I think it’s funny that he mentions that “a good seventy percent of modern metal is total bullshit…”, When Darkest Hour is actually a part of that percentage.

And hibernum is right, where the fuck is the true classic albums by Entombed?? I’d have thought that he would mention The Left Hand Path, Clandestine and Wolverine Blues, the truely underated and masterful albums by Entombed!

Still, it is good to see someone making some more noise about Entombed
props to Mike Schleibaum.

Why diss Jaxx?? You’re pissing and moaning about how metal isn’t supported in the States and then turn around and slam a club that’s totally deidcated to metal. Yeah, it’s not the greatest club in the world, but it’s far from the worst. But you’re right about one thing, if it wasn’t for Jaxx, there would be no place for metal in the DC area.

BTW, good job on throwing some love Entombed’s way. They get overlooked far too often.

Thats a great article. And it saddens me to say I have only heard of Entombed a few times, but I will surely change that.

i seldom comment and never do unless i have something specific to say.. but here i was motivated by the quality of this article to tell whoever to get mike to be a regular contributor. a simple but enjoyable column.
you should realise for every one person that bothers to comment on the quality of an article there are probably one hundred who agree, but never leave comments to that effect. mike should be a regular. make it happen.

oh i hear ya. if i had a dime for everytime i saw a well established band play to a small crowd… but hey, chalk it up to the fact that most of entombed’s original US fanbase probably stopped listening to death metal in 1994.

yeah its upsetting, its kinda sad to see a band like entombed (or dismember, or grave, or unleashed, or god dethroned, or the crown etc…) play to small audiences. but its nowhere near as bad as watching fucking kreator (who influenced all those bands i just mentioned) play to half the amount (yeah, half- if im generous) of people you say were at that jaxx show.

I’ve been a fan since Left Hand Path came out and while that remains my favorite EntombeD record I think Uprising is up their with their best stuff. It blew me away when it first came out and I’ve continued to buy every record they’ve put out to this day with the exception of Same Difference. You also really hit the nail on the head about the production on these records. They are truly heavy. Not like this triggered drums, bass down in the mix over produced shit.

One more thing. I just saw Dismember here in Vancouver and a small little club called the Cobalt and I remember thinking they deserve to be playing a way bigger room. They’re also Swedish Death Metal legends but lots of dudes I know didn’t even know who they were. To busy listening to newer bands that wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for the likes of EntombeD, Dismember, At the Gates etc.

I didn’t read the whole review but these two entombed albums are amazing for sure.
Uprising has tha distinctive motorhead-filthy riffs and morning star was a kick
in the nuts.
Absolutely recommended albums.Entombed have changed styles through the ages
but they always were the best extreme metal band from Sweden.
And I claim to be a great At The Gates fan.

The only Entombed record I’ve ever hear/owned was Wovlerine Blues. That record brings back memories, as I’m pretty positive that it was the first death metal record I owned way back when. It was pulverizing and brutal, I guess I’ll have to check out Uprising and Morning Star now.
