely rich and supposedly democratic nation botch so severely such a simple process as going into a booth and pulling a lever? What the fuck is wrong with our government? Fucking hell. Fuck everyone. This is why we need change. Fuck being non-partisan, too; obviously this site is run by Obama supporters. May he win today and overturn the supreme corruption rampant in our government throughout the past 8 years.

I’m pretty sure you only get an hour though. And even though people are “legally allowed” time off for voting, going to work deters people from going to the polls. Vince is right that the people who need to vote the most probably won’t have as much of a chance. That’s shitty.

I know, right? When I voted in my street-level ghetto-esque neighborhood, I was shuffled from one table to another to a THIRD table before they found my name on the list, and they didn’t even ask for ID…the whole process took a god-awful 70 seconds, and I was late to work as a result. How dare they!!

Vince, does your state not allow you to vote absentee? I’ve voted by mail for the past 10 years. It’s the only way to go. I have time to read every issue, change my mind several times, and finally mail the ballot in at my leisure.
