WHITECHAPEL’S “POSSESSION” – LIKE WARRANT’S VIDEO FOR “HEAVEN,” ONLY NOT REALLY AT ALL

Thursday, November 20th, 2008 at 4:07pm by Axl Rosenberg

The latest Whitechapel video, “Possession,” was filmed in front of a real, live, paying audience at Worcester Mass’s legendary Palladium, and man oh man, does it make me wanna see these dudes live. Those kids look like they’re going nucking futs, don’t they? So much fun. Why did I ever stop going into pits, anyways?

The clip was directed by David Brodsky (who also did Whitechapel’s last video, “This is Exile”), who actually killed the director of Warrant’s “Heaven” video… with his mind! Sick.

Whitechapel’s This is Exile is out now on Metal Blade.

Actually I saw these dudes live the other week and they were crap.

Their vocalist kept on telling the crowd that they were shit because they werent starting big enough pits for his liking and he was just generally getting all ratty and unprofessional.

The music itself was pretty tight, but considering its nothing new anyway I wouldnt bother seeing them again purely on the basis that their vocalist is a douchebag.

  2. fuckingoodstuff says:

Hadn’t heard these guys till five minutes ago and I gotta say, I like it. I think I saw a small animal die from the heaviness in the background. Lot’s of changes, good riffs, good drumming, singer sounds like he’s barfing, what’s not to like.

  3. price says:

Saw ‘em at Irving October 30th, opening for Acacia Strain et al. Pretty good, although they only got to play for 25 minutes or so. They are very tight live though, inducing some pretty brutal pits that I enjoy watching from a distance.

  4. Tawxik says:

…Phil is not a fucking douche, dude.
He is, however, one wickedly sick individual. =]
Thus, Whitechapel is an incredibly mind-boggling band live.
They’re worth the price of admission and than some.

  5. dthrasher says:

has anyone else noticed the incredible correlation between ear plugs (of the ear stretching variety) and bad music?

  6. Nate says:

OH F*CK I THINK THEIR GUITARIST IS WEARING AN ARSIS SHIRT! Wow that’s so awesome. I must see them now!!

AND LOL at 1:50 that guy surfing up in the guard’s face…

  7. I’ve heard from two different people that they suck live. Perhaps they have their good days every once in awhile. This Is Exile is still a pretty cool album though.

  8. Your Mom says:

    deathcore is bullshit

  9. Malacoda says:

Deathcore is bullshit is too general. Some deathcore is fantastic (All Shall Perish) and some (Winds of Plague, JFAC) sucks. These guys are right in the middle. Wow, that singer got raped by the crowd.

  10. sandwiches says:

^^^^^^^^^ video, song, and band are gayyyy

  11. TheZackistNation says:

this band rules. one of, if not THE, best “deathcore” act around (though some haters would say thats an oxymoron).

  12. Kevin says:

I’ve seen em 3 times. They had a little weaker set on the tour with Unearth but the two times O’ve seen em headline it was fucking amazing.

  13. GREGDOUT says:

i fuckin love this song, the bridge section is pretty sick. not to mention the outro that just makes you want to start the song over.

Again with the genre bashing.. pathetic

  14. Gordon Bombay says:

I like Whitechapel and saw them live in L.A., but most of their fans are just straight billed baseball cap wearing wiggers who need to be destroyed. At the show there was no pit, just two 6′5 fat fucking asshole wiggers and 10 other faggots swinging their arms and hardcore dancing. Also, they have three guitarists, which is dumb because the third guitarists is useless and contributes nothing.

  15. crapmcpoopin says:

Wow here’s news… Metalsucks is posting another shitty video from David Brodsky. STOP PROMOTING THIS FUCK. HIS VIDEOS ARE GARBAGE.

  16. Harry Ballsagna says:

I second Mr McPoopin’, yet again, we implore you, put an end to the hyping of this hack and save us from his visually under-stimulating mediocrity…

  17. hackman says:

hahaha i saw those stupid fucks, in the pit and on the stage, in LA too, coach bombay. what happened to good old fashioned beating the fuck out of each other. bring it on LoG…

  18. Mr_izan says:

impressive enough. more thumbs up than down. who cares if the singer’s a douche, so am I! ’nuff said.

  19. Mr_izan says:

to be fair, i question the integrity of a band where the singer wears one of those faggoty “atticus” shirts… that’s what i get for being open-minded to “core” bands tho.

  20. RayRay says:

You are all turds who keep bashing deathcore. Its music and if you dont like it keep your fucking mouths shut. Obviously Axl thought the video was cool so he posted it. This is Exile is a fucking sick album worth repeated listens regardless of the breakdowns or whatever the fuck else people have a problem with. I do agree that the fucking wiggers need to be beat up though. This song rules and makes me want to crush all the idiots who post dumb comments on this website.

  21. jerm says:

their vocalist can’t pull off any of their songs live. i saw them twice in one week and was infinately dissapointed. nobody in this band is the least bit impressive.

  22. CrapMcPoopin says:

Ray Ray the video is not cool. Don’t trust half the people who run this site, because frankly they wouldn’t know what a GOOD video was if it smacked them in the fucking face. Brodsky videos all have hyper editing, over use of filters, terrible lighting, and half the fucking bands in them are just flash in the pans. Just by the way you wrote your post I can tell my comment will fall on deaf ears, but seriously… this video is terrible. David Brodsky and anyone who likes his videos are certifiable morons.

  23. DeafMetal says:

Here’s the progression of music that people hate because it’s cool and popular to hate them. First we had rap-metal/nu-metal, then metalcore, and now deathcore. People are sheep when it comes to music and hating. Worse than the Hot Topic and mallcore trends I swear. People who once hated metalcore now like it and listen to it but now they hate deathcore.

  24. Grodon Bombay says:

Mallcore? what the fuck is that

  25. CrapMcPoopin says:

A stupid buzzword “metal” elitists made up to lump all stuff they don’t like into one category. They usually include anything that is trendy or that the youngins like. However, I see far more middle aged and older people at the mall, so I’m assuming we’re no also lumping early rock ‘n’ roll, classic rock, blues, ragtime, jazz, and classic metal into the category as well. Damn those 60 somethings and their poodle skirts hanging out at the malt shops, or those 40 year olds and their tie dye and bell bottoms…. I can never get to the Orange Julius with all those mallcorers around.

  26. Nes says:

is it just me or is that video a sausage fest?

  27. HughDoVoodoo says:

Saw them play on the Altamont Never Say Die! Tour in London, and they were intense.

Not sure why people seem down on the video – would any of the people slagging it off care to nominate a video that they think is good?

  28. Paxl Rose says:

It would be more like the “Heaven” video if they all wore white and showed flashbacks of the guys on tour. But like Warrant, Whitechapel does that annoying where they all sync when they headbang.

We called Warrant posers in the ’80s. Whitechapel are definitely today’s posers.

  29. boardupthehouse says:

They’re local in my region. I pass up seeing them all the time. I actually pass up shows with decent bands if they are there. It’s not worth it at all.

  30. To hell with all you Deathcore haters.
