BUT WE STILL LOVE ARSIS AND WANT TO HAVE JIM MALONE’S BABY

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 at 5:34pm by Vince Neilstein

arsis - jim maloneArsis vocalist/guitarist/everything-guy Jim Malone has revealed the two new members of the group; drummer David Kinkade (replacing Shawn Priest who replaced Darren Cesca who replaced Mike Van Dyne) and bassist Nick Cordle, who replaced founding (I think) [Actually, he wasn't. Sorry. -Ed.] member Noah Martin.

In a press release, new drummer David Kinkade was quoted* as saying:

“I am very excited to join the ranks of Arsis, where I look forward to either quitting or being fired in a short amount of time. Though I already know what the future brings, I’ll live it up for now and can’t wait to rock out on Arsis’ first-ever European tour!”

New bassist Nick Cordle also shared his thoughts*:

“Arsis have been a favorite band of mine for many years now and to be able to play a temporary role in its future until I quit or am dismissed is quite excellent. I also look forward to having my bass inaudibly low in the mix. I’m drawing a huge amount of energy from the atmosphere in the band both musically and personally, so it’ll really be a bummer when I’m inevitably no longer in the band.”

When asked to comment, all Jim Malone had to say* was this: “David and Nick will do just fine until the next cats come along. I’m kind of going for a modern-day Guns N’ Roses-type lineup, you know?”

*Not really.

I’m sure Arsis will kick ass regardless. I don’t know shit about the two new guys, but sonically, they can do no wrong in my opinion.

  2. dthrasher says:

they had a bass player? as long as they can play what jim writes it doesn’t really matter who is doing it.

  3. Dave says:

Long as the drummer isn’t as fucking obnoxious as the last one. That guy was way too high in the mix on the last cd, to the point where all his stupid fucking drum fills were actually murdering any semblance of a song on there.

“I also look forward to having my bass inaudibly low in the mix.”

    Very well played sir.

  4. Dan says:

    shit that was funny :-)

It really doesnt matter who is in the band. Its all Jim.

Isnt that drummer also in Malevolent Creation and Borknagar? I just wikipedia’d him and low and behold:
David Kinkade is a metal drummer who is notable for touring once with the death metal band Malevolent Creation. He has also drummed for other bands such as Council of the Fallen, Divine Empire, D.O.T.A.C., and Insatanity. During October 2008, Norwegian band Borknagar announced David Kinkade had replaced Asgeir Mickelson as drummer. Kinkade’s first appearance with Borknagar will be on the next Borknagar studio album, which is due for release in 2009.

Dang, who does he drum for, really?
Looks like your quote is almost on the money!

    Liabel.

  7. Conor says:

@Crap: I think you mean “libel” and it generally doesn’t apply to celebrities (which would mean it does apply to James? =P).

Quotes were great, but what else can you expect from a one-man show like Arsis? Personally I was really, really disappointed after Van Dyne left, and I can only assume it was because of control issues with James. Cesca’s parts on Nightmare were utterly uninspired and rather inconsistent with Arsis’s catalog.

Keep on shredding, James, and I’ll keep coughing up, but bring Mike back, would you?

  8. dthrasher says:

Just wanted to point out that Ryan, the other guitar actually wrote like 4 of the songs on the new album as well.

  9. I have to agree with Dave. Drums are way too high on We Are The Nightmare and as everyone points out, needs more bass, but I still dig it and listen to it far less than I should.

  10. Reaper-X says:

I don’t think I could ever be a member of Arsis, for the simple fact that It sort of comes off like a job. I mean, when touring and merch is how you eat, it can be a job, but you know, to some extent. This is like “I hire some guys, I fire some guys, we record/release/tour, we repeat.

  11. bshred says:

ryan actually wrote the best songs on the new album imo
