I’m glad you guys and girls are enjoying our current Chimaira contest. I’d like to give a special shout out to Matt Wixson, who entered 67 times in 24 minutes. So, y’know, that dude really likes Chimaira.

I’m sure Matt is super excited about the fact that the band’s new album, The Infection, is now streaming in its entirety. Listen to it here. Then come back and let us know what you think!

Wait… if you submit more then one email it will boost your chances of winning the contest?

    • ozzyzak

Yes, I must admit, this reveal intrigues me.

      • Colin

He said he entered that many times, but I don’t think it increases his chances…

        • http://www.metalsucks.net Axl Rosenberg

Since I have since marked him as spam, it drastically decreases his chances.

Being annoying won’t win you contests.

          • http://www.formulafiction.com Dr Tizzle

            This is almost unreadable

  • bearbomb

I suspect due to his undying love for Chimaira, this Matt Wixson will be invited to write for MS in the coming days.

Listened to the stream. Good, not great. Hoping the actual CD sounds better… with headphones on… turned up to 11.

  • Colin

The new cd is awesome! It’s different but I love it so far. I really like coming alive and disappearing sun, but really, they’ve all been amazing so far!!

the beginning of the venom inside instantly reminded me of the intro to “this present darkness” which had some pretty cool atmospheric moments i thought (but, then again, i was about 16 at the time)

  • Nate L.

Very good so far– takes the best part of Self-Titled + Resurrection.

“Coming Alive” and “Secrets of the Dead” are early favorites so far…

    • Colin

Yeah, my favorites so far as well.

  • Mike

Ugh, this sucks. They showed some promise a few albums ago but this by-the-numbers metal is bringing down the genre almost as much as Lamb of God is.

    • Jewers1992

just because you don’t like doesn’t mean it’s by the numbers…Get over yourself and go listen to some shitty band that you think is epic just because no one has ever heard of them

  • Sammy

    “Available at Target for $8.99.”

Where are the cries of “sellout” and “evil capitalism”?

  • http://myspace.com/biosyn teaches of peaches

This Chimaira glorification is even worse than God Forbid.

  • Ryan

I don’t quite know why you guys hate on these guys so much. They really like the band, so why is it so bad that they give them some publicity. If you had a large audience of people, why not promote a band that you like and thinks deserves the attention? As for the album, I think its awesome, but a little separated and awkward at parts.

  • Kye

    Droning

That’s the only word I can think of to describe it. I’ve never thought this about a cd, but I literally thought it was just one long, unchanging song.

  • Sammy

@Kye: I agree. “Droning” works. “Lacking any dynamics” also. How about “generic”?

  • Mike

    Metal-by-numbers…cookie cookie cookie!

    • wata

      KTTY!

  • Uglymicrowave

I got a version of the cd already and its fucking great defintly one of the heavier cds…but u can tell they didn’t put any special treatment into it…more like “ok its been two years time to write a record for our record contract”….there one of my favorite bands these days….too many bands let me down…and chimaira is one band that hasn’t let me down…but this is not there best….

  • b

its very boring, and i cant remember any of the riffs… which is rare… it just seems like a big pile of meh.

  • Johnny Death

Think i’ll wait til saturday night to make my opinion of the new stuff. THe debate is still up whether to sit through Disturbed though

  • Walker

What would that whole intro feeling (like band taking the stage music) and then THE VENOM INSIDE (start killing people part) be actually called. Lots of bands do this. It only works as a opening track, and could only be played as the first song of a show. Is their a term for this type of song. Its either the first song or an encore, if it showed up in the middle of the set it wouldnt have the same effect. The reason I say this is because I cant wait for this band to headline again. Cause that opening to Venom Inside is fucking awesome and can not wait to see it live. Also cant wait to hear the instrumental final track

  • RayRay

You all have to give this band props. They completely defied what every other heavy band is doing. Sounding more mainstream. There is not one track on this album that will be on any radio station besides Sirius. They made a fucking heavy as nails album and didnt give a shit what anyone thinks. How many of your favorite bands can say this? I appreciate them getting into some death metal vocals/riffs and Mark’s voice sounds about evil as you can get. Album version will sound better than shitty myspace.

  • Colin

I don’t know why everyone is calling this boring. It does take a couple listens to get into it, but there are some amazing riffs and awesome parts. Seriously, give it a chance.

  • Dani

wow…droning is a good way to describe this. I really like Chimaira and their style, but this album is just bland and boring. Im pretty sure they use the same drum beat throughout most of the album, which is the basic elephant marching type thing which is apparently meant to be heavy. Not memorable at all, and very uninspiring. How can the six members of the band all agree this was their best?
    Dissapointing :(
