THE AUTUMN OFFERING READY THEIR REQUIEM
Monday, April 27th, 2009 at 10:14am by Axl RosenbergSo here’s a good story for you: way back in October of ‘07, when MetalSucks wasn’t even a year old yet, I wrote a pretty miserable review (to put it mildly) for The Autumn Offering’s Fear Will Cast No Shadow. Cut ahead to last month, and The Autumn Offering vocalist Matt McChesney actually e-mails me to say he likes our site and he’s bummed about the negative review. And then we had a completely calm, casual, and intelligent exchange about said review. So even if you hate The Autumn Offering, you gotta give McChesney props for being so chill about the whole thing. We’ve certainly encountered bands that did not look upon us so favorably after we said terrible things about them.
Now The Autumn Offering have a new album coming out on June 9, Requiem. McChesney has let me hear one song off of it, and I gotta say, it is a huge step in the right direction. Will the whole album be good? I honestly don’t know. But I’m certainly gonna give this band another chance.
Here’s a teaser for Requiem… we’ll have a full interview with McChesney – and another nice surprise from the band – a little later this week.

Wow kudos to McChesney. Also, yes the new song is a “step in the right direction” but I’m still not a fan– it does little more for me than All That Remains does…
More run of the mill metalcore. No thanks.
mmm true… they are fairly run of the mill metalcore i guess. arguing the opposing case would be difficult. but somehow i find them more compelling than the rest.
upon hearing this clip i don’t see how this is a ’step in the right direction’. i don’t really hear a step….to me it sounds like it couldve come from ‘fear will cast no shadow’. doesnt bother me as i thought that record was adequately satisfactory.
re the spelling of ‘autumn’ in the tag – you managed to spell a bastard of a name like matt’s surname, but stumbled on the season!
if you heard the first two albums, then the third, THEN this song, youd know what he ment
Seriously when will this trend die????
McChesney should have stayed in Hell Within, who blew these boring bastards out of the water.
their first was album was great, but once the new lead vocalist came in they fucking sucked. I couldn’t get past the first 15 seconds of this clip before I had to turn it off. I won’t even illegally download this pile of shit!
I like The Autumn Offering. ‘fear will cast no shadow’ was a good album. But ‘Reqiuem” will be better. And i caught a little Trivium/ATR sound in the beginning. I really dig that!!
Embrace the Gutter was a bad ass, I enjoyed it from top to bottom. I could’nt get into the stuff after that album. For this single I think it is a step in the right direction, but they still got a long way to go. Ditch the melodic vocals and go back to the shred.
Embrace The Gutter was horrible. The dude they had doing vocals before McChesney was probably the worst metal vocalist Ive ever heard. I also saw them live and I thought, like a lot of bands they would be better live, but the vocalist just fucking sucked. Flat out.
anyone who talks shit about Autumn Offering is a toolbag geezer. These guys fucking shred, and the vocals are killers, so fuck the haters, keeping popping skulls McChesney.
requiem is up there with my most anticipated metal albums of 2009, right next to killswitch, august burns red, and children of bodom
