NEW LACUNA COIL SINGLE: DISCUSS.
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 at 10:32am by Axl RosenbergThanks to our pal Anso at Hipsters Out of Metal! for noticing something we somehow completely missed: there’s a new Lacuna Coil single, “Spellbound.” It’s considerably more of a straight-forward hard rock track than we’ve heard from this band in the past… and I’m honestly not sure right now how I feel about that. One thing I do think (and I’m once again seconding Anso’s sentiments): not enough Christina Scabbia. Does anyone really think people listen to this band because of the other guy? Gimme a break.
Shallow Life, the new album from Christina Scabbia and some other dudes no one cares about, will be released on Century on April 21 (one day earlier in Europe).

When I saw Lacuna Coil at Ozzfest a few years ago Scabbia was wearing this little catholic girl uniform…so hot
I honestly dont get anything out of this band other than looking at her in pictures, she most certainly is something good for the eyes but I just think their music is garbage and I dont really enjoy the kind of thing they do. You wouldnt even hear of this band at all if she was just an average looking girl.
I don’t think discussion is necessary, I mean, Axl pretty much summed up everything about the band, old and new, in one statement.
“the new album from Christina Scabbia and some other dudes no one cares about”.
Reminds me of Evanescence. Zing! lol
Wait a sec, there’s a dude singer in this band!?! Oh yeah.. I actually saw them live, I forgot.
What’s wrong with two singers?
Sincerely,
The Male Nipple
Many a year ago when I saw Lacuna Coil at Ozfest, I remember seeing the male singer guy eating a hot dog sideways like a sandwich.
Those Italians are crrrrrrrrrrrrazy
Even Pro Tools can’t make that guy sing in tune.
I actually like it. Never got into them before, but this is cool.
Ugh, fire that guy already! Christina is the only one that matters
Saw them play after Behemoth and before Nile back in 03′ and they DIDN’T get blown off the stage. They put on a great show…but jesus their music has continued to suck ever since then.
I’ve always wondered why the guys in this band dress like ICP/Disturbed fans.
So hot, want to touch the heinee. Seriously, I can’t even remember what the song sounded like (not like it matters).
This band went incredibly downhill after Unleashed Memories, which I thought was a masterpiece.
All that I really want to discuss is why Mr. braids-in-his-hair still thinks it’s 1996.
If they’d kick the dude out of the band, they’d be pretty decent for a mainstream goth-rock type of band.
!!NEWSFLASH!!
Lacuna Coil has never been anything but a Hard Rock band. The new stuff should not surprise anyone.
I don’t know why, but having more than one lead singer in the band has always annoyed me. It’s because one singer is usually better than the other and I’ll end up preferring one voice over the other. Such is the case with 3 Inches of Blood as well.
I am def a fan of this band I guess. They put on a good live show, Cristina sings as great as she looks. But if this is the best of their new album then no thanks. The “heavyness” doesn’t matter to me, but It sounds like any other song on their last album.
Decent song, I think the male singer should just stick to growls though. His singing is nowhere near good enough to compare with Cristina.
“Spellbound” sounds a lot like Mudvayne’s full length “Lost and Found”. =/
It ain’t as bad as I was expecting it to be.They aren’t horrible, but they just don’t do enough for me to consider myself a fan.
LMAO @ Anonymous Italian Dudes
I find it endlessly amusing that if Axl had instead insulted the band everyone would have jumped on board, it just proves sheep are inescapable.
I don’t know who these guys are, “Goth” rock is not my forte, and the song didn’t leave any kind of lasting impression on me.

I’ll take Nightwish, Within Temptation or even Evanescence over Lacuna Coil any day. Yes, they have Cristina Scabbia, but their songwriting is typical verse-chorus-middle eight with no dynamics at all.
The fact that they’re working with Don Gilmore, who produced the first two Linkin Park albums, says it all.
This song does not impress me.
I like the opening and the first verse, but then it falls apart.
For one thing, Christina Scabbia does not sing enough on this song. I’m sorry but this is her band; she is the main singer. I like Andrea but this is too much.
She should either be singing with him, or be the only one singing in the following verse or versus.
The quitar solo is actually pretty good.
However, even the lyrics are not that strong. All in all it is barely average for them, and not nearly as good as “Heavens A Lie” (though what is?).
I was hoping for something more like “Closer” or “Within Me,” for this album. I quess not.
I really hope this is not one of the strong songs on the album, because otherwise, I might be returning this album if I can get away with doing so.
-Doesn’t this song also sound too Nu-Metal and electronic and not like Lacuna Coil at all?
This sounds like a quest song, like “Set Me Free” with Megadeth, not a Lacuna Coil song.
