I’d like to see Slipknot win just because I like them more than any other band on here, but i’ll put my money on Metallica or Judas Priest, with it probably going to Metallica since “Death Magnetic” is nominated for Best Rock Album as well, and Nostradamus isn’t.

Anyone who gives a gazillion trophies to fucktards like Brittany Spears and her ilk isn’t fit to lick dog shit off Al Jourgenson’s boots. I remember being proud when the Grammys finally added a metal category then they proved themselves the retarded dipshits they are by giving the first award to Jethro Tull. When they add a death metal category and have Deicide play live maybe they’ll have redeemed themselves but since I doubt Hell will be freezing over any time soon that probably won’t happen in my lifetime. For a metal band winning a grammy probably isn’t the best thing that can happen in your career, leave it for untalented hacks that clog the airwaves. Metal doesn’t need the Grammys. Fuck the Grammys!

@ Tyler: I know their new stuff is not as Metallica bent, but I still can’t get past the fact that these guys are so damn arrogant.I’ve decided to not be a dick and actually try to go on merit for them, but right now I see it like this – one day, they may redeem themselves in my eyes, but the bad taste in my mouth is still lingering.Besides, you need a year where none of the huge bands lay down anything new.Maybe the awards for 2010 will have a younger vibe like a year or two ago when Shadows Fall and Mastodon were both nominated.Slayer has new shit out in 09 and Metallica will surely release another single, so I say don’t look for anyone “new” to get a win until at least Feb 2011.

I doubt they’ll give a grammy to any obscure artist who would actually deserve a grammy this year, like bottle doom lazy band, but Max Cavelara put out two fantastic albums this year: Soulfly’s latest and the Cavelara Conspiracy. he has sold millions of albums. he should get a grammy nod.

I’m guessing that a lot of metal labels don’t bother sending in their albums for Grammy consideration. You gotta be submitted to be considered for a nomination. Yer average indie metal label like Southern Lord, Hydra Head or Willowtip prolly doesn’t give enough of a shit to waste its time.

Sammy, Lil Wayne got 8 Grammy nominations. Your first point is invalid.

It has very little to do with talent, and about 99% of it is name recognition and album sales.

Actually, it has nothing to do with talent. It’s just that, every once in a while, the millions of people that listen to shitty music occasionally get stuck on something that’s actually good, and that really good thing becomes popular.

I wouldn’t call the Grammys “irrelevant”, but I would say they really don’t reward anything of value. I love Priest. I have since I was a teen in the early ’80s, but Nostradamus is truly dreadful – the song, the album, the concept.

This list sucks balls.Would it be nice to see Priest win a grammy?Yes.But don’t be riffucktardulous.Metallica will win.I don’t care at all about this list, but I’m interested that there is such a list where the bands aren’t all beaten out because of one monster.The big three in there are all “forget the other nominee” types.But you know how people are.I’d tell Lars and Co. to start making room on the mantle or another shiny phonograph.

At least Priests other song Visions was nominated as well. Out of the five I’d go for Slipknot too, simply because that Metallica song fuckin blows and Nostradamus is an annoyingly repetitive song. Each time I listen I start to laugh at the number of times he actual says Nostradamus.
