SHITTY BOOTLEG SUGGESTS THAT NEW KSE WILL SOUND MORE OR LESS LIKE OLD KSE
Monday, April 6th, 2009 at 10:19am by Axl RosenbergAnd I don’t mean that as a knock against Killswitch Engage; I don’t think it’s any secret that Vince and myself are both huge fans of this band. But those lo-fi, fan-captured footage of the band performing a new song recently while on the Music as a Weapon tour suggests that their new, still-untitled, Brendan O’Brien-produced album will not be a radical reinvention of their sound.
Then again, what do I know? This isn’t a high quality clip, it’s not the whole song, and I suppose it’s entirely possible the new album will be all industrial, or acoustic, or feature lotsa hip-hop inspired phat beats. But somehow I doubt it…
Killswitch Engage’s latest album drops June 23 on Roadrunner.

Thanks to MetalSucks Maniac Byron Ward for the tip!

Wow, that awesome crowd looked really into it.
wow, sounds very Maiden-esque which is always a good thing
Sounds catchy and pretty awesome!
Zero stage presence. One of the most utterly lifeless live acts I’ve ever seen.
Gawd I love their guitar tone!
Riffing sounds like total In Flames ripoff from the “Colony” / “Clayman” days.
Their formula has been getting too old already.
Awesome guitar tone though.
who cares if it sounds like an inflames riff, everyone steals from everyone. the new song sounds kickass, even with the shitty quality.
@Alcapwn89: ok let me be more precise : it sounds like an inflames ripoff, in a bad way, like “sounds like in flames but in uninspired and boring way” instead of “being influenced by inflames and kicking ass way”.
To me this song seems boring. The band sounded much more exciting to me during the Jesse Leach/Alive or just breathing era. Now they sound like a parody of themselves IMO, even if they got bigger, tighter and more professional as a band.
Yup. Sounds like they are picking up right where ‘As Daylight Dies’ left off. Sigh. Well, I can always throw on ‘Alive or Just Breathing’ and wonder what might have been.
Jeez that was boring. I’ve never seen KSE live before but from this and other videos I’ve seen, I’m tempted to agree with Sven that they are incredibly lifeless. Somebody needs to bring life to lifeless.
Alive or Just Breathing was awesome, the next OK and As Daylight Dies was crap. And its not Howard Jones’s fault I don’t think. I mean I heard Jesse Leach live recently and his vocals where nowhere near Howard’s.
However, the songwriting on Alive or Just Breathing was awesome and original. Then for some reason the band seemed to fall into generic metalcore territory after that…
i saw them live in 07, i thought they were awesome live. great stage presence, that video seems weird to me because they do look lifeless. hopefully they were just having an off/lazy night…
…and while i think Daylight Dies is a very good album, i agree that if this new song is any indication of how the rest of the album sounds (and lets be honest, it probably is. its KSE) then the only thing im dissapointed in is how little they have progressed from heartache>daylight>new album.
I dont think there “generic metalcore” though, there songwriting is still great, riffs are catchy, and they are ridiculously tight instrumental wise. I clear step above other shitty “LOL METALCORE” bands.
Obviously they werent moving around much cause it was their first time playing a new song live…
And I’ve heard that the new record wont sound anything like ‘daylight’.
yes yes yes yes
@cink: if thats true, then I’m glad. Like I said before, I think heartache and daylight are very good albums, but they sound almost exactly the same. It would be nice of they progressed a little in there sound.
So, since “As Daylight Dies” sounded like “End of Heartache 1.5″ I guess this would be “End of Heartache 2.0″ with new artwork and more remixing?
They need to stop beating a dead horse and learn how to play something else.
Nearly all the US bands have kinda NWOSDM influences. It’s not “steal”.
Count the days until new album comes out. :)
This version is better:

I saw them on saturday. This song was a nice surprise, definitely didn’t sound like early KsE to me. Looking forward to the album.
