Dallas, to be honest, it would be nice to hear you say something bad about Obama for once, I mean, he's not really any better or worse than any other politician, yeah him being black and people not being racist is cool and everything, but that's not enough for me, especially if I know he's just another bought and paid for politician.
I just don't like people I respect lavishing the undeserved respect on him, and I don't think you really understand what the correct role of government is, but regardless of this, I will buy your new DVD soon and get the new album next year because God Forbid is a seriously excellent band, but mark my works you aren't going to like Obama nearly as much in a few years as you do now after we've seen his policies written into law.

Nickmeister: If you believe Living Colour and Body Count are extreme metal than that's news to me. Can Living Colour and Body Count mix on a bill with LOG, Dimmu and Slipknot and be a part of that scene or just a novelty?

I think what some of these people are trying to say is that it is stupid to celebrate now. Celebrating now is like celebrating in the first inning of a big ball game. Better yet, like celebrating when you find out the starting pitchers. Last I checked, Obama is sworn in on 1/20/09. We will see how he does. People get tired of democrats and republicans and go back and forth. I hope Obama does well. I could give a shit that he is black. I honestly don't think that is news, just sensationalism by our media. He won this election for two reasons: a) How does Bush look after 8 years? b) He is younger and more hip than McCain. Stick a cute catchphrase, promise the world, fuhgettaboudit. McCain lost the female vote for his views on abortion, had 95% of the black vote solely because he is black, and dominated the hispanic vote as well. Obama has potential sure. I personally think he will do fine. When I turned on the news on election night it made me fucking sick. They were celebrating because we have an african american president... not because we have just elected a qualified great man for the job, which I believe he is.

Long story short:

I am happy Obama won, because I like him better than McCain. (various issues including abortion, tax plan etc.) I can't help but feel like he won it for all the wrong reasons though.

Also, cant wait for the new GF cd. Hope it is good man

Dallas, I like what you've said, yet people who bought your early 2000's effort cracked the ceiling? If you're talking about a glass ceiling I would imagine that you're being a bit arrogant there... I would give Living Colour this accolade, or perhaps Body Count. And whilst these are the only 'black metal' bands that I know of (aside from your crew minus 1), I know they were around before you guys -as far as I'm aware.

@Devin: Taxing people who make $150k/year? Oh boo-fucking-hoo, dude. I was raised by a single mother who made $30-40k/year, OK? If you make $150k/year and can't make due, you're a loser.

Please face the fact that you are extremely well off and in the broader scheme of things, if anyone is asked to make sacrifices, it's going to be you, because there are so many people in lower and middle class America that have been sacrificing every day of their goddamn lives, and you reap the benefits of what their taxation pays for.

@Adam: I agree with your optimism, but metal is still, unfortunately, a white man's sport. I'm glad to see it changing too, but we have a long way to go. Even here on MetalSucks, a community of metalheads who are at least slightly more open-minded than on Blabbermouth, we have a lot of racist assholes. So, here's to the future, bro. Keep carrying the torch, Dallas.

I was incredibly proud to be an American when I watched Obama's acceptance speech. I am even more proud to be a part of the metal community as it continually becomes more ethnically and racially diverse because of bands like yours.

Thank god people are actually engaging in some serious discussion here, not third-rate Blabbermouth bullshit. Good work MS readers.

And for my part, coming from Australia, Obama deserved his victory. McCain had the right ideas, it was just his pick of people to surround him that let him down.

PALIN 2012! ... shit. did I just say that? Someone shoot me.

I don't understand how democrats will make life better.

My father owns 2 small companies. He currently is doing shitty due to the economic crisis. However with the soon to be democratic president as well as a congress and senate, taxes will inevitably be raised. With the raise of taxes, my dad's company will be making even less profit. Thus he will be forced to lay off workers...

Now people say well Obama wont raise taxes if you make below 250,000.

BULLSHIT.

Presidents RARELY get to do what they want. They sit in their office and either sign or veto bills shit that lands on their desk.

If congress wants to lower that amount, they easily can, and I guarantee you the final number will be closer to 100 - 150k

Alright, enough Texas bashing. Believe it or not, there are a few of us hard-working, metal-loving liberals down in the Lone Star state that are working to shed our image as George W. Bush's sandbox (he's not even a Texan -- he's a fucking transplant).

I can proudly add that I did my part in helping turn Bexar County (San Antonio) from red to blue with a 16-point turnaround from 2004. Amazingly, Harris County (Houston) also went for Obama this year which astounds me to no end.

Remember, we were also the home to such late famed Texas liberals as LBJ, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, and Molly Ivins. Now if we can just find some living, breathing liberals to take up their mantle, there might be hope for my state just yet.

Fuck you Demonic, boo hoo my taxes will be slightly higher and I may not be able to afford a new fridge within the time period I wanted it. That's a disgusting way to look at it, why don't you just move on down to Texas so you can see otherwise intelligent, motivated people working shit jobs because of the corporate culture?

You live in the greatest nation in the world you piece of shit, give a little, and stop being such a fucking coward, everyone here has the balls to express their beliefs instead of criticizing everyone else's, yet you admit to being too cowardly to even fess up instead of bitching and whining.

I'm a conservative and I listen to metal and sometimes I have my hate glasses on. This election was one of them where I put them on blindly and in my opinion.....it cost me something. After watching Obama win I realized that I am human and this election broke a big fucking barrier in our history. This is a major event and I'm glad I'm watching it happen. What will Obama do with his power...that is yet to be seen. What will he do with the economy....I really want to buy that god forbid album but cash is tight lol jk

The idea behind the analogy is that if the cards are already on the table and they're bad, you won't waste time waiting around to question whether the man with them could do you damage or not. For the purpose of the analogy the only thing I'm saying you wouldn't do, if you could get away, is stand around to get shot.

Unfortunately for America it seems that it will, because it want's to judge Obama on the actions he has yet to carry out rather than those he has already done.

Paul, approval ratings mean nothing, when Bush was elected he initially had a 56 per cent approval rating, that's higher than Barrack Obama has now at 52, there is always a clean sheet when a fresh face comes into play.

Dallas, like it or not, a man's friends say a lot about him as a character and Obama is bringing a lot of bankers and Zionists into his team, you think the company you keep wouldn't affect you because you have a strong mind, but Obama is paying these people for their opinions and knowledge so he has to let it affect him.

In regards to the "making it" comment, yes, because America is the biggest audience for western popular culture, it is the biggest market for the biggest winners but also for the biggest losers. There is a huge cultural divide which is set to become ever bigger.

This is what people buy into when they come to America, that because there is a bigger market they have more chance of "making it" - what they forget is that everyone else is fighting against them for their piece of glory. The American dream is just a con, it is so far out of reach for most Americans because their are always much more losers than winners.

Capitalist western culture is based on this winner takes all mentality, that is that we should fuck our brothers and sisters over for our own gain, for every millionaire there's ten families sitting on $20000 a year.

As for the world opposing America, yes this would be because of its determination to inflict "capitalism and democracy" on every country it see's fit, but you seem to think that the world is against you, hardly, there are a good number of western countries that are willing to jump into bed with America without question, the weak are attracted to power whether to oppose it or to mindlessly fight with it.

Capitalism is failing however, it is strangling itself, so we'll see how long this crazy system lasts.

As for the world opposing America, yes this would be because of its determination to inflict “capitalism and democracy” on every country it see’s fit, but you seem to think that the world is against you, hardly, there are a good number of western countries that are willing to jump into bed with America without question, the weak are attracted to power whether to oppose it or to mindlessly fight with it.

Capitalism is failing however, it is strangling itself, so we’ll see how long this crazy system lasts.

The fact that all the world leaders are 'praising' Obama's win has me a bit scared. Especially the presidents of Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran.

We're going to be a bunch of commies in the next few years.

I have to agree with Dallas over Owen.If for nothing else, I think the people elected Obama because in this "two horse race," Obama was the one running at full throttle.People are generally stupid, and that includes me.But when in dire straights, people can rise up to the occasion and use their brains in order to take care of themselves.McCain tried to dumb it down by bringing in Palin to try and capitalize on the "Hilliary Factor."They tried to use sex appeal and it completely backfired because we're at a stage in our history where people need to not be treated as mindless sheep.

I personally decided to vote for Obama because I found a lot of McCain's ideas to be recycled and dead.He sounded like he was reading from a script at all times and when debating with Obama often brought out questionable numbers and tried to sway people with little things blown out of proportion to the point where Barrack himself actually put his face in his hand and started to chuckle.McCain was running a race that he could not win fairly and he tried to slander Obama, and to McCain's dismay, Obama didn't bite back. The only Obama ad I ever saw was the one where McCain tried to shit on him and say "I'm not President Bush," and then showed the interview clip of McCain wiping W's jizz off his lips. The fact that people overseas support us again means a great deal, whether anyone believes it or not.And the fact is that Barrack does have good ideas, and if he can execute them all remains to be seen, but it's been a long time since good ideas have come from Pennsylvania Avenue. In fact, forget color, this man wants to end the pride war that has smeared our country's worth and reinvest our own money into rebuilding the great nation we once had.

Owen, you don't believe in the change that Obama promised? Here it is on a silver platter.Look at Bush's approval ratings and see how many people were proud Americans as little as 6 months ago.Now ask how many people are proud of this country as of Wednesday.I assure the numbers for the latter will be significantly higher.

And Dallas, I'm just curious. What is your stance on the Proposition 8 controversy?I'm for gay marriage and while I think it is shitty that this right is being taken away from these people, after just being given it only months earlier, to actually have a court case to try and overturn the 18,000 marriages that have already been performed in the state is absolutely preposterous and is unconstitutional if anything in our history ever was. Also, why do you feel the sates will eventually secede?Just curious on your take on the matter.

Hey Dallas, the feed on issueoriented.com is broken. The RSS button takes the user here:

http://www.issueoriented.com/feed/

But you really want them to go here, where there's a functioning feed (that you'll get stats on):

For those who didn’t vote, think about this: People died for you to vote. That’s more than enough reason to get your ass out there and respect them even if you think the game is “rigged”.

read the constitution brother, read the founding fathers concerns about this country. voting has become some kind of golden god in this country that it was never intended to be. we are a republic, bound just as much by the set in stone rules of the constitution as the whims of the people. the architects of this country viewed straight up democracy as mob rule, the vote is one of many checks and balances, not the essence of this country. obama reflects the same interventionist, big government, executive branch abuse of power policies that got us where we are, and he wont change shit. black and white is the absolute least of this countries worries at this point. he just pulled all the right heartstrings and took advantage of america being sick of eight years of george bush.

we are fucked.
