Macabre made the list. I’m happy. But otherwise, I’m sad. Death at number 3? Oh, so Arch Enemy is apparently a better band than Death? How can ANYTHING beat Crystal Mountain? That said, Hammer Smashed Face truly is one of the greatest Death Metal songs ever written. But doesn’t compare to the likes of Death. If my way were true, more early Cryptopsy, Hitchhiker by Macabre, some more Gorguts and Atheist, and Nile’s “Cast Down the Heretic”.

First three songs in death ever, all three are equal: Liege of inveracity, Execration Text, Suffer the children.
Second three songs: Into the grave, Pride assassin, Dreaming in red
Third three: Spirit crusher, Imago mortis, Reek of putrefaction

the black dahlia murder is one of the leading death metal bands in america
and are in my opinion one of the best, although i think something from nocturnal should have been on this list instead of a song from unhallowed
And In Flames deserve to be higher on this list, one of the first pioneers the melodic death metal scene

The list is pretty much a joke. When kids can vote, and vote as much as they like, this is what you get. 75% of the list is shit anyway.

in my opinion, this list is completely wrong.

i may only be a “15 year old that has only gotten into metal in the last few years”, but, so many of these songs are thrash or melodic death metal. if this was a “True” death metal list, Death would have to be #1. Cannibal Corpse is a great band, & hammer-smashed face is amazing, but there is no way that it should be at the top.

another thing, please dont generalize my generation. not all of us have side fringes and wear skinny jeans. it pisses me off that because i am growing up in a time where bands like “bring me the horizon” & “escape the fate” are more well known than a band like Death or Morbid Angel. there are still a few of us Defending The Faith.

Bloodbath and Opeth both being up there makes me really happy, and with two killer songs, as well. Brilliant. :)
However, I’d have to agree with most of the rest of you guys – while I love We Will Rise as a song, I’d never give it 2nd place on an all time best list.

Any “death” metal list that doesn’t have Death at #1 doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Some of the bands aren’t even death metal…Cynic? Opeth? Both are progressive metal. Amon Amarth is folk. The rest of it is shitty poser satanic bands singing about gore and religion…it’s been done for like 15 years…time to get new topics. List fails.

I’m glad Soilwork’s on there, but you guys definitely got the wrong album. Anything off of The Chainheart Machine would be a hell of a lot better (specifically Gen Speed Kill or Machinegun Majesty). Definitely the wrong Opeth song (The Drapery Falls only has one death metal part in it! Should’ve gone with Blackwater Park; no clean vocals). Paradise Lost was never death metal. Meshuggah is very much death metal (among other things). So were Celtic Frost; one of the originals. Also, it’s interesting Deicide wasn’t on there, for notoriety purposes.

On a side note, I laughed my ass off when I saw Hammer Smashed Face. Forever will it be associated with Ace Ventura. And I’m assuming the list was in no particular order.

Although Sepultura and even Slayer is Thrash,it can be considered in a Death Metal list,if one wants to stretch it.Its really band and even album specific.
