RIMFROST: MUCH BETTER THAN AN ICY COLD BUTT-HOLE

More often than not we’re making of fun of black metal on MetalSucks, but that’s because black metal this good don’t come ’round these parts too often. Ya see, when a press release came across my e-desk announcing that Swedish black metallers Rimfrost had signed with Season of Mist Records I just had to click through the link to listen, if only because pretty much everything Season of Mist has released in the past year has been top fucking notch (see: Cynic + all of these bands). Since that fateful click-through decision I’ve literally been listening to the 5 songs Rimfrost have on their MySpace page on repeat all week.
Without getting too involved in micro-genre labeling or band comparisons, Rimfrost’s sound can be described thusly: they’d make fine touring partners with Enslaved, Keep of Kalessin and Nachtmystium. Do with that information what you will; ridiculous photo and sub-zero butt-hole-licking band name aside, Rimfrost are really fucking good.

Dude on the right there looks like he just found out Blink 182, No Doubt, and Limp Bizkit are all getting back together. Either that, or his dog just died.
^ No shit, all these bands should tour together so everyone can skip one show and get it over with.
I first heard about these guys when they were 15-16 something and played Immortal-style BM in their school :)
Unfortunately they were signed by a German label that also has alot of NSBM bands, like the Polish nazi bands Thor’s Hammer and Graveland, and several european publications boycott everything from that label. When the young guys in Rimfrost, who were 17-18 at that time, realized why no Swedish metal mags would review their CD they terminated the deal with the label and have been without a contract since. According to their website they were later offered a contract with a major label but when the company found out that they had been signed to that German label they oulled out of the deal.
Poor guys, they were probably very happy to get signed at such a young age but they had no idea about the labels reputation and how much shit they’d get in.
And just to clarify, these guys aren’t political at all. Guilt by association.
Some serious Immortal worship going on with this band, but hot damn… they do it quite well.
…Wow, even this site’s taste in black metal sucks. Too bad.
