HEAVEN & HELL: ONE REUNION ALBUM I THINK YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET EXCITED ABOUT

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 9:53am by Axl Rosenberg

I know I’ve spoken out in the past – fuck, yesterday, even – against bands that have recently reunited recording new albums. But in the case of Heaven & Hell - né “Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio and without fear of being sued by Sharon Osbourne” – I think it’s safe to be optimistic.

And why, pray tell, do I have faith that new Heaven & Hell record could actually rule? Easy: the three songs they did for last year’s greatest hits collection, “The Devil Cried,” “Shadow of the Wind,” and “Ear in the Wall” all kicked major, major ass. In fact, they were so good that it made me wonder why so many other aging metal bands have such a hard time making good material (I’m not naming names. Argue amongst yourselves who I’m talking about. Okay, it’s Ozzy. But there’s others, too. Like Metallica. I’m stopping! I’m stopping!)

Here’s “Shadow of the Wind,” lest you doubt me:

I don’t know why you’re in Death Magnetic Denial, Axl. What a great album.

  2. TJ says:

Could not agree more. A new H&H record will be awesome. Those three songs they released last year sounded awesome, chock full of some sick Iommi riffs and Dio wailing.

A full album of that? Yes please.

    Fuck yes!

    Boring video, but good song.

I hate MTV, I can’t just watch the video, they have to slap their stupid ads all over the damn thing. So annoying.

  6. Damotello says:

I really hope they make an album, it’s amazing how Iommi can still crank out such great riffs after nearly 40(!) years.

  7. dthrasher says:

Dio has ruled in pretty much anything he has ever done so this is no surprise.

  8. gnarlk says:

as long as they can stick it to the she beast that is sharon and the diminishing quality of ozzy related product over the past 20 years, record away…

  9. Iron Mayden says:

    Sharon Osborn is a Succubus.

so are you guys just hating on metallica because they wont give you free shit? i notice you guys constantly suck every last drop of semen from bands on metal blade prosthetic and roadrunner…which is funny because those are 3 of your biggest sources of advertising too….funny how that works

This is sort of off topic, but in most of the interviews I’ve seen with Dio, he always knocks on Gene Simmons for being conceited/ arrogant/ self proclaimed God, which I’m not disputing. But is there something I missed that happened between them?

  12. @ Rohit: I’m just speculating, but Dio could be pissed that Simmons keeps trying to take credit for creating the devil horns, which most people acknowledge was actually Dio’s created.

  13. bob says:

Dio did’nt create the devils horns. Gene did them on the love gun cover. But he might have stolen the idea from Blackie Lawless at a “Sister” show (or whatever that band was called)
I read a long interesting article on it a while ago

  14. ezra says:

Dio got the devil horns from his grandmother, so presumably, he had ‘em first.
Besides, anyone with half a brain has some sorta problem with Gene.
Saw H H (not Y&T) about a year agao, and they kicked so much ass, blew alice cooper and Queensryche off the stage (My Queensryche loving buddy disagreed, but you know how those folks are) Dio sounds better than ever, and has the best mic-stand twirling abilities ever! Iommi and especially Geezer also sounded better than ever, I could do without Vinnie’s drum solo though.
