PAGANFEST 2K9!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 at 10:33am by Vince Neilstein

I don’t know about you kids, but the inaugural run of Paganfest USA was the most fun I had at a show all year in 2008. Turisas, Ensiferum, Eluveitie and Tyr absolutely killed it, and the entire room was pumping their fists in the air to every song. And, oh yeah, we drank copious amounts of booze. My only regret: I didn’t wear a Viking costume.

Fortunately for me and my Viking gear, Paganfest USA will live on in 2009! Dates have yet to be announced, but the 2k9 incarnation will include Primordial, Eluveitie, Moonsorrow and Blackguard. See you there!

Vince, I say we show up with viking helmets!

  2. dthrasher says:

Eluveitie must have a really good booking agent because that band fucking sucks and yet they end up on tons of big tours.

  3. Mark says:

i was so confused when i saw blackguard, but holy shit its actually profugus mortis who changed their name and are the best band on this bill.

It’s good to see Eluveitie move up in the band order rather than being an opener. They really should be headlining this tour. Where is Suidakra?

  5. Mark says:

^ my guess would be pagan knights.

  6. RandyxJames says:

Primordial and Moonsorrow on the same billing, Odin have you been reading my diary. Plus, Týr headlining Pagan Knights in March. I cannot wait for next year.

For those who are thinking about wearing a viking helmet to a show, it ain’t that great, unless your at the bar or balcony. I wore mine to Amon Amarth last year, and it tends to get annoying when everybody is storming to the front or if you try to headbang, so I had to put it on the stage. Much respect to those who come in full blown costumes, kilts, and bearskins.

I wonder if they’ll cancel their Phx stop on the day of the show this time around. Pfft, Pagans.

  8. Symphazium says:

Profugus Mortis changed their name for Blackguard… bad bad idea, they had such a great reputation, i mean…. the name won’t change it, but here in quebec, mostly all the metalheads know who profugus mortis are.

They changed their name because they thought that ” profugus mortis” was great only for the older style, which was folk metal, with violon. Since there are no more violon in this band and it is more epic folk ( according to Kim Gosselin, lead guitar), they needed to change their name.

But they have just signed with Nuclear Blast. AMAZING, they’re still my favorite band

I pray to Odin they go to a certain city I am from that gets overlooked every fucking awesome tour.

    @ Synphazium
According to Paul it was over legal issues with Nuclear Blast. either way, weither theyre Blackguard or Profugus Mortis all i care about is the music, which is kick ass, im just glad i grabbed myself 3 mugs that say profugus mortis on them as well as the CD.

  11. Symphazium says:

    @ Mark

I totally approve with you, it’s just the fact that they played in Drummondville ( Quebec, my hometown) at the beginning of november and usually they tell things they’re not supposed to say to people ( we knew that night that they had been signed to nuclear blast) but they didn’t people about the name changing thing.

They will still remain my favorite band, keeping on wearing proudly my Profugus Mortis merch and drinking in my beer mug that came with ” Another Round”

The ONLY thing that really bugs me is that…. they probably won’t do shows in small city anymore.

  12. Mark says:

well i live in Ontario so ive only seen them play toronto and hamilton and im going to miss seeing them in small venues with like 50 people, thats for sure, but they definately deserve this and i hope they do very well.

  13. mike says:
