OBEY!

This song has been stuck in my head for a week – I’m not sure why. Maybe they were vamping it at Meshuggah?

Doesn’t matter. Here’s Testament playing “Disciples of the Watch” in Italy in ‘92. I’m sure someone will call me a pussy for saying this, but the intro to this song is so incredibly bad assed that not to play it as part of the live song is fucking criminal. At least play a fuckin’ recording of it like Metallica would, fellas.

Couldn’t agree more, I love the intro. I also love the immense amount of reverb they used with the guitars that made it sound so huge and almost hollow.

I am ashamed to live in a world where Testament is not a bigger band than they are. They are just way to overlooked as is Exodus. On a side note I love Chuck Billy’s sporting of the Freddy Mercury half microphone stand.

Axl, who would call you a pussy for that statement and WHY? Those kinds of intros are more metal than, well, real metal.

  4. Raging Skull says:

Definitely a cool tune. Now that I think about it, people in the audience should have moved around more. It bothers me when people just stand there for such a song.

GOD alex kills that solo. it’s one of my favorite solos..ever

i always wondered why they omitted the intro, too. it’s usually the set closer (like above) or an encore so why not? regardless, it’s always a highlight, especially with alex although i’ve seen others do pretty well with that solo too.

and hey ceth, if we’re talking overlooked with testment and exodus, ya gotta include overkill in there too.

Ahhh the memories…Testament/Slayer tour…LA sports arena Jan.’91…the day the (1st) gulf war started…Chuck Billy did an “Obey” that shook the fuking entire place……Massive!
