POSTER AND TRAILER FOR THE MOST METAL MOVIE OF 2009

I’ve been invited to several screenings of Anvil: The Story of Anvil, and, rather sadly, I’ve been unable to attend each time. But now that the documentary – which chronicles the lives of an 80s metal band that never quite made it big – has a poster and a trailer, I’m hopeful the announcement of some kind of  release will finally be forthcoming. ‘Cause I hear this movie is the shit – like The Wrestler, but actually about metal, and actually nonfiction.

Trailer after the jump.

I haven’t seen it yet either but I’ve heard awesome things. Kind of funny how out of all of those major bands touring the world in the 80′s is the band from Toronto that gets nowhere. What a suprise.

Fuck, I started tearing up. I GOTTA see this

It’s been out here (UK) for two weeks. I heartily recommend it. The drummers artwork is wort the price of admission alone.

I remember when I was a kid and I would try to get my hands on anything with a remotely metal looking album cover. Anvil’s ‘Pound For Pound’ album was one of those. I think I listened to it once before filing it away, never to be heard again.

That said, this documentary has been getting great buzz for the last few years. My only question is, is everyone laughing AT or WITH them?

“Achingly touching”? That doesn’t sound metal. At least not the way they mean it.

    That looks awesome.

It’s already my DVD of the Year for 2009.

Also, it will be showing twice during SXSW in Austin in less than two weeks. Of course, the nooks at SXSW booked it on the same night (and runover time) as Iron Maiden: Flight 666 and Jucifer. Fuckers!

Oh yeah, and Anvil will be playing a gig at SXSW after the 3/18 screening.

Corey, pay your web host bill. I sent people your way and found out your site is incognito. Also, I purchased your most recent book. Dude, read it in a day; couldn’t put it down; tore me up inside, as well. Tragic story that won’t soon leave my system. A friend of mine (with a daughter) is reading it now. I told her I wasn’t sure she should (I have sons), but she insisted. She could barely get through THE chapter. Well done, my man.

@Sammy: Yeah, I am operating on FrontPage 2000 or some seriously outdated crap and I get ganked on worthless fees for so-called “FrontPage Extensions.” It should be back up later today. Anyone have any suggestions for a decent web publishing software?

Sammy, I’m glad you liked the book and thanks for spreading the word. Now, where’s that Amazon review?!?

  • Sammy

@Corey: Just made a note…will do the Amazon review this weekend.

    Fannypacks.

That’s all I want to say.

I heard about this really late at night on a radio station that was playing a BBC World Service segment all about this documentary. That was enough for me to want to see it. The guys in the band have a bit of a sense of humor as well.

  • Johnny

I’m fucking dying to see this

Amazing! I got to know these guys after totally digging Benediction’s version of “Forged in Fire” [Dark is the Season EP]. Good vibrations.
