Funny too, numerous affiliates refused to show the program, not having seen it at all, on the very basis of this question, “non-normies” aren’t allowed to host suckass variety hours.

Logic: I disagree, the way the question was asked, assuming it was asked as written above and indeed without any kind of tact, made the implication it isn’t okay to host a family oriented variety show if you aren’t some goody two shoes self-righteous douchebag.

I don’t want to see some fucking cardboard cutout of a person faking enjoyment with cheesy monologues and good clean teasing, I don’t necessarily want to see Ozzy throwing fries at people and a bald guy kissing some old gray haired hag(zing Rob Halford’s love life), but given the option between the two I’d pick the latter.

That the interviewer implies that would somehow be “unacceptable” to the viewing public and create controversy that real people would be allowed to host the show instead of adult Jonas Brothers(AKA Hanson), is in itself offensive.

Also, they in no way glorified their addiction related behavior, the show in fact documented the consequences and disappointment shared by family and friends when their behavior was unveiled. Furthermore the only medication Ozzy was on(and will be for the rest of his headbanging days) is for his Parkin Syndrome, the symptoms of which are very similar to Parkinson’s disease, and was the cause of his sometimes violent shaking/tremors before, during, and after the show’s run.

The reaction was way out of line it is perfectly acceptable to ask a question regarding the offensiveness of a family who hid thier addiction through most of thier television career. Thier entire run on MTV was fueled by the children on drugs and Ozzy on an overload of prescribed medication. As I myelf am in recovery i can agree that showing this aspect could be beneficial to many, but you need to understand the drug fueled oversexed tweens of today. The message being put out is do drugs until you are somebody (as we all know good music lives in heroin) then you can kick it, party it up and say good bye. Do I reside on either side of the issue, no, but i think there is a reasonable argueement for or against them, it was completely in line for the question to be asked. Ozzy’s past is his past, he was that person, people can change and it’s great that they do but, if i rape a girl 30 years later can i hang out with your daughter, NO! So why is family entertainment (which would imply rolemodel) ok for your children if the host, bit the heads off of animals publicly, urninated on a national monument, shall i continue? Children know how google works, so if a controversial family (not just drugs) is the topic of the day they will know all about the person. So fuck Sharon Ozbourne and her shit don’t stink attitude, if you want to keep whoring out to the media you need to accept they will ask questions that aren’t the nicest, but if they are relevent come down off your cunt cloud and give an answer not a hissy fit, thats exactly why your dumb ass is seen as controversial in the first place.

Even if the reporter did ask the question in a matter that they would coz controversy due to their drugness past, that shouldn’t be an offensive question, ozzy and her did some stupid shit, if am not mistaken (throwing eggs at a respectable band for the least of examples) and a question such as this one shouldn’t coz her to flip out like a crazy old hag … there are so many people that where a bit stunned about the osbournes having a variety show (which is one of the gayest ideas since their reality show) so asking such a question shouldn’t come as a surprise … wasnt being irresponsibly stupid one of their popular gimmicks ?

Rev – do we know if the reported actually said, “given that it’s supposed to be a family-friendly show, and pretty much every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction at some point”? Given the wording, I assumed that was something tossed in by the editor in order to clarify why the question would have been asked, not the actual words of the reporter.

They can’t be family friendly? What the fuck is this? Leave it to Beaver? Family friendly is The Simpsons and Family Guy these days, and I somehow doubt they’ll be anymore offensive than that, so it’s a qualifier that I find disparaging in it’s assumption.

@Revrant: I still respectfully disagree. The first thought on the mind of probably 85% of everyone who’s seen the advert for this show is, “What? The Osbornes on a variety show?” And why would people be asking that? Because it’s the Osbornes on a variety show. That market has been historically captured by the Donny & Marie types. The very crux of the question is the first part “will it attract controversy”. Yes, he or she asked it with a qualifier, but he/she did not make a disparaging statement regarding addiction. I’m not saying it was a good question; just not bad enough to warrant a bitchy rave-out.
