I disagree that SCIENCE was the only redeeming Incubus album. I mean, it was BY FAR the best and most innovative, and by far my favorite, BUT I thought that Make Yourself and Morning View both had plenty of redeeming tracks (although littered between them were seveal pop-friendly hits that by no means reinvented the wheel).

That being said, Morning View was about the time Brandon began his “I am going to hum and draw out all my vocal lines so that I sound like a total d-bag” stage. Also, that was the last album for bassist Dirk Lance before being booted, or quitting, or both. After that they were never the same…Oh well…

In all honesty, I really like Sum 41’s Chuck album, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who did. It’s still got some pop-punk stuff in there, but there’s also some decent proto-thrash stuff that’s pretty catchy. The album really grew on me, surprisingly enough.

Everything telse they’ve done, on the other hand, has been crap. Kind of like Incubus (S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was a great album, everything else sucks horribly).

I’d bet that most of those douches in the audience had no idea what half of those songs were that they were playing, or who Halford was. They probably thought Tommy Lee was that guy from Methods of Mayhem and were wondering why he was on the drums.

Sum 41 are the least annoying of their genre of crappy pop-punk. They have talent, which is something that most of their peers can’t brag about.

Two of them formed a metal band called the Brown Brigade. It’s a stupid name, but I heard some riffs from a demo, and they sounded pretty tight.

Reminds me of the interview that Juliya (sp?) from that pseudo-metal show on Fuse did with Metallica a few years back. She asked them if they were excited about any up-and-coming bands, clearing expecting to hear about something metal-related. Lars immediately chimed in that they loved Sum-41 and that they reminded him of the Metallica guys when they were younger. I remember an awkward silence from Juliya as she did NOT have the same appreciation for them and she didn’t quite know what to say.

Anyway, to someone’s earlier point, at least these guys seem to have some fans (and credibility) among the older metal musicians out there. However that happened, I don’t know, but I guess it has to count for something. I will say that I like that they don’t seem to take themselves too seriously, which is always a good thing for a pop-punk band (unlike, say, the guy from Blink-182 that now thinks he’s writing ‘important’ U2 songs or some shit in that Angels and Airwaves band).

I don’t like Sum 41 as much as the next guy, but I’m realizing more and more that the “I don’t like them so they must be sucky douche-whatevers” is a really retarded thought process.

…except for the bands I dislike that really ARE douche-whatevers, of course.

Sum 41 is pop punk and thus inherently disliked by metal heads. At least they do it in a less annoying way than most bands and outwardly respect metal roots, which is more than can be said for most bands out there.

Also, if you think they are somehow more cheesebag than Motley Crue you’ve got to be kidding me. I mean, i know the creators of this site “jizz in their pants” over 80’s hair metal, but the ridic outfits, makeup and hair are just as played out and cheesy as high striped socks, chain wallets, and spiked hair.
