Still, this is pretty fuckin’ hilarious/sad/shameful.

I think it’s funny how one of the related videos is titled “dragonforce can not play live” then show some studio clips and live clips then just knocks on them because of the shitty sound quality of the live recording, when they are in fact playing the solo as it is supposed to be.
He could have exploded and it wouldn’t have changed the quality of the song. Not exactly the most outstanding bass player of our time.
I saw Dragonforce with Chimaira and KSE, and I have to admit, Dragonforce were pretty damn phenomenal. In fact they made Chimaira look like Limp Bizkit in comparison.
They really can play all that crazy shit live, just as well as they on the album. Overall, they are one of the better performers I’ve ever seen.

The band is called STUDIOFORCE for a reason, without Pro – Tools, they are shit.
I’ve seen them on the KSE/Chimaira tour and they fucking sucked balls. KSE was the best, but Dragonforce didn’t even touch Chim (and I’m not even a fan of Chim)
They fucking suck, aside from the studio recordings (which I happen to like first 20 listens) these guys are a fucking joke. Can’t play their own damn songs.
When i saw them live with protest the hero and a few other nameless bands they were awesome. I cant really say if they were spot on performancewise as i was pretty inebriated, but they were a fuckin blast live. If you take music too seriously and are worried about your street cred then you will probably not enjoy them live, but if you just like to get drunk and have fun at shows then they are definitely an awesome band to see. It was pretty hilarious when the singer had the entire club chanting “Sam is a cunt!” because he was fucked up and missed a couple notes.
I agree with dthrasher, I’ve seen them before and they’re incredibly entertaining live, but they really shouldn’t be taken seriously, they’re the Nitro of this generation.

As for Dragonforce, in a recent Guitar World interview they basically said they construct (compose) impossibly difficult songs on purpose and then have to relearn them to play live. Sounds like a completely unfun way to write music, but that’s their gimmick.
I was also at the KSE/Chimaira/Dragonforce show and Chimaira was by far the tighest although KSE stole the show for me. Dragonforce live is all keyboards and power chords, seriously, it was terrible.
I never got into Dragonforce and I couldn’t figure out why until recently. I mean, they can shred, they sound really tight (at least on their albums), the songwriting is pretty good, so what’s the problem?
I was drunk in a bar the other weekend when Dragonforce came on and I realized that Dragonforce sounds pretty much like Bon Jovi sped up to about 3x the speed. Has anyone else ever had that thought?

I loved DF when I first heard them, about four and a half years ago, but I’ve kinda grown out of them since. Having said that, I did see them live a few months back, and they were very sloppy live. Fun, entertaining, but far from tight.
Oh and Jesse, Fred may seem like he’s “Not exactly the most outstanding bass player of our time” based on DF’s songs, but DF don’t really give a toss about bass. Fred doesn’t even do bass solos live, he does guitar solos. And based on what I’ve seen, he’s actually the best guitarist in the band (although many will say that’s not saying much).

I think people are just pissed that Dragonforce are just suited to a different crowd. It’s not the Rhapsody (of Fire, I am with it) fans they are trying to court. They don’t even really care about power metal, I don’t think anyway. They just want to be that ironic goofball band jumping on trampolines playing nintendo guitar solos or whatever. It’s not a big deal if they don’t exactly make a huge dent on the metal world. I don’t think they are trying to. Half of their fanbase wouldn’t even exist without Red Bull, Guitar Hero, and Youtube. Let them have their fun, it won’t last much longer I’m sure.
If you really want to hear some virtuoso power metal, listen to Angra. Those guys can really play that fast, and still come up with some interesting tunes. And they are from Brazil, or Portugal. I can never remember which

I saw DragonForce with Killswitch, Chimaira, and He is Legend awhile back and they were pretty sick…then I saw them on Mayhem and was quite happy I only had to endure one song as I’d made the correct choice and stayed through Machine Head’s whole set.

Well, I saw Dragonforce a couple of months ago with Turisas and Powerglove, and I was surprised at how well they held up live. I had always heard all of this bad stuff about their live shows, as well as seen them play shitty on these youtube videos, and I was expecting the worst. However, they put on an entertaining show and did a good job at hitting their songs and solos. It may be due to the fact that I only saw Sam drinking one beer the whole preformance…

Yeah, well Limp Bizkit are awesome live so I can only assume you mean Dragonforce sucked. Seen them live twice in fact, both times they sucked.

Dragonforce sucks ass live. I can cockslap the fretboard and make (many of) the same sounds these guys do on stage. Yes, I liked the band when I first heard about them, what, 6 years ago? It was different and cutting-edge sound…. but now its the same song wither a different (computerized guitar-effect) solo over and over again. Guitar Hero is the ONLY reason this band has sold more than 100 copies.
..and their singer sounds like someone’s running his testicles over with a iron-wheeled tank during live shows. They are terrible, and this… as sad as I am to say this… is the first time I have EVER agreed with BillO…. and that pains me in a way I will never be able to explain.
