DO YE LIKE VOLBEAT?

Monday, April 27th, 2009 at 1:01pm by

Lots of people have emailed us about Denmark’s rockabilly metallers Volbeat over the past several months, and lots of folks have told me in person how much they adore this band. I guess I think they’re pretty cool, though I certainly ain’t wowed, and this is the kind of band that perhaps is best appreciated live in concert.

Here’s their video for “Maybellene i Hofteholder” from the Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood record which came out last year.

What does the MetalSucks Haterade Mafia think of Volbeat?

I dig it, it is nothing amazing, but not everything needs to be

They kinda suck. Not horribly horrible musicianshipwise, just pretty damn boring. Cool video though. I’ll pass.

  • American Hate

Nothing new, but still great shit. Boring my ass.

  • Uglymicrowave

musically tallented….just not the sound for me…shit blows…more of a punkrock vibe

  • bearbomb

Would be a good band for the Warped Tour if the Warped Tour wasn’t so insistent upon having the same fucking bands every year since 2001. Fucking Warped Tour.

  • Face

    This isn’t metal.

That’s what I thought. They called them Rockabilly Metallers, but I fail to see the metal part.

  • Eric

Their song Hallelujah Goat is more metal than this one. I do like their fusion of rockabilly with modern rock and metal.

  • ashley

I cannot condone the mixing of metal with anything containing “-billy” in the name. Not a fan.

    • Nate L.

      hahahah i agree, good point.

  • Double D

Sounds like something 2004-era Misfits would put out.

    • Damotello

      My thoughts exactly.

  • RotAndOrRoll

I can see how most metal fans would be turned off if this song was their first exposure. They have some “radio singles” , but also some great heavy songs. Go to YouTube and check these out.

    - You or Them
    - Mr. and Mrs. Ness
    - Fire Song
    - Wild Rover of Hell
    - Danny and Lucy
    - Still Counting
    - The Human Instrument
    - Always Wu

I’ll be attending Nightwish in about a week but only to see Volbeat.

I found it kinda funny that they covered Dusty Springfield:

    Other than that, no thanks.

Didn’t think they were too bad…. they tend to strike me as a background music kinda band…
I thought their release Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood was ok.. definitely tolerable if I’m in the right mood…

  • patochan

Reggae Danzig. The worst parts of Reggae and Danzig.

  • groverXIII

Definitely getting a Danzig vibe from it… I wasn’t especially impressed, certainly not enough to make me check them out.

And I rather enjoy some good psychobilly now and then… Koffin Kats, Nekromantix, The Creepshow… stuff like that.

I’ve had a raging hard-on for these guys for the past 6 months. Love em. They are on heavy rotation all the time in my car. Unfortunately the US tour they are on right now only has a few dates and they are playing at very random spots it seems. Which sucks, because I’d love to see them live.

  • pokesmot

they are good band.I got all there CD’s there older stuff is pretty heavy

    • Adamb203

Nice grasp of the English language.

  • metalstinks

metalsucks haterade mafia needs to be official

    • ashley

      we should get patches.

  • Special Agent Bob

Listen to the rest of these dudes’ tunes. Good stuff. Way better than this. Plenty of metal, country, punk, and rock mixed into one band.

  • Steve

Good stuff, give them a chance. I was turned off by some of the singles as well.

  • RayRay

sounds like good beer drankin metal to me. good change of pace from the norm

  • PaxlRose

If they were an American band, they’d probably be played between Shinedown and Nickleback on crappy rock radio.

  • unlucky 13

the album sucks, the two past albums are pretty good

  • frostilucus

    Absolute garbage.

If you want real metal infused psychobilly, check out the Strikers: http://www.myspace.com/thestrikers

  • shuggah

They’re really big over here in europe, and I think this is a band who really deserves their fame. And they really bring it live!

  • Che Guitarra

I can see the metal influence, but sounds closer to a punk rockabilly think. Very tight sounding, I imagine they would have a good energy live. I like it.

rock-a-billy metal? More like pop pablum with a plastic razor edge.

  • Chris Berseth

I like them. I don’t want to say that they’re really original, but they do stand out from most of the other bands that are currently out there.

  • Mesh

I love rockabilly and this aint it.

  • eoin

a great band, ive there 3 albums and dvd. classic metal
