    the best

  • Tom

just a note to those who arent too savy on their zeppelin, John Bonham does NOT use a double bass pedal….yeah so thats all his right foot.

  • Cisco

I don’t like anything by Led Zeppelin whatsoever, and I think I have a right to live.

  • Mr. Fister

    No, you don’t.

  • Pat

If you like this check out the full Led Zeppelin self-titled DVD that this performance is on. It has some killer classic Zeppelin concerts.

    One of a kind.

  • Crack Hitler

Greatest drummer who ever lived. Anybody who says Moon>Bonham is just plain wrong. Rewrote the book. Genius. Etc. etc. etc.

    Seriously.

  • Cisco

    Yes, I do.

  • DannE

Buddy Rich to John Bonham and everybody else has just been trying to improve on these god-like standards. No double bass and no smooth chain driven pedals.

  • Strawberry Zeppelin

Bonzo for life! Thanks for posting this. Never forget John Henry Bonham and all he did.

That was excellent drumming…But such poor sound quality.

I’d like for this extended ‘drum-solo’ thingy to be re-recorded/performed – TODAY – in a recording studio, where the volume levels would be more audible and better-micing and equalization would give a fuller, deeper, richer sound – more characteristic of drum-soloists and more fitting for the kind of music he made.

As for John Bonham himself, I like his drumming, and he definitely was an inspiration to rhythmic-drummers (although this was mostly solo-drumming).

But in my mind the best drummer on the planet has to be Danny Carey (Don’t believe me? Listen to Tool’s record “La-Te-Ra-Lus” particularly the songs ‘The Grudge’, ‘Schism’, ‘Ticks and Leeches’ and ‘Reflection’). A close second would be Nicholas Barker (former Cradle of filth/Dimmu Borgir) because when I actually listened carefully, I noticed that he’s quite clinical and precise with each stroke (not a ‘sloppy’ drummer, in other words).

Also TIED in second place with Nic’ Bark’ would be Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy.

    ***

Bonham is definitely on that list somewhere of like top 30 or so best drummers, but I think he inspired drummers better than himself (if that makes sense).

So what do y’all think? (Please listen to both Dan’ and Nic’ before you reply).

PS. I’m a Zeppelin fan – so I’m not ‘hating’ the Led-sters – just in case any old-timers read this and think I’m saying LZ sucks.

  • uhh

It’s amazing, what people are impressed by. It sounds like someone threw the drum set down a never ending flight of stairs. Jesus, this is horrible. Bring on the flaming, Zeppelin fan boys.
