TAKE A LEAK: NEW MASTODON SONG (!)

Monday, January 5th, 2009 at 12:29pm by Kip Wingerschmidt

Needless to say, we are all very psyched to ingest the rapidly approaching new Mastodon album, the self-proclaimed “more under the rock category” Crack the Skye, which will hit shelves in the next couple months (no official release date yet, but I’m told sometime in March). And if you’re interested in Mastodonian things such as track listings and awesome interviews with band members, let alone video interviews from our interweb bretheren, well…you know what to do.

But if you wanna hear a taste of the newly new newness, you can proceed to HERE (courtesy of “Metal Bastard’s MP3 Blahg” — read full post here). Apparantly, the track is called “Divinations”, it will indeed appear on the new album (according to the always-reliable blogosphere), and this recording is from this year’s Bonneroo Festival, where I hope Mastodon melted the faces of hordes of unsuspecting hippies…literally.

The music sounds pretty solid (and definitely incorporates the band’s usual flavor), but honestly the vocals seem a little hurting, almost as if whoever is singing (’cause it doesn’t really sound like the band’s vocalists, so I’m wondering slightly if this is one of those hippy-dippy jam-a-thons, with someone from Spearhead or The Disco Biscuits filling in with their hemp-lined pipes…) is straining to hit all those high notes.

That said, this is the almighty Mastodon, and therefore they are more than worthy of several allowances…any song newly added to the band’s live set must not have been played out very much thus far, so we may have to give our homies a license to grow into performing the new ditties. Lord knows they’ve earned it.

Happy Monday…now get back to work, fuckface — I’m not paying you to listen to music and beat off.

Thats definitely Brent singing for most of the song and Troy in some parts. The music sounds really good though.

  2. Owen says:

I dunno if it’s just the crappy bitrate, but the vocals sound really bad.

  3. Erin Carter says:

there was a video of this song from Bonnaroo along with videos of 2 other new ones they played there but the videos have all been removed and are next to impossible to find…and no its not an impromtu hippy style jam, its just themselves doing the vocals.

  4. K-milo says:

Liked it. But i wanna listen to the studio version. Anyway it did my day.

  5. Jason says:

That is definitely them singing as others have mentioned. Brent’s vox are easily recognizable. That being said, I ain’t digging it.

  6. pluto says:

That’s the worse fucking quality ever!!
I can make no judgment on the merits of the actual song, because I can’t fucking hear it well enough to understand it.

  7. DeaThrash says:

Been a fan of these guys since Remission, thought they could do no wrong… until now.

  8. “whoever is singing”?

It’s clearly Brent and Troy, you fucking amateur.

  9. Sean says:

    Wow! That sounds TERRIBLE!

  10. JTL says:

This sounds like a crappy recording of Mastodon song should. From what little of the music I can tease out of the background noise, it sounds like this should be a pretty good song.

  11. Kye says:

Apparently Metalsucks is run by cunts

  18. Michael Moore says:

    uhm, this isn’t news.

live versions of quintessence and ghost of karelia from bonnaroo have leaked.
they were pretty hard to find, warner bros. shut down lots of the youtube pages with the songs on them. but i think if you googled a torrent you should be fine.

  19. Nick says:

The song sounds ok but the quality sounds as if the demo tape has been pissed on digested ran over by a truck and raped by a gang of frustrated snow dogs. So I can’t really tell.

  20. Nick says:

Metalsucks IS run by cunts for moderating my comment which was not slightly offensive. That is, unless something about a tape being raped by a gang of frustrated snow dogs among other things isn’t funny. You make rape not funny. You get the cunt award.

  21. nick says:

or perhaps nothing is getting posted here?

  22. blah says:

thanks for getting me excited for nothing, this and the other two songs they played at bonnaroo were online almost as soon as their set finished.

  23. Wow, it took you cunts two whole days to man up and host the mp3 yourselves.

    Nice work, boys.

  24. Roman says:

What a fucking troll. ^^^ You should be glad they’re even linking to your worthless blog at all, you douche.

  25. David Snusgrop says:

  26. MisstressJanetta666 says:

Nigga Please?!! WTF? This guy is like those little bitches on blabbermouth who sit at he computer in thier momma’s living room making stupid comments and then refresh the page all day to see if they get a response. LOL — What a bitch!!!!

  27. David Snusgrop says:

Keep it down grandma, you’re scaring the children.

Take your pills and go lie down.

  28. Keith says:

Kind of proved her point, didn’t you, dumbass?

  29. Michiel says:

    This album will kick ass.

  30. Dave says:

I’ve heard them and it’s definitely mastodon’s singers…troy sounds good live but brent is always off vocally (like every show). Love the band, but he needs to work on his live vocals…i think they are trying some new things vocally with this album though…a little more bluesy vocals…i think getting his head cracked open by the soad guys helped him focus a little bit.
