POLL: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW LAMB OF GOD ALBUM WRATH?
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 2:23pm by Vince Neilstein
Lots of you have been emailing us to tell us that Wrath has leaked. Thanks for the memo, but we’ve had it for weeks, you sillies! In any case, by now those with enough motivation and brianpower to seek out the leaked album have had a chance to listen to and digest the latest from Lamb of God, undoubtedly one of the biggest (and best, IMO) modern metal bands of the ’00s. So what do you think? How does it stack against prior LoG releases? Vote below, and tell us why in the comments. Then check out the very awesome “Escape the Plague” contest Lamb of God is running in conjunction with the new album release.

BRIANPOWER!!!!!!
unfortunatly i cant vote because there isnt a “its aweful just like everything else theyve released”
ooooo this guy ^
This album it preety top notch, although the options are limited. Its either horrible, they’re not trying, or the best thing they’ve ever done.
Lamb Of God’s WORST is still better than the BEST from the rotten shit coming out through the metal pipe these days. Songs like “Reclamation” are a breath of fresh air.
I’m completely underwhelmed by this album, just like every thing else they’ve released. They’re fun live, but that’s about it.
Aside from the typical knee-jerk response of “Its not like their old stuff blah, blah blah” I’d say its pretty good. It feels more like an album where they’re actually TRYING to get more people to listen to it. Whether or not that’s a bad thing is up to the listener.
I think that it’s mediocre, which considering it’s Lamb of God is pretty good for them. They aren’t really trying to do anything special though, just appeal to the lowest common denominator.
It’s too soon for me to say whether or not it’s their best, but I’m certainly enjoying it.
how about a ” i can’t decide yet cause im waiting til the album actually comes out to buy it ” category.
but i like the tracks they released
The great tracks are amazing, but the crap tracks are pure filler. It balances out as a “pretty damn good, but not as good as Sacrament” album.

I am always curious who it is that gets to decide what the lowest common denominator is. I have enjoyed pretty much everything LOG has put out and i really dont consider myself an easy sell or anywhere near the lowest common denominator. That is just one of those statements that to me always sounds like it belongs in one of those pretentious trendy music magazines.
It’s certainly better than that piece of shit Sacrament. Their ferocity is back to some extent. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen them live but I’d be willing to bet that their shows are still fucking great. They’re never gonna return to the “Pantera and Meshuggah having a fistfight” sound of their BTP shit, which is too bad, but at the same time bands move on. At least it’s not Sacrament.
I agree with the person who said that even their worst is still better than everything else out there today.
I think it’s phenomenal, having listened to it about eight times since it leaked… ‘As The Palaces Burn’ is still my favorite, but ‘Wrath’ is a great album.
Wrath is a decent record-brutal and groove, and I love the post-metal elements in it…Best moments on first listen: Fake Messiah, Broken Hands, Reclamation :D
I trust this album will stir up some good tunes. So far i like what i hear. Sounds like they’ve stepped it up a slight notch. Faster then Sacrament, and I like that album. It wasn’t heir best or their worst. I’ll have better judgment when I hear it live. Til then I’ll wait patiently and let all the Haters do their shit talking.
I think it’s a really good album, only done a few spins on it so far but I like what I hear rather a lot so far. Will take a while longer and a few more plays to see if it stands above “Ashes of the Wake” and “…Palaces” in terms of greatness for me though.
The first real song, not the intro almost has the same riff as the first riff, also not the intro, of the Kreator cd.
Coink-a-dink?
I don’t think its as good as Palaces of their stuff but in my opinion its right up there. I feel like they took Sacrament and made it faster, heavier and all around better. Can’t wait to see some of these songs played live
I also feel like Devin Townsend did back up vocals on this. I guess Randy’s sessions with Melissa Cross paid off…..
Don’t know how the album sounds. I have control over myself, which ables me to wait for something to come out. Losers
Dude how about before you call us all “faggits” and “losers” you learn how to spell the alleged insult the right way, “faggot”
lol your the loser without the new lamb of god cd.
i dont like the direction randy is going with his vocals, other then that.. its lamb of god!
Technically a faggot is a bundle of sticks which has nothing to do with Lamb of God, unless of course you think they are about as good as a bundle of sticks. In any case, I feel like I should dig the new album from what I hear because it is pretty good, but there is something in the back of my mind that keeps saying, “Where did the tasty riffs go?”
Glad I’m not alone with that it’s a decent effort but it’s nothing to go crazy or think it’s their best work yet. I mean the new ideas are awesome, the riffs are amazing, but it just lacks that punch and memorablity. Not that I wanted them to do another Sacrament at all, there are many ways to have memorable songs. But it is a decent effort and I respect that they put out something different rather than just doing a part-two of the last album
I like this album plenty, It’s a nice groover with some great riffs and a couple of surprises here and there, but this album was over-hyped. A lot. especially by a couple of guys named Axl and Vince.
Give me Sacrament and Ashes of the Wake over Wrath any day.
Its not the second coming or anything but in my opinion its second only to ‘Ashes’. Every song is solid at worst with 4 or 5 instant LOG classics. Randy steals the show on this record trying ballsy new stuff. Don’t know how you can remotely say this is shit. People expect too much and try to compare with past works while the band continues to trying new things. They are evolving as they should and in the right direction. Listen to it a few times, it will grow on you. The more I listen to it the more amazing I think it is. Easy 9/10
I think it’s a solid release. It’s experimental (in a good way), it pushes their boundaries and it’s a big step up from Sacrament. I’m listening to it for the third time now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they started playing every song in drop Db from now on (like when Metallica went from standard to Eb for live shit and recording).
Wrath is LoG’s Black Album with the added bonus of balls.
It’s good, but probably the second worst album they’ve done. Palaces is still their best, and Ashes is still second.
After my first four listens, this album is definently a step in a new direction for LoG. Although, some songs just jump out at me especially Reclamation, I am guessing like the four other albums, that this one will take time to fully appreciate. Isn’t that how all good music is?
I think “Corey Mitchell” is onto something there. LOG have created a gate-way drug album. This is an album that’s going to get kids off listening to Disturbed, and listening to something with a bit of credibility. Much like metallica’s black album did. Then as they learn to love it, people went back and listened to Puppets etc, much like they’ll do with Palaces. Which can only be a good thing.
This records kicks ass, jus tlike every other one they have. And if i hear someone complain about sacrament one more time I’ll hit somebody – awesome heavy ass metal record.
Anyway.. wtf is on the deluxe version?! No one seems to know.
awesome form start to finish.
OH NO!!
Don’t say this is like the black album…
That was the beginning of a lot of shitty albums out of Metallica.
If Lamb of God got all shitty I would cry lol.
I think Wrath is fucking cool.
And its like nothing thats been put out by them or anyone ever before so theres a plus.
I challenge you to place this record in one neat little sub genre. It pushes a lot of boundaries and kicks most modern metals ass while doing it.
@Boococky:
Haha yeah I agree, Sacrament was really good and the purists should go complain about something else.
I think that the deluxe edition has two or three tracks the leak doesn’t have.
But I’m not sure.
For anyone saying shit about downloading a leak, if your going to go buy it when it comes out anyways, what does it matter if you open the present a little early….
Great album, way better than Sacrament by a longshot. I’m definitely going to buy the album when it comes out on the 24th. P2P is cool, but the artist’s don’t get paid. Support the metal scene and buy atleast 1 cd/T-shirt/DVD once in a while, unless it’s Metallica they can afford it, they literally make millions!
What MetalMeatHammer said.
Plus I don’t think the American metal scene has many serious contenders right now, which is probably why I think Lamb Of God are so ahead of anyone else. Even when they threaten autopilot it’s more than enough. But this is an album to enjoy from start to finish – well done LoG.
And Wrath is their Black album?! WTF? Sounds great as a soundbite on a forum but holds absolutely no weight.
Saying this is LOG’s Black Album is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard- Have you guys actually listened to the Black Album? Wrath is heavier than Sacrament, and even more technical, theres not future top 40 hits here. And that’s a good thing.
153 FUCKING IDIOTS. I BET EVERYONE WHO VOTED THIS BEING THEIR BEST RECORD HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BEFORE SACRAMENT. THIS ALBUM IS AN IMMENSE DISSAPOINTMENT. IVE LISTENED TO IT ALL DAY EVERYDAY FOR THE PAST 3 DAYS AND CANNOT FIND THAT ONE SONG THAT REALLY MAKES ME WANT TO KICK SOMEONE IN THE TEETH. YEA CHRIS’S DRUMMING IS GREAT BUT WHAT DID WE EXPECT HIS DRUMMING TO SUCK? THIS IS THE DOWNFALL OF LOG…….now that my rant is done I will be seeing them in Albany in May hoping they play everything before Wrath.
Wrath blows away Sacrament! It’s a really really good album. Definitely going to be in my top 5 for the year.
I also love the ONE sweep in the entire CD during Mark’s solo on Grace. Definitely fuckin’ awesome.
Chumplunt:

I agree, and think that this album has the potential to bring HIGH QUALITY, CREDIBLE heavy metal to the masses, even more so than their previous releases. Basically “Wrath” is very accessible, while still being damn heavy and technical enough to satisfy even the most picky metal head (unless you really are a super jaded prick, then there is no hope for you). I’d say the we could use another Pantera (I certainly wouldn’t mind), ready for heavy metal world domination. That’s where Lamb of God comes in.
The record is not some major change for the band but at the same time there are many liittle tweaks and differences spread out through the record but at the same time certain riffs feel like revisited ideas. Randy’s vocals are starting to show a lot more range and the drumming is off the charts on this one. I loved how the record doesnt seem to be as polished as sacrament either. Its got the groove you want, and no song to me seems like filler at all. Best track is Reclamation hands down, but I also dug Grace a lot with its little acoustic intro and then off we go vibe going on. This is the record that a 12-15 year will get his/her hands on begin a wonderful trip into heavy metal which i think is a good thing, cause no matter what LOG kept it heavy, fun, and with a sense of purpose as well.
Metalheads can be an odd bunch, if a band puts out a good album early in their career before they really take off and get success, some will latch on to it and refuse to ever acknowledge anything after that as being good no matter how good it is all in the name of being an old school fan and remembering the “good ole days when they still knew how to make bad ass music that wasnt popular” I’ll never ever understand being a fan of a band but never wanting them to progress or get a little fame even though they really havent changed all that much. LOG has certainly progressed but they arent all that much different. I know saying that will bring out the hand full of people i am talking about out to tell me I am stupid if i dont think they are a 100% different band than they were when they were Burn The Priest, but they are not. BTP was just a younger more raw and un polished version of the band now, they have progressed but they are still the same guys doing the same music.Get over it and quit complaining about Sacrament and the new stuff. We all know its cooler for some reason to say you dont like the new stuff once a band gets on the mainstream a little more but it all just seems silly to me.
Ashes of the wake might still be my favorite, but this isn’t bad by any means. Fake Messiah, Broken Hands, and Reclamation are so good, I can’t stop listening.
some random thoughts after giving “Wrath” another listen:
Chris Adler’s drums sound great on this album. I think he is one of the most underrated drummers in metal. I wasn’t really digging the comparison between Wrath and Metallica’s Black album, but if they do have something in common, it’s the high quality of the drum sound. While Ulrich’s drumming on the Black album was nowhere near his best work, the sound was amazing; crisp, clear and very loud. I’d say the same is true for Adler’s drumming on Wrath.
A lot of the main guitar riffs on Wrath seem to be in the style of thrash, rather than their typical “groove” sound (I don’t like the “groove” metal moniker all that much, but everyone hopefully knows what I mean when I say this; Pantera perfected “groove metal.”
still like this album a lot, as I have with every LOG release. I don’t even think I could rank them if I had to.
OK I have to admit I like this CD. Much better than Sacrament which was utter horse hit, but noting like As the Palaces Burn which one of the best metal albums ever made.
Alright, I’m pretty new to the Lamb’s fold. I was inducted (or should I say abducted) last year by a friend. I’m into pretty much ALL music… I like KoRn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, My Chem, etc. etc. However, to say WRATH is something never touched upon. Wow, slap my bitch up and take a listen to Chimaira, Machine Head, In Flames, Sepultura or Soulfly’s catalogue. There’s many others that comes to mind. I say that without complaint because the familiarity with the sound is what makes me gravitate to Lamb of God. Seeing as it is that SACRIMENT was my introduction (then I went back and listened to the others), obviously I liked what I heard on SACRIMENT; hence, I’m still listening. Thus the harsh negative reviews of such album shows the under-appreciation fans have for their bands. Pretty similiar in the words of ^ Ceth, it is this type of reaction that has caused me to take a look at what I’m feeling as a dropped weight on Staind (showcasing their decreased momentum by each album from TORMENTED). So although this is not my Carnifex, White Chapel, Suicide Silence nor Abigail Williams. I think this album is very much solid throughout and I can’t wait to go get my official hardcopy. Right now my standout tracks are “Contractor” and “Reclamation.” Oh and by the way, no WRATH will not replace my affinity for THE SICKNESS but maybe some of Disturbed’s latter material… but anytime I’m listening to something else I guess they’re buying time from another band. Now, I can’t wait for CULT OF STATIC!!!!!!!
Lamb of god suck blood soaked balls, and are nothing more than a horse hit like how godforbidrulz has proclaimed
This album is groovy as butter, the technicality of their songs has risen and the intensity of Blthye’s voice has increased, Adler’s drumming is some of the most creative in modern metal, the riffs are tight, and is substantially more insightful in the lyrics. Honestly, this matches or tops what they have done so far. Not like it really matters, all of their albums make me want to murder anyways.
Well, I haven’t heard it yet, but this does definitely help explain why the record industry is in such bad shape right now.
I love this album man but i think that it stacks about the same as sacrament which is also an amazing album. Although i think they kinda overhyped this album its still the next step in lamb of gods amazing evolution
Fuckin I dont know what all the hype was. I was expecting to be shocked. nope. I played it twice and went back to Burn the Priest and As the palaces burn.
and I lol’d after reading S-E-Y-E-S comments, no offence, ive just never heard anyone make sure and say that they like disturbed more than any lamb of god. It’s just like, well, i thought it would be impossible for someone to say that ever.
Its crazy to see the divide between radio friendly pseudo-metal and ummmm…. metal
No offense taken COSK, however what I said, [quote] “no WRATH will not replace my affinity for THE SICKNESS but maybe some of Disturbed’s latter material…” [unquote] in otherwords I try not to compare the two because imho they’re both metal however bc of their subgenres they shouldn’t be compared. Now I would boldly say I love Prince more than any of the aforementioned bands. OH BOY, I FEEL THE GNASHING OF TEETH OF THE APOCALYPSE NOW!!! But anyhow, I wonder what Corey Taylor or David Drainman would say about this… after-all didn’t LoG share the bill on last years Mayhemfest. So if the two headliners picked them and they gladly obliged they must compliment one another in some way. Maybe the affect has shown itself on WRATH (in the same manner that Atreyu sound showed itself after touring with radio-friendly bands), if you know what I mean.
just got it last night, it made me shit my pants, it was gross…..
Gave it my 1st spin… pretty damn solid.
After the first listen i was a bit dissapointed.but after the second listen it felt better but still.I was waitin’ more from LOG.
It don’t have to be fast to be heavy. I think there isn’t enough space and hints between brush strokes on this album. Every producer and his dog panders to those with a naive capacity and liking for one volume (compressed) productions.
It sounds funny on my hi-fi. Perhaps the producer produced this one for the piddyghettobox or Ipod.
More Ashes of the Wake please.
Im not a shit talker, but I hear what yall are sayin Sac. is kinder to the ear(for the fans)But Wrath does call out to the mass.A new front. Witch will look back as I have to some of the best years this band has (played, live or studio) A march on if you will ! Ask your self, whens the last time I heard a band not change, sorry adjust there sound to not only please there selves, but threre fans!!! Feal the music dont blame the messanger!
I thought the CD was very good…Tasty drums, new vocal sound – Nice modern Metal – If I wanted wrath to be like the old stuff…I would just put on the old cd stuff…problem solved.
CHOKE SERMON
THAT IS ALL
i think the album is pretty good. i actually like it better then some of the older stuff, not all. the only thing about this album that got me was the first 3 songs on the CD are way over compressed and causes some cutting out of the voice and guitar when double bass kicks in. kinda too much of a tremolo effect on the heavy parts.
Fake (Messiah)!!
