PRESUMABLY MANY OF YOU WILL CARE THAT ISIS HAS A NEW ALBUM COMING OUT IN MAY

File Isis under “bands I just don’t get.” I mean, I GET it… long, drony songs, heavy, fuzzed out bass, big, loopy riffs, raw production, lack of traditional song structure… but I don’t GET IT get it. As in, see what all the fuss is about. Im fully aware of the importance and influence of this band, especially to those who grew up with more of a punk background as opposed to a metal background… but man, every time I try to listen to an Isis record (a feat I’ve attempted many times) I just get bored, zone out, and forget I’m listening to it. Kinda like when you’re reading a book but your mind is elsewhere and you get to the bottom of the page only to release you can’t actually remember anything you just read… actually, listening to Isis is exactly like that for me. Consistently.

ANYWAY, I’m sure I’ll get tons of shit for the above, but fuck it, bring it on. Presumably said shit-givers are the same folks who will be really excited to learn that Isis has set May 5th as the release for their forthcoming album Wavering Radiant (Ipecac Recordings). The album was produced by Joe Baressi of Tool and Queens of the Stone Age fame, so at least there’s that. And Tool’s Adam Jones contributed guitar to two songs on the record; so there’s that, too. But still, ya know….

Meh.

  1. Goddamnit Vince. OCEANIC OCEANIC OCEANIC!

  2. Ryan says:

reallly… goddamnit vince. if you’re bored with their recent albums, get some of the early stuff and have your eyes slowly opened..

  3. Ezra says:

Plus, they play awesome aluminum guitars!

  4. dthrasher says:

I was on a long road trip recently and listened to Oceanic and In the Absence Truth one right after another. It was awesome. f you vince.

  5. Fink says:

    Yeah… what they said.

  6. Cisco says:

Sometimes I wish I still smoked because I figure if you take a couple of knife hits of some really primo ganja, sit back and soak it all in you would ‘get it’.

  7. Van Arseface says:

Sweet. I love this band and look forward to a new album. That said, they are certainly not for everyone. I’ve heard they are an acquired taste, but they hooked me right away.

  8. vegard says:

cult of luna do it better imho.

  9. g says:

Joe Baressi is fucking awesome, maybe this record will have some lasting power for me

  10. seveword says:

And strangely, there are some people here who don’t “get” the latest folk-prog-jazz-fusion band that you pull out of your ass. So there’s that. Taste is taste. There’s obviously a point where you can call someone an idiot for what they listen to, but beyond a certain point it just falls into the realm of personal tastes.

    Also, fuck Sevendust.

  11. Listen to Oceanic on a Saturday… *wink-wink*

  12. mr_Izan says:

you’ll probably like mosquito control. they were thrashier when they first formed.

  13. Seth says:

I agree with Vince and also don’t “get it.” As a radio DJ in college I got an Isis album delivered to me, and played it repeatedly cuz it was “cool” but never liked it. To be fair, I haven’t given them enough of a shot, but I HATE drony. Drony = boring to me…

But in the spirit of “giving Vince shit,” I’ll give him shit for not listening to my sweet band when he promised he would after the local band post a few months back. Shame on you Vince — not being able to listen to my band’s album when you get 20,000 submissions a week is just uncalled for!

  14. billybob says:

I think listening to copious amounts of breakneck-speed metal has maybe had some adverse effects on your attention span. Fear not, because there is a cure! Might I suggest a healthy dose of psilocybin mushrooms, or maybe simply 5 or 10 minutes of transcendental meditation before putting on any ISIS record. I suggest Panopticon (my personal favourite-[hehe I'm Canadian]) Remember, it’s all about set and setting ;)

  15. Joe says:

Isis do the best cover of Sabbath this side of Sleep. I am trying to remember what damn EP it is on. But it is awesome. I was a fan for life after I heard that version of “Hand of Doom.” Sawblade. Maybe that’s what it was called. Fuck if I know.

  16. in-the-absence-of-your-mum says:

Isis are in my opinion one of the most amazing bands around at the moment, theres no other band that can make their music as atmospheric as they do. Normally vince seems like he knows what he’s talking about but in this case he’s so very wrong. Anyone that uses the word “meh” probably wouldnt get the awsomeness of Isis

  17. SickSixSeth says:

Joe, you’re right. It was on Sawblade.

    Isis owns.

  18. greenagain says:

Its good shit, the elevator music of metal…

  19. Conduit#bongloads says:

Smoke weed, trip on mushrooms, or shoot up some heroin. Isis went from a pretty cool band I just found to one of the gods.

  20. fightingmike says:

I love Isis!!! Their last one did bore me though, but Signal 5, Oceanic, and Pantopticon are all amazing!!!

  21. Ross says:

    This band is fucking booooooooooring.

  22. Alex says:

This could be the best news I’ve heard since hearing about LoGs new album.

  23. jamie says:

    seveword
    shut the fuck up
he isnt pushing his fucking tastes on us
    yes taste it taste
    so agree to disagree
he isnt saying they suck( i love them)

  24. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

  25. logs/faskings says:

SATAN AND DEATH PUKE METAL SUCKS ASS. WHAT A BUNCH OF NO TALENTED HOCKEYSTAINS. LET ME KNOW WHEN THESE SATANIC (A WEAK SELLING POINT ON THESE NO TALENTED BANDS) ASSCLOWNS SELL AS MANY RECORDS AS TOO CREED, AND NICKELBACK – OH ALSO LET ME KNOW WHEN THEY ACHIEVE THE SAME TALNET AS WELL. WHAT A LOAD OF HOCKEY. THANKS IN ADVANCE. LOGS/FASKINGS.

  26. \m/Eluveitie\m/ says:

Isis is neither Satanic nor death metal…

  27. logs/faskings says:

    eyes of a hockeystain. logs/faskings.

  28. Blackthorned says:

Well horses for courses. I don’t get Mastodon but my loss probably. Isis on the other hand are incredible, even if the last album fell a little short of the previous two it was still very good. Really looking forward to sitting down and listening to the new album.
One of the best live shows I’ve ever experienced too – and then they packed away their own gear afterwards.
