SLIPKNOT TO TOUR WITH… COHEED & CAMBRIA?!?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 at 12:57pm by

Slipknot have announced a North American tour with Coheed & Cambria and Trivium. Like a lot of people, I was initially confused by this news – I mean, even taking into account that plenty of metalheads dig C&C, what the crap are they gonna do on a tour with Roadrunner’s elite? Can you really mosh to “Welcome Home?”

But then I thought about it some more, and ya know what? These bands have more in common than it might initially appear. Check it out:

  • Both have a taste for the theatrical
  • Both have pretty acoustic sing-along ballads in their repetoire
  • Both have fans that would die for them and detractors that would like to see them die
  • Both have singers with funny hair
  • Both appeal to comic book/sci-fi/horror culture (otherwise known as “nerds”)
  • Both are pretentious
  • No one knows exactly what the fuck either band is talking about

So, there you have it. This tour suddenly doesn’t seem so odd.

FInally some Coheed news on metalsucks although it is associated with slipknot its still a first step. Trivium and Coheed can make my day.

  • John

If nothing else, this was announced today, and every single person everywhere already knows that the tour is happening.

  • http://hookssobig.blogspot.com Wayne

Ugh, this is a horrible, horrible bill. Slipknot is a lot of fun live, but I can’t stand the other two.

  • Carter

Ugh. I’d rather go to fucking rod stewart

  • FUCK

Love Slipknot and trivium but Coheed?!?!?!?! There’s a whole different style there!!! That’ll be interesting….

  • billybob

Coheed are gonna get chewed up and spit out by the Slipknot fans lol Poor Coheed

  • Mr_izan

yeah, they were gonna tour with bon jovi, but he backed out saying he “doen’t wanna play with those pussies” (coheed)
    all false, but funny nonetheless.

  • iolanach

Wow! Three shitty bands, in one show?!?!? I’m there!

  • b-rad

the first time i saw Coheed & Cambria was at Hellfest which featured Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Killswtich Engage and the Dillinger Escape Plan and was headlined by In Flames. i really don’t think they will really be out of their element that much at all. I think it’s a pretty good idea. [except for the fact that those fucking crotch goblins, Trivium have to play on every tour i want to see over the past 2 years.]

  • PissChrist

Co&Ca= The only talented band on the bill.

  • Nigel McCloud

    What’s wrong with Rod Stewart?

And to be honest, it does not seemed far fetched at all like the article said.

  • ferocious_fetus

both have awesome drummers stuck in shitty bands.
    Pennie > Jordison though…without a doubt.

  • Nickweiser

Slipknot will be awesome as always. should be interesting to see how Coheed and Cambria fit on here, same w/ even Trivium. I wonder if it will only be these 3 or will there be a 4th?

  • Johnny Death

Axl, when does liking comic books mean i’m a nerd? Are you trying to pick on me like the jocks did to you in high school? You artsy-fartsy (fag). (Sorry, i couldn’t help myself)

When i saw Slipknot in 2001 i’d have to guess that the crowd was close to 40% women. I’m sure there is an appeal for much of slipknot’s fans to C&C. They are both played on the same modern rock station where i live.

  • Anthony

As a big Slipknot fan, and a resident of Canada, i’m glad that this tour isn’t coming to Canada because:

    1. We will eventually get a tour across Canada similar to Vol. 3, since All Hope is Gone has sold so well up here
    2. We get different, hopefully better support bands.
    3. I don’t have to worry about seeing Slipknot in the freezing Cold winter, and can see them in Spring at the very earliest.

  • Sofa King

I wonder if Trivium will get any ideas from touring with Slipknot and finally get those Metallica costumes they must really want?

  • CrapMcPoopin

cough cough Judgemental pricks cough cough

Thanks for another blog of wisdom Axl.

  • Johnny Death

One thing i do keep wondering. Does Corey Beaulieu (of Trivium) have some sort of grudge against is home state or what? They have never played in Maine as far as i can tell and i know many people that would like to see them.

  • Eric

Coheed have toured with some strange bands before. I saw them live with Avenged Sevenfold once, and I know that they’ve toured with Dillinger Escape Plan multiple times. I know there are a lot of people out there, myself included, with diverse taste in music, so I suspect that “weird” billings like this will become more commonplace.

  • ClosetMetalHead

Both Trivium and Slipknot need to run around on stage to keep the audience from realizing that they are not talented musicians. As far as Coheed and Cambria, I have no input.

  • RandyxJames

    CO&CA own.

In other news, Paganfest USA 2009 lineup was revealed!

Dude… That’s awesome. I’m sorry but, Coheed is a great band. And, I’ve been a fan of them almost as long as I’ve been a fan of Slipknot. Plus, they’re coming their coming to Greenvile? (where I live) This is AWESOME!!!

  • The Mighty Fucking Quinn

My issues are that the lineup is weak.I’m not a fan of Coheed, but some of their tunes are alright. But on a tour like this, I do believe a lot of the Slipknot diehards are going to chew them up.My beef is that the last time I saw Slipknot, they we’re headlining with the be all end all of support – Lamb of God AND Shadows Fall. That’s one of the best shows I’ve ever been to, and an awesome show for an arena gig.Even after that, I had tickets to their Halloween show at Nokia Theater before Clown’s dad passed and they canceled, but they had Unearth and As I Lay Dying, who now I’m bored to tears with, but in 2005 that was a fucking decent lineup. And my biggest beef – THEY’RE BRINGING THIS MEDIOCRE LINEUP TO THE FUCKING GARDEN!Cliche as it sounds, there is something special about MSG and for a band I grew up on to play there is a huge deal to me, but Trivium and Coheed?I want to not go so desperately, but they have been playing Prosthetics and I’ve been waiting 8 years to see them perform that song live.I’m completely torn on this one.All I can do is pray I find way to score free tickets, because I’m broke and really not turned on by the idea of shelling out cash for this one.

  • erock

No Bay Area dates? Fuck Sacramento . . .

  • Jordan Tarrant

this is the best fucking line up ive have ever seen all three of my favorite bands AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH XD

  • Joe

    Nothing in Washington? Fuck

  • http://www.myspace.com/bminekime enemyofgod72

I think any tour that gets 3 or more bands together of different genres is pretty cool. Too many tours put together bands that all sound similar to each other. Most metalheads I know like a wide variety so while I don’t like C&C or Trivium, it’s good to give the fans a chance to become fans of a band they may not listen to otherwise.

  • Kye

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTT

    *splooge*

  • http://hotmail j-rock

Going with enemyofgod on this one variety makes for the best shows.

  • Rob

I love Coheed and Cambria but am not such a big fan of Slipknot and I couldn’t tell Trivium from Panic! At The Disco (meaning I have never heard either band). I thought this tour sounded horrible at first, but variety definitely is going to be a big draw here. I hate going to death metal shows where it’s 5 fucking bands that all sound exactly the goddamn same. “Oh wow! More guttural vocals and blast beats? For another two hours? How could I be so lucky?” At least you will have three different styles.

But still, I wouldn’t shill out for this because I don’t know anything about Trivium and Slipknot are completely underwhelming live (I have seen them three times. It’s bad when Mudvayne upstages you).

  • Nick

    That band is still around?

  • hater

if you think this news was shocking, i’m sure they’ll have a Slipknot/Britney Spears concert soon. With opening act with Jewel.

  • Kevin

I agree that this is a mismatch, but for the opposite reasons given in the original post. Trivium is twice the band Slipknot is (in terms of talent, not members…), and they’re still godawful. Coheed’s studio recordings are not my cup of tea, but their live show is awesome.

  • http://www.mmacomments.com ERIC

    the yellow brick rrooooooaaad

  • JO

Coheed Slipknot? I’ll be there, NYC!. Wish it Coheed were the headliners.

  • BoZo

you know what, fuck coheed and cambria. im goin to this concert. the singer is nothing but a cock sucking whiney ass girl with a fro. anyone who i see that comes in wearing a coheed and cambria tshirt is going to get slaughtered by all the slipknot fans. and im going to be one of them. i mine as well start listening to fagget ass avenged sevenfold. slipknot is a band that can and will metal slap all that fucking makeup off thier faces. COHEED SUCKS BIG HAIRY OGRE BALLS!!! (covered in thier own blood) and trivium, to all you trivium haters, has gotten thier act together..half way.. i admit that the crusade wasnt as good as ascendancy or ember to enferno but, thier getting better. if it wasnt for two really good bands ruling out a really sucky band, may i remind you, Fucking Sucky band, i would be wasting my money going here. anyone who is going to the SLIPKNOT and TRIVIUM show w/ very faggety guests, c&c, in auburn hills, MI at the palace, if you come in with a shirt like that, ill be there.. waiting.

  • BoZo

oh i dont know if i forgot to say that uhh, coheed sucks. ALOT.

  • ShredTillDeath

    Hahahhaha too bad slipknot sucks.

    • FUCKyouguys

Slipknot is awesome you def dickheads
you cant hear what corey taylor is saying because YOU DONT FUCKING LISTEN!
Slipknot is a very talented band if you are a matal head THAT LISTENS.

  • Rob

BoZo, hate to break it to you, brohan, but Slipknot wears more makeup than Coheed and Cambria ever would. Also, glad to hear you fuck up people based on what bands they like. How hardcore. Like the hardliners who beat up people with beers at shows. What a tough son of a bitch.

Regardless of whether a band “sucks” or not, I have to reiterate, at least you aren’t hearing three bands who sound exactly the fucking same for 2 hours. At least Slipknot had the balls to bring something they liked on tour, rather than something they thought their fans would like (i.e. Mudvayne, American Head Charge, and whatever other shitty bands they bring out with them but claim they have no choice over.)

P.S. BoZo I doubt anyone is going to get “slaughtered” by slipknot fans for wearing coheed t-shirts, considering that both sets of fans(a) average under 16 years old, (b) weigh 200 pounds, and (c) just getting through security is likely to have them both winded for the duration of the evening.

Also, BoZo strikes me as being a Juggalo. In which case, he might want to check out http://www.iqlowerthanmy5yearoldsister‘sshoesize.net to leave his half baked bullshit.

  • P.J. Rewey

I’m glad other peole are dissapointed about this, i thought i was the only one….serisously….what the hell. I’m going though, St.Paul MN is the first stop and i’ll be there beating the fuck out of “Heed Heads” as THEY call them not as I call them. trivium…i can handle but if they’re gonna tour with labelmates….why not DevilDriver?!?

  • hello

It’s always about the money. Both C&C and Slipknot have been playing the shitty upscale bar tours for the previous year and wanted to do stadiums instead. Though their genres are dissimilar, the demographics for their fans are not. Hence, most of their shows are starting at 7pm.

  • Evan

God forbid a talented band actually shares the bill with a gimmick band. The members of Coheed and Cambria are individually more talented than all 49,415 members of slipknot, and the rip-off kings Trivium put together. Although Coheed had to dumb down some of their songs for the “metal” fans (neither slipknot or Trivium are real metal by the way), they still managed to kick major ass. I find it hilarious how close minded some of the people on here are. At least a few of you seem to be sensible. As much as I hate slipknot (they are my #2 most hated band), I wouldn’t go around attacking people just because they are a fan of them.

  • Johnny

all bands are too different to compare

    i like them all :P
