METALHEADS, PACK YOUR BAGS FOR ATLANTA ON FEB. 28!!

Friday, January 9th, 2009 at 4:36pm by Vince Neilstein

scion rock fest atlantaThe New England Metal and Hardcore Festival finally has a rival. MS Maniac Toxteth O’Grady and about a bazillion others have tipped us off to one of the most exciting new U.S. festival to hit the scene in years, The Scion Rock Fest, to be held at The Masquerade in Atlanta on February 28th. Before you balk at the corporate name, consider a) that the tickets are fucking FREE, and b) this lineup:

Mastodon, Neurosis, High on Fire, Boris, 1349, Cryptopsy, Torche, Nachtmystium, Wolves in the Throne Room, Baroness, Harvey Milk, Kylesa, Zoroaster, Withered, Krallice, Toxic Holocaust, Skeletonwitch, Rwake, A Storm of Light, Warbringer, Salome, Suidakra, Tyr, Alestorm and more…

And it’s fucking free. Is this for real??

Yes, friends, it is. We aren’t sure how tickets will be made publicly available yet, but we do know this: we will have 20 pairs of tickets to give away on MetalSucks.

Have a fucking great weekend everyone!

  8. jonowev says:

  9. 36Thoughtless says:

Ooo…a metal festival I might actually have a chance of attending…

  10. Lainad says:

    Holy shit.

I was in Atlanta a week ago and heard rumours about this. Shit!!!!! Why do I live in Canada again?

  11. Kye says:

  12. loganarchy says:

  14. Qella says:

*picks jaw off floor, changes underpants*

Is transportation from Canada free too?

That is possibly the best lineup I have EVER seen!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Joining the whole “OMFG, creamed my pants” sentiment. It would be great if went out as a tour with at least half of these bands.
Either way, it’s pretty amusing that Toyota/Scion is sponsoring this, and I wonder what the members of those bands think of that.

  16. WetBiscut says:

Who knew there were so many Canadian fans of metalsucks??

I’ll be driving from Windsor, Ontario. Lets carpool!!!

  17. Ryan says:

If i can win a ticket, i’ll definitely be packing my bags!

  18. Mark says:

There’s actually two different stages on separate floors of this venue. Heaven (upstairs, much bigger), and Hell (downstairs, smallter). I can’t imagine it just being upstairs so they’ll probably switch off. Or bigger bands upstairs, smaller bands downstairs etc etc.

  19. Matthew says:

The Masquerade actually has four spots bands play. The stages are hell, purgatory, heaven, and an outside stage that has no religious referencing name. The outdoor stage is the largest area and I assume they will be using this.

  20. SP420 says:

This is better than any of the past 5 NE fests…holy shit.

  21. Matt says:

I live in Atlanta and have been the to the Masquerade for all kinds of shows and trust me…..metal shows here are spectacular. The sound is amazing and intense. This little bit of news has put me in a good mood that will last the rest of the day. Can’t wait. All these bands are spectacular

  22. loganarchy says:

You have to be 18 and over…dammit, Scion, I lost all respect for you. And now there’s no chance in hell I’m buying an xB.

  23. niggaplease says:

    “Finally has competition?”

New England Metal and Hardcore sucks. And are you clowns that ignorant of Maryland Death? Jeez.

Quit listening to lamb of God and Opeth and check out something that doesn’t suck for once.

  24. Andypants!!! says:

    niggaplease, NIGGA PLEASE!!!

MDF isnt till may anyway. so stfu and quit being a fucking snob.

I, for one, will be attending this show.. No fucking matter what.

  25. Kim Kelly says:

I booked my flight last night! Wouldn’t miss this for the world, especially with my boys in Nachtmystium, Krallice, and Zoroaster tearing shit up.

  26. Plastik says:

    I live in atlanta

    will be going

will camp outside of the masq if i have to

The masq is incredibly old btw

the place is probably gonna fall down because of this show, it will bet a good way to die though

  27. niggaplease says:

“Andypants!!!”- Another equally lame commenter made that crippled joke. Try harder.

And try making an actual point. What the hell does MDF being in May have to do with what I said?

    LOL@Snobby. It’s called taste.

  28. Andypants!! says:

    OMG METAL IS SRS BZNZ

Taste and opinion are two very different things.

  29. JTL says:

Though not mentioned on the scion page, Relapse’s tour date page confirms that Pig Destroyer will also be at this show.

  30. niggaplease says:

    And birds go tweet.

    Intenta mas duro, maldito.

  31. Wes Huntsinger says:

I needs them tickets bad man. Help a brother out. Hail the mighty “Mastodon”

  32. Pathological Mastermind says:

I am flying in from northern Michigan. Found an airline ticket for $128 round trip. A little weary of having tickets but still might not get in? Can anyone give some info as to whats going on with admission to the event?
