Yeah, me too. That was pretty cool. Well, anyway… here’s a clip of Soundgarden performing “Outshined” live in 1991.

How sad. Where did this guy go?

The new album, which has leaked BTW, sounds nothing like any semblance of a Soundgarden or even a Chris Cornell album. Which may have been the point. It’s not horrible, but it’s not good. There’s the faint whispers of Chris’ songwriting style sprinkled here and there, but other than that the album comes off like an overly produced Timbaland synth fest with guest vocals from a former rock god.

This song will always be a jam. I agree that everyone preferred long-haired, soaring-high-note Cornell, but I’m not so against what he’s doing now. I met the guy about a year ago when I was working in Boston radio. He came off as a nice guy and he definitely put in a lot of time and work to promote his music.

Oh, and the last time I saw him live, also a year ago, he definitely played this song.

Vince ….. would you say that to his face??? I didn’t think so.
The man can still wail. Just watch him in concert when he doubles over, gripping his abdomen, and squeezes out every last ounce of air into his vocals. It’s amazing to behold.
I’m in total agreement with contemptmedia… I’m really into his new album Scream. Take the time to listen to Enemy, Sweet Revenge, Take Me Alive, Scream. The lyrics to those songs carry much weight and come from a dark place. These particular songs may satisfy your need for “Soundgarden Chris” .

Damn, he was fine back then!

Back in ‘92, Soundgarden was at the Muchmusic studios in Toronto, and me and my best friend were standing at the window with about 500 other people waiting for them. There were these huge biker guys, lots of tattoos, long hair, etc who were talking shit behind us, acting really macho, etc. When Chris walked in, one of the guys started shrieking, ‘ohmigod! Look at his hair! He sooo tall!’ in this really high, feminine voice. I turned around to see if he was joking, and he wasn’t.

    It was kinda strange.

    LOL Lainad –

Not so weird, though, cause Cornell’s always been a gay magnet due to his “pretty” looks.

Seems like everyone who defends CC’s recent trek into bad music territory never actually saw the guy play w/SG in the late ’80s/early ’90s. THAT was his peak. Cornell’s embarrassed himself WAY beyond any hope of redemption, but he’s so bloody self-absorbed and self-delusion that he’s probably happy as a pig in shit, anyway…just totally oblivious (no doubt he’s taking great psych meds ; ).
