BANG CAMARO: YEA OR NAY?

Friday, February 20th, 2009 at 4:19pm by Vince Neilstein

bang camaroI have a difficult relationship with Bang Camaro. On the one hand they write great, hooky throw-back ’80s cock rock anthems. On the other hand they do so ironically, and the band is made up of various members of fledgling indie-rock groups.

Check out the band’s new song “Night Lies” below, then check out some other tunes on their MySpace page. What do you think? The MS Twitter community gave a resounding “nay” this morning.

  1. YES. Emphatic. What’s not to like? I don’t think the irony is as strong as you might think…

  2. CARTER says:

Yay nay or gay should be the choices

  3. jewbacca says:

I said nay on twitter this morning, and now I’ll say just plain gay. I love you guys but DAMN, sometimes you baffle me!

  4. Steve says:

Im gonna say yea. the group rock vocals are unique and funny. they dont have to be serious, but theyre good. Why the fuck not?

  5. CJ says:

Fuck it. Yea. Like Steve said, Why not?

  6. Franklin says:

I dig it, if they toured with Crue it would be perfect. If they toured on Mayhem, maybe not so much.

  7. pokesmot says:

they are good for what they are obviously they aren’t metal so people who only like metal are gonna say ghey

  8. Brett says:

I’m from the Boston area and I still don’t get it. My friends are in the video fro Night Lies though:

  9. jewbacca says:

I love all genres of music, from classical, to metal, to some country. I just don’t like them. Are they unique? Yes. Are they good? No. Ah well, to each their own, right?

  10. jewbaccaisajew says:

    jewbacca, you’re a jew.

  11. jewbacca says:

    ^ Why, yes. Yes I am =)

  12. ughhh says:

yea. take it for what it is.

am i gonna pop it on my ipod for whenever? no.
did I have a great time seeing them at lollapalooza while hammered? yes.

  13. nick says:

I disagree with Jewy there about them being unique cause they’re a throw-back.
The production sounds all wrong for that type of music too. There’s practically no verb on the snare! Everything sounds like it was recorded in a closet and that music only sounds right in a stadium (simulated or not). The gang vocals should only be on the chorus. The new song really lacks energy so they sound like they’re phoning it in. Which is apt since they’re a bunch of phonies anyway.

  14. metaldood101 says:

yea kinda. isnt it strange the only got big from gh2 and have been in every rock band game so far

  15. metaldood101 says:

not strange just yknow noone would have cared about them other wise

  16. Benguin says:

Total yay for Bang Camaro. Saw them in Toronto and it was awesome.

  17. Ty says:

I’d say yea to Bang Camaro, their concept of 15 shouters shouting is kind of cool, and their guitar work is decent. Although I’m not huge into this kind of rock, and I wouldn’t be able to listen to it for long sittings.

  18. cpo says:

it sounds like the sword had sex with big gay al

  19. Kevin says:

    ^^^^
The Sword already has causal sex with big gay al….

  20. corpse says:

yes. as a rommate/friend once said, “you can’t make this kind of music without loving it”. they help keep the 80’s alive (and seriously, we NEED this). funny? absolutely. but listen to the album more than three times, and you’ll come to appreciate THEIR appreciation for all things 80’s. On their website, they have a FAQ and one question is, “is this band a joke?” the answer is very serious… but I should offer an answer, “did anybody ever ask Def Leppard if they were ‘a joke’?”
What I’m getting at is this: don’t let the dimension of time skew what you think about music. Enjoy it or don’t.

And (for the record), I think Bang Camaro is the best band in existence.

  21. Big Tuna says:

Yay BANG CAMARO. How many lead singers do you have in your puny band? One? Lame.

  22. LAZ says:

    Yea. Definitely Yea!

  23. Jason says:

Yea. Definitely. See them live; you won’t be disappointed.

  24. Topher says:

YEA! They’re fantastic. They put on a great live show and rock as hard as anyone!

  25. MissFortune says:

I am giving Bang Camaro a big, resounding YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t hate- APPRECIATE!!!!

  26. madchemist says:

Here Ye Here Ye……I and all the mountain hippies of VT say Yea….over and over again

  27. owen says:

    uh YEA!!!,

you can’t mess with the guitar work from this band. the hooks, the riffs, the melodies, the dualing lead harmonies oh yeah, everytime i put on the record i start smiling and want to smash a beer mug giving someone a toast because this is anthemic rock at its best, actually, i think thats a new genre. Bang Camaro made their own genre. seriously, the guitar work reminds me of every great rock guitarist i know.

  28. Bombs Away says:

A resounding yea. I saw these guys on Conan O’Brien a couple months ago. At first I liked the first bit of song, but didn’t get why there were so many people on stage. Then they started shouting and singing and it was awesome. And like corpse’s friend said: you can’t make this kind of music without loving it. I don’t think those guitarists would shred like that if it was a past-time joke and they wear newer clothes than me in the pics I’ve seen.

  29. Longshot028 says:

Hell yea. I thought it was highly ironic at first, but these guys can quote chapter and verse from Yngwie’s catalogue. Can most of you? Because I can’t and I’ve SEEN Yngwie in concert a couple of times. Listen to their music and let that speak for itself.

  30. crapaloosa says:

    I dunno lol

the guitarist with the green hat is cute :p

but 80’s metal is awsome, so yea, right? yea.

  31. ApolloniaDix says:

YEA, but that song “Revolution” on MySpace is way better than the one on this page. “Blood Red Rock” ain’t bad, either.

  32. micksta says:

Can I get A HELL YEA
I saw these guys on the Simple Man Cruise And Holy Shit. The energy they put out on stage was incredible. The guitarists were amazing. I saw them 4 times in as many days and I’m a big fan. Bought both the CDs before leaving the ship and can’t wait to see them next month in NYC.

Bryn and Alex Keep ROCKIN and thanx for the sore neck

  33. Khaos D. says:

One of my favorite bands ever. So obviously, it’s a yes.

And the only reason for them being in GH2 and Rock Band is because Bryn Benett, one of the three guitarists, is a coder for Harmonix (the company).

  34. jimbo says:

i thought yay at first, but after listening to the songs a few times it got REALLY old REALLY fast. it is what is it and i say that “it” is irritating as hell.

  35. Jimbo says:

I thought yay at first, but after listening to the songs a few times it got REALLY old REALLY fast. It is what is it and I say that “it” is irritating as hell. I do think the guitar players are very talented though.

  36. BishopLWCOG says:

YAY! They’re one of my favorite bands. Not only do they make awesome, fun music; but they’re really cool guys who are easily accessible after shows. Most bands just leave after the show ends. …and Bryn started working for Harmonix after their music was put in GH2. The band has to audition for it every time just like everyone else.

  37. yz250chick says:

    Hell YEA! Rock on! Awesome!

  38. Grayfox1001 says:

    Most Definately Yea.
I’ve known of these guys YEARS before GH2, And what they have out on video games, and this website, Is nothing, just a tiny sample to their true musical prowess. Their Guitar plays have a great blend of style, their singing is unique, and their collaboration as a band is just great.
In my opinion, the world is a better place with BC

  39. Stingfan24/7 says:

    Yay.

I heard somewhere they auditioned for the first Guitar Hero, as well…

And what’s wrong with being in other bands? Most bands are fledgling bands.

  40. Jessie says:

Super yea! Bang Camaro is the best thing since motley crue! catchy vocals, sweet guitar riffs, and a bunch of hot guys!! whats not to love?!

  41. Total yay, and maybe those who say nobody would care about them if it weren’t for the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but didn’t know Bang Camaro was in the games until after I heard them and then I almost wanted to DISlike them because I’m not fond of those franchises.

  42. Marie says:

Yay. Yay. YAY, Yes! Yes! YES! YES! God, Yes.

  43. almightyscorpion says:

YEA!! I’ve been to two of their shows, and they are like no other show I’ve ever seen. They rock harder than any other band I’ve seen, they hang out after the show and get to know everyone that they can personally, and then spend copious amounts of time with their friends and fans online.

On top of that, they’ve been doing it all their way. They’ve passed up record deals in order to keep complete control over their work, and despite that, now their second album is available in most major retailers. If that’s not the true definition of hard rock or metal (which is doing it your own way), then I don’t know what is. Besides- they’ve never claimed to be metal.

  44. kristy says:

    definitely yea. definitely.

  45. WIIIIIIIIIIIIII says:

    PUSH PUSH LADY LIGHTNING

  46. WIIIIIIIIIIIIII says:

    PLEASURE

  47. kaz says:

hell yes. obviously. these guys kick ass in every possible way.

  48. Seth says:

Put Guitar Hero aside and get into some anthem rock, YEA.

Without all the singers, Bang Camaro probably wouldn’t be able to pull off the sound they’re going for. Enter a wicked vibe with everyone singing their faces off.

    They have successfully taken flight.

  49. Gracie says:

Are you kidding? Is this even a serious question?
When it comes to Bang Camaro, the answer is always “HELL YEAH”!!!!!!!!

Just go to one show, and you’ll be ours forever! (in a less creepy tone…haha)

  50. matt says:

    yay obviously unreal musicians

  51. DJKatG says:

YEA! Come on! Not only is this a unique and fun band, but if you actually take a look/listen to Alex and Bryn.. they are kick ass guitarists.

  52. Sylak says:

    Fuck yea.

Sense of humor for the win.

  53. duudeerre says:

I was lead to believe there would be some sort of poll here. anyway. yay twice

  54. kpayer says:

YEA!! Bang Camaro kicks ass, and if you don’t agree, smell ya….*yells to everyone else* “Party at my place tonight.”

  55. lazor says:

    Fucking yes

  56. Bostahn says:

Fucking YEA dude, ironically or not these guys will shred your fucking faces off. I’m from Boston, they put on a mind-blowing show, and they’re the real deal.

  57. Push Push Lady Lightning says:

    BANG CAMARO ROCKS!!!!
I saw them last night at the showcase in foxboro…one word, UNBELEIVABLE!!!!!
I have seen AC/DC, I have seen METALLICA, I have been to Ozzfest for the past 3 years (not last years obv cuz it didnt come) but Bang Camaro was honestly up there with every one of them.
The crowd at showcase was behind them every second and extremely fired up! Even getting a 2nd encore.
Plus me and my friends started a mosh to ther song revolution.
    UNBELEIVABLE CONCERT!!!!!

If they ever come to a town near you and you dont go YOURE NUTS! WORHT EVERY PENNY!

  58. susana says:

    Yea.
When you first experience a ‘difficult relationship’ with a band, that’s the first sign it’s a sure yea.

  59. DeDannan says:

Fucking YEA. Their guitar solos rock and, if anything, they are one of the most underrated and inexplicably semi-unknown bands out there. Ironically or not, glam or not, they rock for real.

  60. Michael says:

holy fucking shit yes!!!!!!! not only do they write awesome fucking music and they are technically amazing musicians, they’re such cool guys! i went to their show in toronto in january with some friends, and we were lucky enough to get to talk to alex, dave and bryn (as well as a few other guys), and their just so friendly! one of the best nights of my life.

  61. Robbbie D says:

Yea. Is it fun? Yes. Does it rock? Enough. Is it Slayer? No, but not everyone has to be.

  62. Gil the Thrill says:

HELL YEA! THEY ROCK AND LIVE THEY ARE FUCKING AWESOME! THEY JUST ROCKED THE SHIT OUTTA AUSTIN AT SXSW! AND WHO DOESNT LOVE A BAND THAT PLAYS A SHOW WITH FREE BEER! GONNA SEE THEM AGAIN IN THREE WEEKS WHEN THEY COME BACK!
