SOMEBODY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT THE DUDE FROM MELECHESH?
Friday, April 17th, 2009 at 2:00pm by Axl RosenbergIsraeli (but not Jewish!) outfit Melechesh might be one of the most underrated bands in metal today – I feel like I rarely hear people talking about them, but their last album, Emissaries, was a fucking beast.
So I’m kind of surprised that someone has made a documentary about main man Ashmedi (who has also been doing some guest blogs for The Deciblog). It just seems like the band’s lack of fame would make this a hard sell, when I imagine making back any money invested in metal documentaries that don’t star Metallica is already an uphill battle.
But I’m now officially really, really curious to see this thing – and if it gets some of you to listen to Melechesh, all the better.

Awesome band, awesome teaser. Hopefully the Absu connections (Proscriptor was playing with them for a while) will help Melechesh out. Between this doc and Heavy Metal in Baghdad, metal from the fertile crescent is finally getting some attention!
Yep, I can’t help but be reminded of Acrissicauda in Heavy Metal in Baghdad, which is fucking excellent by the way. For anyone who has seen it, be sure to check out the Youtube clip of James Hetfield giving the boys of Acrissicauda a signed guitar, it’s the perfect ending to the doc.
No idea what this is about, but my interest is piqued. I assume that was their music in the background? Sounded good.
MELECHESH is one ov my fav bands at the moment. They’re original, brootal and brought the middle eastern sound to Metal. FUCKEN AWESOME BAND! I wish they would come to the States and tour with ABSU. That would be a killer fucken show.
A non-Jewish Israeli? Isn’t that like a non-obnoxious prick New Yorker? I kid! I kid!!
These guys are a top notch band and this movie looks like it will be pretty cool.
Melechesh is good stuff. Nice to see them getting some exposure. I can’t imagine it’s been easy for them living in such a religious, repressed society.
Solid band. Highly enjoyable stuff.I think these dudes re-located to the Neatherlands a while back. I think it was due to taking a lot of crap from ultra religous types in their homeland. Also, is it just me or does the clip look like it was produced by Sam Dunn?
so why did it have to be explicitly stated that they aren’t jewish?
Melechesh = very, very good…very, very underrated.
