LOST IN “THE GARDENERS OF EDEN”

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 at 11:00am by Axl Rosenberg

I’ve never really gotten into Cattle Decapitation, although I don’t know why. They seem like a fine band – I guess it just comes down to having too few hours in the day and the fact that a friend has never run up to me and said the words “Oh my God you HAVE to hear the new Cattle Decapitation album!” Even album art featuring a cow crapping a human just never got me excited enough to sit down and listen in earnest.

But I’m really digging “The Gardeners of Eden,” the new song currently streaming on the band’s MySpace page. In fact, I like it better and better as it goes along; the epic, trippy part towards the end is just kick-ass. So I guess I’ll have to check out the group’s latest, The Harvest Floor, when it comes on January 20 (here in North America – everywhere else gets it in the weeks following).

So? Any Cattle Decapitation fans in the house who wanna tell me what I’ve been missing?

Man you got a lot of catching up to do, buy the humanure album sit down and listen to the track buakkae tsumani its easily one of the best tracks they have ever done.

  2. I really didn’t get in to them until I heard the Body Farm song that came out before Gardeners. I bought Karma.Bloody.Karma (their last cd) about a month or so ago and I love it. Not really too much different from a lot of other death metal bands out there but still worth a good listen. For the record, the cow crapping a human was a cool cover but it never made me want to listen to them either, even though I had heard the name a hundred times. Good shit.

  3. BTW, you guys have it the album title as “Gardeners Of Eden” on your sidebar

They’re like death metal for hippies. They’re ok I guess. Nothing too spectacular, but not total shit either

  5. cornblood says:

great band. their last couple of records were produced by billy anderson.

Why are they wearing matching shirts?
Anyway, best part of Cattle Decapitation is that they’re all vegetarian/vegan. Just like Carcass.

Their first two weren’t good at all but To Serve Man and Humanure were really good and Karma Bloody Karma was amazing. This band seem to be getting better and better with each release can’t wait to hear the new one.

Yeah dude, the best part of Cattle Decapitation is for that reason exactly. What an ignorant thing to say, but it’s true, because the best part about them certainly isn’t their music.

Am I the only one not high? one sec…………………………………………..k now we are all high and I still think they are pretty different from the standard death metal. They are very tasty grindcore. Best song has to be 1000 times decapitation it reminds me of ” We built this come death” off mastodons first ep. Ridiculously psycho riffs. Def start with Karma Bloody Karma, its prolly most memorable. I actually saw them once for like 10 minutes in this shit hole called utah before they got so pissed from equipment malfunction they quite. said somethign to teh effect of “everytime we come to utah this happens”. It pissed me off but i can blame him for hating utah, i know i do.

well, they kind of started out more as a joke band than anything with members of The Locust in it, but then they started getting more serious with each release and finally weeded out the people who didn’t take it all that seriosuly. Hence the “getting better with each release” thing.

Saw them open for Vital Remains in 03′ and was blown away at their frontman’s crazy stage presence (like Jim Carey’s fire marshall bill) and insane vocals.

Over the years the band has become hit or miss in the live department (which probably has more to do with lineup/drummer changes than anything else), sucking balls at Cali Metal Fest one year…owning the stage at Summer Slaughter later on.

Either way, cool band…usually has awesome merch…and I still blast To Serve Man and Humanure when I want to smash something.

This is a new song? I thought it was from 20 years ago. Sorry, Axl.

This is one of those bands that I should totally love but the elements just don’t come together for me, like Lamb Of God or Meshuggah. I hear it and say to myself “I should be losing my shit right now, why don’t I think this is great?” Something about it just doesn’t add up. Cattle Decapitation, Lamb Of God, and Meshuggah are three bands that I will literally check out every few months just to see if they click with me yet, and so far, no.

But hey, since you’re talking about Cattle Decaptiation, the drummer for The Locust used to drum for them. And you know who fucking rules? The Locust. You guys never, EVER talk about them, but they are easily one of the most interesting grind bands out there. Check out the album “Safety Second, Body Last”, it’s fucking wild. Or their older stuff, which is grindier, like “Plague Soundscapes”. And man are they fucking tight as hell live.
