Speaking for myself, it’s not even like I hate the band or anything; I honestly don’t know enough about their music to make a judgement one way or the other. Shame on me, I know. There’s only so many hours in the day.
But a lot of you e-mailed us about the news that the band’s guitarist (and, apparently, primary songwriter), Miika Tenkula, has passed away at the age of 34. He obviously meant a lot to you guys and we certainly appreciate that. It’s always a tragedy when someone dies so young, but the fact that we’ve lost a musician whose art obviously touched a lot of people makes the sting that much sharper.
Here’s the band’s video for “Killing Me Killing You.” Hopefully it provides some catharsis for all the Sentenced fans out there…

Sentenced is one of my absolute favorite bands of the last 15 or so years. Completely original and instantly recognizable, two things that most bands never achieve.
The fact that you MS guys don’t know much about Sentenced is shameful in my opinion. Especially seeing what you guys regularly flip out over on this site. Take the time to discover some Sentenced, fellas. It’ll do you some good.
I enjoyed both eras of Sentenced, the more melancholic (not gothic) sound of later years and the blistering death metal sound they started out with. They are a completely unique band as Jason said, and it is a little disheartening that a band like Daylight Dies gets so much publicity around here when they wouldn’t have existed without the pioneering efforts of groups like Katatonia and Sentenced. Rest in peace metal brother.

I tried to get into Sentenced but was not able to. is the song in the video above a good representation of them? I hope they produced better than that.

Rest In Peace Miika, its a true shame.
It happened almost a month ago, but I still can ´t bellieve it…it´s too sad to be true-Miika and Sentenced always meant so much to me and I was so disappointed when I found out that they had broken up…But there was a still a little flame of hope and I wished they could get together…And now, 3 and a half year after their split all hope is dead…Miika was so talented and nice guy and I think I will miss him forever, really!He was too young…I am not able to get trough it…And what is really creepy?He died a day before my name-day!!!I discovered it 2 days after my name-day, so celebrated it as I usually do…But now I won´t be able to celebrate it the way I used to again…Now I´m watching Buried Alive again and my eyes are filled sorrow…:-((
RIP Miika, I wish you got to a much better place…
You and your beautiful will be in our hearts till the end of our lives…Maybe we´ll meet again one day…
