Why is there so much metalcore on this website? I listened to some of the new God Forbid just for shits, and it’s good for what it is. But it sounds like every other metalcore album out there. I mean, I realize how hard it is to sound original in a thirty-year old genre, but metalcore bands don’t even sound like they’re trying. Take bands like Mastodon, on the other hand. Their music may very well stand the test of time.

It’s okay. I can see why people dig it so much. The musicianship is great, but I’ve kinda grown out of this type of metal.

I’ll try to keep an open mind and give it a few more listens. It may grow on me.

I dig it… I need a few more listens for it to really sink in, but I think it’s an excellent album. I personally have preferred their more recent work, and I like that they’re evolving their sound a bit.

Determination is still in some ways my favorite, but this always slays, no doubt. Some of the cleans are a little iffy, other than that I have no complaints.

It isn’t just you with the black metal, I particularly noticed Dissection and later Immortal influence here and there.

Seriously awesome album. Terrific songwriting. Digging the clean vocals as well.
I’ve been waiting for this album since constitution (which was awesome) and was dreading a mediocre album since most bands run out of steam after many awesome releases (determination, gone forever, constitution). I was blown away when you guys put it up for streaming on myspace. Looking forward for Feb 24th and to see you live. Peace.

i loved determination and was really amped for the follow up…. but i knew by the ep released before gone forever that GF were no longer going to be a band i enjoyed. and the portent of the ep was right.
i always just tolerated byrons vocals… i thought he pretty much sucked (even on determination), but the music was so damn good i could still really enjoy the overall product. but then gone forever came out with more streamline, conventional songs and also clean vocals. i’m a big fan of clean vocals, but GF don’t seem to be able to take a trick vocally.. because these clean vocals suck. so instead of providing a vocal respite from byron, they only compound the problem.. probably should’ve gone with the 5 point 0 vocalist when they could….
anywho, i’ve always checked out successive GF releases in the (apparently vain) hope that they’ll come close their former zenith…..but no. earthsblood, to me, is one further step to the nadir. oh well. i might go listen to determination part II now

The album is mostly ADGCFAD. Bat The angels is in GCGCFAD. Shallow is in Eflat.

I think that’s the scope of it.

I actually think the singing is good, but on songs like walk alone, not sure if he’ll be able to hit the high notes live. phil labonte has trouble with that as well live, but he has to switch from singing to screaming and vice versa, brutal.

they use 7-strings. 7-strings standard are BEADGBE. I think they might have tuned down to A, from what I read. not sure if it’s AEADGBE or ADGCFAD, and if they do that in all or some of the songs. maybe Dallas can elaborate.

i really dig the music for the most part, and i respect the hell out of trying to branch out and sing, but when the best you can say about it is that theyre hitting the notes most of the time its time to move on and try something else i think. anyone know what this record is tuned to? im kind of shocked cause it sounds pretty detuned but not messy like a lot of other bands that do that. dallas?

That first main thrashy riff on “Shallow” kicks some serious ass. Like Slayer ass. I’m sorry, I’m a GF fanboy.
