HOW DID I NOT WRITE ABOUT THIS ON 4/20?

At some point late yesterday afternoon I smacked myself in the forehead and gave a postively Homerian cry of “D’oh!” as I realized that I had completely forgotten to give a listen to the new Suicide Silence song, “Lifted,” which is currently streaming on the group’s MySpace page.

And that’s why you shouldn’t smoke so much pot, kids.

So. “Lifted.” Alright, let’s talk about this bitch!

I think it’s important for Suicide Silence to show some musical progression from The Cleansing. That’s how they’re going to prove they’re not just part of a passing trend. The Job for a Cowboy of Genesis doesn’t sound exactly like the Job for a Cowboy of Doom, right? And I think that fact has been a part of that band’s continued success.

And, hey, lookit that, “Lifted” doesn’t sound exactly like the material from The Cleansing, neither! Granted, it’s not a ginormous departure – no need to alienate your fan base, after all – but I’ll be damned if this doesn’t have more textures and flavors to it than the simple blunt force trauma of, say, “Unanswered” (Did producer Machine have something to do with this? He certainly managed to divide Lamb of God fans by pulling a similar trick with Sacrament, an album I happen to love.).

I’m really digging that shit with the spaced out guitars, and then the swirling lead at the end… yes, this is a good song to call “Lifted,” and good song to enjoy over a nice full bowl. And it makes me really intrigued to hear the rest of the band’s new album, No Time to Bleed, which Century will release on June 30.

Now go listen for yourself and then come back and tell me why I’m right and Suicide Silence rock, or why I’m wrong and they suck.

  • Uglymicrowave

to me this was the first “wiggercore/deathcore/whatevcore” band to come out of the scene….these guys better step it up on there next album for real, the cleansing was great listen but got old quick.. i think lifted is a good start and hope the rest of the album sounds similar…i agree with you axl, i hope they prove themselves and aren’t just a passing trend…they put on a helluva show if you can see over the furry hoods and fiited new era caps…

  • alex

that song would be alot better without the damn sweeps

  • Noel

Id listen, but you can tell they suck based on the picture…I dont normally judge by the pic, but come on..look at those fuckin twats…

  • DemonicLemming

Meh, just more generic myspace metal shit.

  • Blackthorned

I thought the guy at the front was wearing a brightly coloured jumper but now I see! Oh, I’m too old for this music aren’t I.

  • Sin and Death

Methinks it sound like Machine Head…

  • http://kniifeprrty.com Kniife Prrty

Might be the most air-brushed picture I’ve seen in a while. The band almost look like a group of mannequins.

  • bearbomb

And what about the dude in the back? He’s giving us the finger!!!! I will NOT fuck with these guys.

  • http://www.radiofaction.com JasonEllisFan

Quite possibly the best young metal band anywhere. Can’t wait to hear the full length!!!

  • major

i dunno that pretty much sucked asshole, but i guess if i was a 16 year old girl that shit would’ve been pretty fucking brutal

  • ryan

i don’t think this band has much to say, that’s all. all the original sounds they will ever think of could have been put into one badasss song and then they could’ve quit and saved us a bunch of time.

    • Sandwiches

Agreed. Fuck this band. This whole genre needs to be over

      • Will D

        WOW. Stupid.

What about Winds of Plague and All Shall Perish. All Shall Perish is one of the best bands in the entire metal scene today. Those guys are on a completely different level than Suicide Silence. Its agreed that SS is just a bunch of punks who wanted to play really heavy music and smoke, but to dismiss the whole genre is lame.

Oh yeah, and Whitechapel isn’t bad either. Actually they’re pretty damn good. So there are three bands (reasons) why you shouldn’t cast aside deathcore.

        • Rob

I have to agree and disagree because I feel that SS puts on a better show than all of those bands. However, I definitely agree that All Shall Perish is the best on the scene. Suicide Silence is noisy at times, I’ll give you that. But they are staying true to their style. If they lighten up and play more melodic shit, all of the people on this forum who are dissing them will just call them sellouts. There’s always ways to criticize, but I think they’ve improved a lot judging from this song. Keep in mind, they are still really young. They have a lot of time to develop musically. This new song keeps their traditional brutality but throws some great melodic riffs in there (i.e. the verse riff). As for the other guy who said you could tell they suck based on the way they look: Fuck you.

  • gnarlk

okay everybody look hard for the camera then it’s off to starbucks for frappés…

  • Colin

They’re riding a trend and will have to change quite a bit more if they’re going to tuck and roll before the trend dies.

  • http://www.myspace.com/orchids Daisy May Tinklepants

they are part of a passing trend

    fucking weak

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

Seriously? A song that good and you fucks are worried about the fuckin’ band picture? Get a fuckin’ clue, man. Heard the song. I liked it. Saw the picture. Didn’t give a fuck about it.

  • Patrick

This song is very good. I actually think that S.S. has created their own sound, for the most part and stick to it. I don’t think that Job For A Cowboy, Whitechpale, All Shall Perish or anybody sound like these guys. I love this band and this song sounds like everything from “The Cleansing” in one song. The haunting intro and bridge break is way different for the band.

I’m really excited for their new album.

  • Kevin

    Getting better I must say…

  • knightsoftheabyss

    Suicide SIlence is fucking amazing.

And btw, thats not a shirt Mitch is wearing. Those are tats.

Great song, the album is gonna be sick.

    Quit hating people.

    • B-dizzle

      Suicide Silence is mediocre

      Nobody cares about his tattoos

      Mediocre song

      Quit loving them

  • THE CARL

SOOOO basically you people are against trends but cant stop talking about the way they look?

    ~ HYPOCRITE ALERT ~

Patrick is absolutely right, SS totally have their own unique sound and Axl is right that they are staying to that sound but totally progressing. Cant wait for the album!

    • DemonicLemming

Unique. Right. Just like every other fucking myspace “hardcore” metal band that’s come out over the past two years.

      • THE CARL

Well you know “DL” if I may call you that. The genre might not be so unique compared to the indeed dozens of copy cat bands, but when I say unique I mean, when an SS song comes on, within the first few seconds it is undenyable that it is indeed Suicide Silence, and not difficult to distinguish them from the other ilk.

  • Joe

    I like the picture.

    Suicide Silence is great too.

  • Joe

I love how when I saw these guys that CGI-looking motherfucker above said “here’s some more new shit!” and I literally counted down in seconds the time it took for him to get on top of his “mosh box” or whatever the fuck that was and start doing his breakdown calisthenics. Because I had seen and heard the same goddamn thing five times already.

But their fans provided unintentional hilarity with their dopey antics, so I guess it wasn’t so bad. “Look at the widdle deathcore guy, he’s so angwee he apparently wants someone to shoot him or herself!”

  • EarthIsGay

I love these dudes crushing ass breakdowns. They might not be the most creative band in the world but sometimes it’s good to just smash your ears in the balls with a hammer.

  • Kye

Better than everything they’ve ever done.

That said, it still just sounds like a bunch of kids playing an immature version of death metal.

  • PD

It’s a shame Dead to Fall are broken up. Are You Serious? crushes this band, hands down. “Lifted” sounds pretty much exactly the same as all their other stuff. Chug chug chug, let’s sound like All Shall Perish for a minute, chug chug chug,

At least Mastodon and Between the Buried and Me are still around.

  • Patrick

The amount of hate that I read everyday about bands is ridiculous. Most bands play a certain style of music, bottomline. Yes, this band didn’t reinvent the wheel but you can say that about almost every band on the planet.

I don’t care if this is trendy, or if this is popular to certain age groups, demographics, etc.
I like heavy music and like their shirts say, “Bringing back the headbang” is what these guys do.

So yes, they play a popular style of music but if you really listen you can hear alot of different influences and once you hear a SS song you know it’s them.

I dont care what these guys do for fun, what label they are on, what shows they play, etc.

I like the music because it sounds good to my ears.

  • bombs away

I don’t think there’s a need to hate on em that much, I think they need a lot of work on their songwriting skills(way too breakdown oriented, gets old REALLY quickly), but basically this is a band that is there for the times you just wanna smash some shit, then turn off after two random songs. They do that well, but if you want a good metal ALBUM you shouldn’t be looking for them,

  • derek

i think suicide silence is one few good deathcore bands out there along with whitechapel, all shall perish, ect…. SS gets hated on too much in my opinion.

  • rob-209

this is metal for the people that use the bumpers on their bowling lane so they wont get a gutterball, pussy shit.stop the gutterball metal

  • Clitty Breadmaker

You’d think it would be a good thing, heavy music becoming more popular and easy to find.

  • ofekk

    great song…the breakdown was a little weak…
cant wait for their new album

  • umyeah

I dig suicide silence. I just wish all the little kids walking around city beach with suicide silence shirts would go listen to some morbid angel or death or something and get some perspective happening.

  • Vlad

You know, I thought Suicide Silence sucked at first but it grew on me a little bit. The Cleansing was still somewhat of a boring listen though. However, this new one is showing a lot of hope. I’ll be returning to these guys.

  • DecrystallizingReason

These guys put on one of the lamest live shows I have ever seen. Choreographed headbanging and lame-ass poses, plus all the songs sound the same.

  • Matthew Grant Anson

I think if those tattoos were on a shirt I’d buy it. Be a good looking shirt.
