AT LEAST ONE COUNTDOWN WAS WORTH IT (HINT: TRENT REZNOR IS INVOLVED)

Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 4:06pm by Vince Neilstein

From nin.com [via MetalSucks Maniac Sukey Scorer], we have an update to Trent Reznor’s mysterious weekend countdown message:

The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.

If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I’ll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.

Oh yeah, you didn’t hear this from me.

Just the latest in a long, long string of ultimate “bro” moves by Trent Reznor over the past year.

But wait; it doesn’t stop there.

There is also a fan site called This One Is On Us that aims to collect fan-filmed footage from cell phones, digital cameras, etc from all over the Internet — not the official stuff from Trent — to allow fans to create their very own edit of the Lights In the Sky tour’s last show in Las Vegas (also the last show with Josh Freese and Alessandro Cortini in the band).

If that’s not innovative, I don’t know what is. Harness the power of the Internet to connect the true fans and establish an even deeper connection with them. A defiant “fuck you” in the face of NIN’s old record label (Interscope) who blocked the filming of an official DVD.

Trent does it yet again.

This is nice. 1 for Reznor from me :)

  2. Jesse says:

God damn. Trent Reznor never ceases to amaze me.

  3. Torgo says:

Sorry to burst your bubble – but Thisoneisonus IS USING the stuff from Trent.

We are creating a 2 disk DVD for the fans with the first DVD being ALL fan created and the second being fan edits of the “mysteriously obtained” HD footage from nin.com.

Please read the website before you print your article… ;)

  4. Shanetera says:

I’ve always hated his music, but god damn it Trent Reznor does do some cool stuff for his fans. Thank god someone understands that you have to actually make your fans like you, it doesn’t just happen.

  5. Anthony says:

I don’t even like NIN that much from a musical standpoint, but Trent doing all this stuff is making me want to become a fan of there’s. Just because.

But seriously though, With Teeth wasn’t that good.

  6. Princess says:

    He’s fucking brilliant.

  7. That Other Guy says:

    100 Trent Reznor.
    You sir, are the man!

  8. Joe A. says:

Anthony – “But seriously though, With Teeth wasn’t that good.”

That’s why it’s better to get your hands on the Downward Spiral or Year Zero.

  9. Adam says:

Oh god, you rank Year Zero BETTER than With Teeth? You’re nuts!

    Downward Spiral totally FTW.

Oh, and I think now that Trent isn’t perpetually in a drug induced haze and is probably not hurting financially, and is seeing the shit the record industry pulls and how it screws the consumer, I think he knows this is the way to go and maybe he is hoping others will follow the example. That would be good.

  10. Michael Moore says:

Year Zero was better than With Teeth. With Teeth was still good, though.

But, Downward Spiral and my personal favorite, the Fragile, those are definitely the best of the best.

  11. lern2swim says:

Any one of NIN’s albums is better than 90% of music ever created so bickering about individual albums is asinine

  12. Blackthorned says:

Just when I thought Reznor couldn’t walk his talk any more. Bravo that man!

I like With Teeth, I like the fact it’s a collection of songs rather than a cohesive whole. It’s a little different in that regard. But I think The Fragile is very underrated. Nobody gave two hoots when it came out as I recall, maybe they still don’t. I wouldn’t know, I live down a tin mine.

  13. Boltok Beast says:

I am still hoping i get to see him live. I’ll take broken with the hidden tracks for the win. had it on cassette bought that bitch on cd and it still sounds awesome.

  14. Rocknbassman says:

To anyone who says NIN’s music isn’t good, GO SEE THEM LIVE!!!

I’ve listened to Trent since I was 16 and bought my second CD which was Pretty Hate Machine. I do like the CD’s, but seeing them live totally blows your mind. I usually only listen to the live DVD rips of All The Could Have Been and Beside You In Time. When a band sounds better live than on a studio recording, you know they’re the real deal!
