FAITH NO MORE REUNION IS A GO. OFFICIALLY.

The webernet rumor mill has been swirling for months with talk of a Faith No More reunion this summer, but to date no one in the band’s camp has commented on the matter. And that remains true today… sort of. In a press release announcing FNM frontman Mike Patton’s involvement with the score of the feature film Crank 2, the last sentence alluded to said reunion (emphasis added):
Patton has also provided vocals to several videogames including “Bionic Commando,” “Portal,” “Left 4 Dead,” and “The Darkness.” He also lent his voice to Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse (character name: Rikki Kix). Patton just wrapped up a trek across Australia with Fantômas as part of the Big Day Out festival. His upcoming schedule includes a performance with labelmates Zu (Mar. 19 @ Great American Music Hallin San Francisco), the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Apr. 17 with Rahzel (ex-Roots beatboxer) and the highly anticipated reunion tour with Faith No More in Europe this summer.
So, um… is it happening or isn’t it?
It is. Patton’s publicist responded to an email inquiry from MetalSucks confirming that the reunion is indeed happening, that there are no U.S. dates (fuck!) and that Mike Patton is not doing press. No word yet on who will play guitar, though we’ll let you know as soon as we do. For that matter, the whole lineup outside of Patton is in question, though it appears likely Mike Bordin will participate, whatwith the lack of an Ozzfest this year.
In the meantime check out this video of the band performing “Caffeine” live in the MTV Studios sometime around the release of Angel Dust.

Well fuck me pink.
I wonder whose idea this was; it doesn’t strike me as Patton’s brainchild. But then again, I’m shocked as hell that he agreed to do it, so.. uh.. I don’t know. I love Faith No More like a motherfucker, but I can’t say I’m super stoked about this. And that doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that there are no US dates.
Sure, the middle of a recession is the perfect time to travel across an ocean for a show.
I think Patton just wants this to be fun. Not like he’s doing it to cash in (though I’m sure he wouldn’t turn down the money), rather it’ll be a change of pace & a return to straightforward rock. Just one man’s guess. I’m stoked.
Yeah, this whole thing makes me wonder how long is it going to last? Patton has a bunch of other stuff hes working on and this doesnt seem to be his idea. Still, this is good news.
I doubt we’ll get a new album out of this, but hopefully they’ll do an awesome job in Europe and come to the U.S. afterward.
If Jim Martin isn’t there I don’t give a shit about the reunion.
Patton could release an album of Siberian rams passing solids on the windy tundra set to the demo song on a Casio LK30 and his fans would think it was the future of music as we know it.
Of course a reunion is all part of Patton’s big plan – anyone who ‘gets’ what Mike is about already knows this. It’s a statement about just how cool for school he can be. What a maverick.
It’s nothing to do with the money. And nothing to do with Jim Martin. And everything to do with wearing trucker hats when it meant something dangerous. What a man.
Why so bitter about Patton? Well why not? I used to be the drummer in Wolfmother.
Best album was King for a Day… which didn’t include Martin, I hope they get Spruance for this tour, and I hope they eventually come to North America!
While I’m stoked about this reunion, it’s the Mr. Bungle reunion that I’m waiting for…
As cool as it would be, Trey Spruance is probably never going to perform onstage with Patton again, let alone tour with FNM. He’s happy with Secret Chiefs 3 and I doubt he has any desire to reform Mr. Bungle.
Best album was “King for a Day…”!? Insane! That’s the only FNM album I have never owned and have never cared to. Oddly enough I was just checking it out again via Amazon.com’s samples a few hours ago, and I still felt the same about it. Everything else they did I’m a big (if not HUGE) fan of, but that album… nope. To call that their best is just laughable to me.
Best album was “Angel Dust”, hell, that was one of the 10 best albums of the 90s… and Wolfmother blows Siberian rams.
Best was “Angel Dust” and THEN “King for a Day”. My personal opinion of course. I’d rather see Mr.Bungle, but I’ll take FNM any day. They better come to the US.
Blackthorned, the drummer for Wolfmother??
Aw, hug it out man, hug it out, I know it hurts, Wolfmother, what kind of awful luck is that?
;) I guess this is pretty good, truth is it wouldn’t matter what he did, sheep would love it, I’m happy to baa along this time however, at least until he screws up or I don’t care for it.
Word is, that John Hudson (the last guitar player) will be playing
This has given me the biggest boner of my life!

Um, how is this a “reunion” when Patton seems to be the only one participating?
I love the way Ipecac indirectly said it. I would be very surprised if Jim Martin joins them. I think of the people who have played guitar for Faith No More in the past Jon Hudson is most likely to play for them. For some reason I think if Trey Spruance is the going to be the guitarist there would be a Mr. Bungle reunion but that doesn’t seem to be happening.
I’m hoping they come to Australia but also I’m happy for FNM fans in Europe. Although I expect a live DVD and/or CD at the very least! Hehe.
P.S. Glenn: What makes you think that Patton is the only one participating? Although, considering comments he made about an FNM reunion in 2007, it is surprising that he is verbally the most enthusiastic. At least from what we’ve heard.
@Sara: Just this, from the original post: “For that matter, the whole lineup outside of Patton is in question…” Just doesn’t seem very “reunion-ish” if the other guys are random slot-fillers. Time will tell though.
It looks like KFAD-era lineup.
