Actually, Iraqis were able to and did play metal in Iraq until the George W. Bush-led invasion of their country. Check out the documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad for the whole story. The bands were forced to flee due to all the violence brought in by American military forces, not because metal was banned by Saddam.
