i agree with zackage .

i too have seen dh 6 times now and everytime was dissappointed by kris norris live performance.One day i finally met him after the show at the bar and i soon found out why.The guy was drunk as a skunk! haha!!

i thought the opening band An Aria was pretty fucking awesome. it sounded like some sort of mix of a mid 90’s screamo/post punk band meets hope conspiracy meets sunny day realestate meets the occasional circle pit. where the fuck have they been on the underground basement circuit in dc? i’m not sure how they were a good match on a bill as metal as that.
rose funeral was laughable indeed, it looked like it was forced and they were trying too hard. have you read some of their lyrics ? they talk about rape and shit as if that is cool.
skeleton witch was just completely bad fuckin ass! darkest hour is always good. i go crazy when the play eclipse off of mark of the judas.

Dude i’m going to have to disagree with you there. I’ve seen darkest hour 4 times, 3 times with Norris, and each time he’s been incredibly sloppy. And its not even a matter of him just not playing the notes well, he actually hit wrong note after wrong note. it was awful. Carrigan was a bit rough, but still hit the notes that needed to be hit. I’m excited for the new album.

Bloodjunkie….are you kidding me? Darkest hour is in no way metalcore by numbers. They have a unique sound that legitimately sets themselves apart from other bands and for the most part imo that came from Kris Norris’ rediculously well thought out and well put together lead guitar parts. Their music has serious texture and they’re one of the best melo-death bands in the world.

It should be interesting to see how carrigan’s addition changes their sound.

Except Darkest Hour have been around since 1995 releasing albums long before “core” became a so-called trend.

And 2003’s excellent melodic death Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation album got the seal of approval from the likes of Fredrik Nordström (producer), Tomas Lindberg (guest vocals), Anders Björler (guest guitars), Peter Wichers and Marcus Sunnesson.

Hey, I was at that show. It’s always great when DH play DC. The 9:30 Club takes down their barriers just for them, which makes it insane.

I have to say it though, “Lonestar” is sloppy with Norris’s leads, especially the SWEEPS. (I’m excited to hear what he’ll do on the next album though, with his own style.) Other than that, and the fact that I didn’t crowd surf/stage dive because I had a Skeletonwitch CD in my pocket, their set was excellent as always when they play DC.

Unfortunately, Skeletonwitch were the top band that night. They absolutely slay live. The Red Chord were right next to DH at second. An Aria, the local opening band, were tolerable, but I wasn’t into them. Rose Funeral were straight up laughable shit, and I did laugh at their down-tuned, no talent guitarists and their scene-haired vocalist try to be tough and menacing. *In an Aussie accent* “For this next song, I want you all to punch someone in the face,” I wanted some big metal dude to go up to the stage, pull the fucker down and knock him out, but it didn’t happen :-\
