SUICIDE SILENCE WANT YOU TO WAKE THE FUCK UP

MetalSucks Maniac Gaston Ayala sent us the below clip of Suicide Silence performing a new song, “Wake Up,” this past Friday night (March 27) at the Marquee in Phoenix, where they were opening up for Carcass. It’s obviously not a high quality clip, but as far as I can tell, it pretty much sounds like Suicide Silence – depending on your viewpoint, that might be a good thing or a bad thing.

The song comes off the band’s new album, No Time to Bleed, which will be out later this year on Century. You can check out another lo-fi clip of a new song, “Vile Creation,” here.

Meanwhile, someone told me recently that bassist Mike Bodkins is apparently out of the band. I never saw a statement, but, indeed, the very nice Mr. Bodkins is now missing from the band’s MySpace page, and Wikipedia lists some dude named Dan Kenny as the band’s current bassist. I have no idea what the story is there, but if you’re feeling nostalgic about Bodkins, you can read the interview we conducted with him last summer right here.

    I can’t stand when bands say shit like “wake the fuck up” or “come on, get into it.” If your live performance is worth an energetic, positive reaction you won’t have to ask.

    I saw these clowns when they opened for Carcass in Mokena. They were one of the worst bands I’ve ever had the misfortune to see live. Absolutely terrible on every level, it’s dipshits like this that make people laugh at metal.

      dude i went to that same exact show, at the pearl room! yeah they suck. all the kids at my school who like “metal” like deathcore/metalcore bands. im the only kid who listens to the real metal like carcass, entombed, autopsy etc. suicide shitface dosent deserve to tour with legendary bands like carcass.

    Ugghh, they aren’t death metal. Not at all. Not in the least. Just another mallcore band that overheard a Suffocation album one day and said “Hey, we should rip these guys off and make some bank.” Feel free to look up Pierced from Within if you have any doubts.

    Sounds like all their other songs. These guys are the epitome of generic deathcore.
    The chant doesn’t help either.

    deathcore as a genre I dont dislike, in fact I think some deathcore bands such as Animosity, All Shall Perish, As Blood Runs Black(although it seems they suck balls live) write pretty good shit, like when ASP put out Awaken The Dreamer they put a whole new dimension to their music. But it’s band like SS (and 90% of the deathcore genre) that give the genre “openingdown-versedown-bridgedown-whateverjustdownitdown” tag. Their song structure is pretty much writing the song around a breakdown, it’s almost like the chorus or verse is just waiting time till the breakdown.

    And oh yeah, being a vocalist myself, I knowing a “cupper” when I see one. This dude has no low growls, he cups on almost every thing low and all the piq squeals. I mean I’m not against cupping but come on, he’s doing it every fucking time. Has nobody told him yet or are they too busy waking up or something

    ‘Deathcore’ has become trendy, seems like the skinny one eye covered skinny jean piss ants have moved from ‘emo’ to deathcore. Which is a shame really, I happen to enjoy some deathcore bands, SS isn’t too bad, but I understand why people hate them. Deathcore bands usually are pretty generic, I can think of good deathcore bands, but none that really make a super impact on music. It seems like if you put a “core” at the end its cool. (deathcore, metalcore, mathcore, popcore, hell i’ve even heard rapcore…sigh) I think if deathcore wasn’t so trendy i would be more open to saying i enjoy it.

    Like Tim above, I too had the displeasure of having to sit through this shitty band in Mokena, IL at the Carcass show. I held an empty plastic cup of beer until their set was over because I knew that if I got another one I would have thrown it at the fucking stage……and waste $5.00 on them.

    I like this band. Every song on their debut album is good and the breakdowns didnt bore me. They do a different type of breakdown every song and they do have their own sound. Mitch’s combination of highs and lows are excellent and I think that most lows sound silly and tough guy, but not this band.

    Alot of death metal, and hardcore bands bore the crap out of me but not these guys. Give them a try. Who cares who likes them or what genre you think their in. They have good grooves and are heavy.

    I gave this band a “chance” back when they first came out. I used to be into them kind of. But then, they just got so boring, lame and generic on their first full-length and I just lost all interest. This band is now a typical generic deathcore band. I should have realized this back when they first came out. At least some deathcore bands are changing it up, like All Shall Perish.

    I think the problem here isn’t that all you haters DO NOT have your heads up your asses. I think it’s that you prefer other kinds of Metal and their derivatives. Whereas I consume as much Death Metal and Deathcore as I possibly can, boring to some, I just can’t get enough. When you love a sound you just want more of it and that’s how I feel.

    One thing you cannot say about these guys is that they are in any way “Emo” or “Scene”. If you read they’re lyrics you can feel the hatred that they have for people in general, specifically suicidal asswipes. The only thing you can honestly call these guys is “Shitty” which you are absolutely welcome to. Just as I am welcome to call other bands you call dear to your heart shitty. I.E. Nachtymisium (However you spell it), Dir En Grey (Yuck), Protest The Hero, Buried Inside, Etc…

    Beastmaster- You make good points. I personally still listen to SS album not because they are the greatest band on earth but strictly because I want to smash heads when I hear it. Listen to “Bludgened to death” before lifting at the gym and tell me you are not motivated. Nachtymisium is terrible. I dont give a flying rats ass if they sound different from everyone they suck.

    I agree with most of the shit put on this website and I check it daily but some of these bands are just not good. Can someone please enlighten me on why Mastodon is so big? Brett Hinds voice is awful and annoys the fuck out of me.

    Oh yeah Deathcore is real trendy, just look at all the people who love it on this site ; )What makes me laugh is people think that Death metal = Technicality, and it really deasn’t, listen to Obituary and you’ll get what im saying. Not every band can be Opeth, some bands are just about ripping your face off, and Suicide Silence are pretty successfull at doing so. I saw them at Infest last year and they were great. If we cant embrace difference then how can we evolve?

    rayray & THE CARL are fucking right. Deathcore is starting to be less popular with the Scenie-Weenies as they are finally getting the genre the deserve… The dreaded “Screamo-Crunk”… It was just something “X-Treme!!!” for them to latch onto for the moment. Hopefully now people can get past some of the douchebags who like them and just appreciate the bands for their music. I don’t chastise Unleashed or Testament for some of the weirdos that come to their concerts. And have they got some freaks! Eesh.

    And while we’re on the subject of appreciating the music, I think alot of the younger Metalheads like myself have been subjected to this music first and have just developed an ear for it. Don’t get me wrong I love nearly all kinds of Metal, obscure and popular. But I’ll be damned if I don’t love the pummeling and brutal rythms of Death Metal/Deathcore. I’m sure someone hates me for this, but I LOVE breakdowns. IF they’re done right. It’s kind of why I like sludgy Metal, it just slows it down and makes you want to headbang someone to death.

    What a horrible band. I heard them for the first time at the Carcass show…godamn, it was nothing but breakdowns. If you looked around, all the guys in Suicide Silence shirts who didn’t look like they listen to metal at all were ROCKING OUT….everyone else looked bored out of their minds. Samael should have played after these guys.

    I don’t understand why a band like Suicide Silence get the privlage to play with icons of death metal like Carcass and Suffocation when everyone sees through them and the ridiculous music they play. This has got to be the most manufactured ‘N Sync of deathcore/deathmetal I’ve ever heard and I’m not one that usualy crys about how fake the deathcore genre is. I actualy think some of those bands are pretty good(Whitechapel,All Shall Parish) but I just can’t find anything that SS plays thats worth an ear. I really didn’t give a damn at first but when they start opening for Suffocation,thats just fuckin’ backwards! What ever happened to respecting your elders?

    Maybe people forget that the guys in this band are super young! Most of you fucks dream of becoming what they are . You sit in your rehearsal space and dream about being able to make money with your music and be able to share what you love with others.
    So here’s a band that fuckin is SO young , does their thing, gets a fan base and becomes “famous”, gets signed and is able to tour the world with metal icons…. and instead of being happy for them you get jealous and your envy is eating you fucks up… in fact so much, that you have nothing better to do than come up with generic phrases like “emo” and “orange county fags”
    Well guess what… those ‘fags’ fucking deserve to be on tour with great metal bands because instead of sitting in the rehearsal space and hating the world and going nowhere they actually did something right…. and now you are the ones buying their shit secretly and hiding it under your mattress so your “cool” friends don’t see that you are secretly into them just for pure pleasure.

    Grow the fuck up.

    Well, Suicide Silence is one of the best deathcore bands out there.. The rest are Whitechapel and Thy Art Is Murder. They’re so fuckin’d they’ll rip your head in an instance…
    Just watch their performance at Mayhem Festival. Opened with UNANSWERED and continued by BLUDGEONED TO DEATH… They really rocked..
    And as for breakdowns, what’s wrong with it?
    Even Trevor Strnad from The Black Dahlia Murder said that breakdowns were the big thing for any metal bands in this decade..
    So… Breakdowns = love…
