FUCK 3 PM: THERE’S A NEW CHIMAIRA SINGLE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW

A big big BIG thanks to MetalSucks Maniacs Cincitucky and Shep, who just brought to my attention that Chimaira have jumped the gun and released a new single, “Secrets of the Dead,” hours before its scheduled release of 3 pm EST today (unless there’s something ELSE cool coming at 3 pm… but I assume this was the big surprise vocalist Mark Hunter promised us).

And hey, guess what? Chimaira didn’t disappoint. Mark Hunter told me when I interviewed him that this album is a little slower than we’re used to from the Cleveland sextet, and he wasn’t lying; this is some pure elephants marching to war shit.

And, as is always the case, the song doesn’t sound quite like anything we’ve heard Chimaira do before. Until a kind of metalcore-ish (but not in a bad way) breakdown at the end, it pretty much takes Chimaira’s death metal influence and pushes it to the forefront; I think it might be the Chimaira song most likely to win over the kinds of close-minded “purists” who usually shun this awesome, awesome band.

I’ll try to post more thoughts when I’ve had a chance to really digest the song. In the meantime, you can buy it for a dollar on iTunes, or just stream it on the band’s MySpace page.

The Infection will be released on April 21.

FUCKING BAD ASS SONG!!! Damn I need this album!

  4. Elpants says:

Eh, I’m going to have to wait for the full album for an opinion on it’s slower approach.

  5. vegard says:

this is the best song i’ve heard from these guys in a long time. used to love this present darkness:)

  6. Cincitucky says:

You’re welcome AR. I found Secrets of the Dead on Youtube, hence the notice that Chimaira posted it on Myspace and made it available through iTunes.

Figured those that need New-Shit-Chimaira-Fix couldn’t wait for 3 o’clock to shoot this up.

  7. Anthony says:

Song is meh on first listen. Not really digging the slowness of this song.

    Maybe it’ll grow on me.

  8. Ryd1ZZ says:

Trying to listen to the song on the myspace and it only plays the first 30 seconds. WTF?

  9. jderle7 says:

I’ve had the same problem with numerous songs on myspace atm Ryd1ZZ….IT’S BULLSHIT!!!

  10. Malacoda says:

    Awesome song.

Is it me, or does his voice sound a little different from previous albums?

  11. WetBiscut says:

Label is what you want — it’s still great.

  12. vitruvianApe says:

fucking killer track, this band has seemingly endless talent boundaries, it does feel a bit like their older shit, present darkness, painting the white to grey era stuff which is great.
Did you happen to se where they’re playing next? desert rock festival in dubai?? sweet that dubai has its own metalfest (with a decent lineup) but who’s gonna go to it? Those two iraqi metal bands and the one rich guy who’s into metal?

  13. RayRay says:

This would be the best song on Wrath. Told you jerks Chimaira rules all. Love the death metal vocals in the middle.

  14. Brutal Jay says:

If you look on the MySpace, the words “pre-order the album now” are there but, distorted. So, my guess is that, at 3 PM today is when they’ll open the gates for pre-orders.

  15. Muzikwhore says:

Good song…..I would not say they rule all. Looking forward to the new stuff. Hope it’s better then Resurrection. That was just a few credits short for me.

  16. iceface says:

sounds pretty badass as usual. I agree with the comments about it sounding like their old stuff on this present darkness. Hunter’ vocals sounds best ever. I was hoping for something a little more along the lines of the self titled disc but i will have to wait and see

  17. Nickweiser says:

i dig marks death metal vocal approach and the creepy tones of the electronics, but other than that im not too sure yet if i can get into the groove driven approach. hmmmm

  18. Daniel says:

    \m/ \m/

  19. b.ware says:

I’d have to say that marks vocals sound worse than the last few cd’s… almost as bad as back in the day when he had a distortion pedal on stage for his mic at shows. he’s always been the weak link for the band, plus he’s quite the dickhead, so why keep him around? just wish they had a better singer, they’d be much further in career if they had a guy with a good scream and the ability to sing without autotune….

  20. spoonz says:

bware- are you nuts? That dude is one of the best metal “singers” I have ever seen live. Nothing on the albums he can’t do live. He absolutely destroys and I’ve met him(from cleveland originally myself) and he was a pretty cool mf’er. Who would you put in his place? just wondering.

  21. Villain says:

Pretty boring song. They aren’t as good as all you guys are making them out to be. Out of all their songs, I can’t honestly say that more than 50 percent of their songs are actually good. Oh well…whatever.

  22. RayRay says:

Villan^-You obviously dont know Chimaira’s music. Its ok your probably a huge Disturbed fan anyways…..gross.

Spoonz^ -THANK YOU! people need to see this band live.

  23. Razorhog says:

This KICKS ASS, can’t wait! \,,/__(-_-)__\,,/

  24. Dan says:

I was expecting something good judging from what everyone said about it, but it was so boring i nearly fell asleep x_X Just as well Daath’s “The Concealers” comes out on the same day, i’ll be content with that.

  25. DannE says:

I was hoping for this song to be more aggressive, it drags a bit too much. It’s hard to judge a whole cd on just one song tho.
