PROTEST THE HERO PROTEST EXPENSIVE MUSIC VIDEOS

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 at 10:00am by Vince Neilstein

Like clockwork, you know that the minute Protest the Hero so much as scratch their collective nutsack yer ol’ Uncle Vince will be here to write about it. So fortunately for me (but maybe not for you) PtH have got a brand new video for “Palms Read.” After the hi-fi treatments “Bloodmeat” and “Sequoia Throne” received we could only expect that the third video from Fortress would be scaled back a bit; but God bless the folks at Vagrant Records for continuing to shell out money for banner ads on this website new music videos at all.

Even if HooM! doesn’t like the new video so much, I do, though I’d greatly prefer if instead of ballerinas we got to see the exceptional dance moves at which the gents in PtH have proven themselves adept before, even if hairy, sweaty, bearded metal dudes aren’t as pleasing on the eye as pretty lasses in leotards.

Meh, I like Protest a lot but this video wasn’t too exciting. Nothing of note. Good song though… Although I probably would’ve selected “The Dissentience” over this track. Still glad we have new output either way.

GOD I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND. terrible vid tho

  3. Malacoda says:

Vince, I don’t know if you noticed, but one of the dudes was wearing a SikTh shirt at around
    1:25

  4. Princess says:

i love the band but i’m not impressed with the video at all. vince is right…Rody should have worn a leotard.

  5. Dr J says:

was that a joke video or were they serious?

dunno if its mi’s vid player but the audio sounded awful, like a bad youtube-im-gonna-play-this-song-on-my-stereo-and-lip-sync video. Love that song tho, saw them play at HOB with unearth and the absolutely slayed, albeit for 30 minutes (goddamn HOB)
Arif is a super nice dude too.

  7. fantasyh says:

It’s love budget, and it’s PTH. That’s kinda what they’re like – activists, helping out the artist community, etc. Though I think the dopey coach, and the failing dancers do have some meaning relating to the song.

  8. Ty says:

Hahaha, that video is ridiculous. It doesn’t make sense, it’s just girls dancing. Whatever, it’s a kickass song by a kickass band so I’m not too worried about it. Yeah, and Luke was wearing a SikTh shirt, which is also kickass.

  9. Devin says:

I absolutely love Protest but this video is terrible.

I saw these guys a few years back at the metro, I think with trivium. I yelled that they suck, and that goddamn lead singer had the fucking gonads to call me an aesthetic disaster.
I’m glad to see these guys still lick the brown one. At least the lead singer wasn’t doing the really fast left to right right to left head turn that he does on stage.

Yet another PTH freak, sounding off. Personally I did like the video. It was celebrating sexism in metal and went so far as to cast it in a jokey, juvenile light. No women were murdered, they were just prancing around in cute getups while the camera zoomed in to get body shots.

As for the track selection, this is easily one of my favorite pieces of Fortress. Kicks the hell out of “The Dissentience,” at least in terms of listenability.

  12. Conor says:

Also, why the fuck would I sign up with MetalInjection just to comment? I was liking what I read there, too. Damn.

You win again, MetalSucks! *shakes fist*

  13. douche, bag says:

stupid it sounds like shitty fucking 80s bullshit fucking bullshit soo bad the vocals blooow.. the sweeps are lammme its like.. trivium.

  14. Nathanthehero says:

Protests videos are pretty damn cheap and not really worth while. Sequoia throne is there worst video yet, and palms read was of the poorest quality. The only good videos they have are off kezia, the divine suicide of k, blindfolds aside and heretics and killers. It seems that almost all metal videos are crap. They’re a great band, but unfortunately their videos are tres lame.

  15. Niaboc says:

Everyone needs to chill out. What would everyone be expecting from a southern ontarian band who snagged the number one album in Canada? An epic video! The palms read video is brilliant. It’s basically saying “we’re busy as fuck touring our asses off, thinking about how we’re gonna top fortress, so here’s a half assed video to keep you guys busy”. These guys make great music and obviously aren’t concerend about selling out in the media department. They worked their asses of for the kezia videos to get the publicity that the needed. Now, just let them focus on touring and giving us another kick ass album.
