MYLES KENNEDY’S* NO-BULLSHIT TAKE ON THE CREED REUNION (*AKA OURS)

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009 at 9:55am by

creedFresh off the heels of the announcement that Creed will be reuniting this Summer (sigh…), Myles Kennedy — aka the actually-quite-talented singer 3/4ths of Creed hired to replace Scott Stapp in their new band Alter Bridge — issued a press release clarifying the future of that band. Thankfully MetalSucks is here to cut through the bullshit and give you the real skinny; we sent the offending press release over to the gifted MS Mansion Monkeys to parse, and the following is what we got back (our snarky commentary in bold:

Many of you are wondering how this Creed reunion tour will affect the future of Alter Bridge. Oh God, I’m fucked.

No worries, it won’t. Jesus Christ am I fucked. More fucked than a choir boy in a Catholic church.

I can assure you that as soon as they finish in October, we will move forward. When Creed finishes their tour in October, they’re probably going to want to record another record… boy oh boy am I fucked.

Contrary to false statements that might lead you to believe otherwise, Alter Bridge continues to be paramount to the four of us. That is if by “the four of us” you mean “me;” in that case, then yes, Alter Bridge is paramount to the four of us.

The guys have my full support. Van flip.

It’s a very complex situation to say the least. It had to be done. Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall gots to get paid, son!! Those fucking bastards.

I appreciate the fact that so many of you are concerned about our future. I’ll be taking PayPal donations if anyone wants to help a brotha out.

With that said, everything is going to be all right. This new gig at Starbucks should hold me over for now. Starbucks is getting into music now, you know?

Alter Bridge’s third record is well on its way. I started thinking about beginning to sit down to think about thinking about jamming on some new potential songs. They’re gonna sound rad!

The guys will embark on their reunion tour, I will make my record, and then we will carry on. I’ll make a solo record to keep myself from feeling like a complete loser, and hopefully by then Scott Stapp will be dead in a ditch. I’m fucked!

So. Creed reunion in 2009. Go figure.

    There really is no god.

  • diego

meeh…. anyway those guys sing exactly as the other, AB and creed sound the same, so who cares

    • Bill

Like him or not, Myles had a MUCH broader range than Scott Stapp could ever wish for.

    • Matt

AND Creed and Alter Bridge do NOT sound the same. If you’d get past the FIRST SINGLE that they released and listen to the stuff on Blackbird, you’d realize that Alter Bridge is NOTHING like Creed. Alter Bridge is amazing. Scott Stapp held them back. That’s all there is to it.

        QFT for Matt.

      • Suzanne

Are you kidding me??? sound the same????
OK the music MAYBE…AB is more hard core now than ever, but as far as Scot and Myles………. have you LISTENED to the AB music? seriously how can anyone who has ears say such a thing.
I will patiently be waiting for the AB reunion that is FO SHO…
Mark is a God on the guitar, Myles is a God behind the mic, Brian and Scott P are great also.
        COME BACK SOON PLEASE AB!!!!

  • CarlosRamirez

It’s been a tough year for Myles. First the Led Zeppelin thing and now this.

    *Uncontrollable sobbing*
    *drops to knees*
    WWWWWWHHHYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

  • Mike

Miles is a great singer. Plus he has the advantage of not being a jackass like Scott Stapp is. Plus when Mark and Myles get together in a room to write, great music comes out, as does great guitar work. Not so with Stapp, he kills all creativity.

  • poopsmcgee

mark tremonti is great. too bad he has such terrible taste in band mates.

  • Chris Berseth

Dude, I’m not a huge fan of either band, but Alter Bridge definitely schools Creed. Tremonti’s a pretty decent guitarist and Myles really does have some pipes on him.

  • Matt

Meh. Creed isn’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Yes, they’re a tad generic, lack any sense of humor whatsoever, and Scott Stapp is a major douche, but I thought they put out some good, heartfelt songs. And they beat the pants off of bands like Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin.

  • Miroslav

I think Myles will join Velvet Revolver now… :)

    • Matt

You say that in jest, but I could actually see that happening.

      • TheZombieSlayer

thats actuly not a bad idea…. we would be WAY better that Scott…. i wouldnt change the station if i herd VR and Myles making some music.

  • myke

ahhhh more crap rock reason why i dont listen to the radio anymore

  • exor666t

Slayer was right! God hates us all!!

  • Uglymicrowave

WTF IS A METAL BLOg coVeRing thIS SHIT!!!!

This Really is metal sucks.net for real..

fuck!….i’d rather read about more metalcore/screamo shit than this

  • Beastmaster

Shit Band. No Care. Van Flip.

    LAWL. :D

  • SonOF

I don’t like Creed, and after listening to a few Alter Bridge songs, it seems they sound pretty similar. However, I will say that this Miles Kennedy dude is a hell of a lot better than Scott Stapp.

And no, I don’t know why Creed/Alter Bridge are being discussed on this site either.

  • Marshall

Please welcome, the first horseman of the Apocalypse….an unwanted Creed reunion. Didn’t they piss off every last fan they had with their last tour (or lack there of)?

    • myke

the first sign was the limp bizkit reunion, now this. the world as we know it will end!!!!

      • Ben

Wow, Marshall and Myke… you two are sooooooo original. Let’s see… crappy band gets back together=Armageddon… yep, never EVER heard that one before.

        • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

          Ha. True story.

          • Marshall

I’ll admit not that original. Wasn’t going for orginality points.

  • Gordon Bombay

HAAAAA…The singer is TERRIBLE. He over sings in every fucking song. I watched youtube videos of that T-bagger and he sounds like shit live.

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

So, umm… how hated would I be on this site were I to admit (shamefully, mind you) that I once upon a time, many, many moons ago, I thought that Creed were all that is music?

    • Suzanne

Hey I think we all did at one time, hence why we are all here talking about this shit now LOL
I still have all the CREED music – I won’t lie, but whenever I hear them now on the radio or anywhere else, I get a pain in my stomach telling me it’s SHIT TIME HAAAAAAAAAHAHAH

  • Blackthorned

    I like Creed
    I like Alter Bridge
    I’m not cool
    I’m not ashamed

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jwFmbp4La0 Wicked Celtics

With so much bad news being posted it’s good to see some positivity!!!! Everyone wants to hate. yeah, I’d like to see them go triple DIAMOND, sell 35 millions records, right? exactly.

This is the BEST news I’ve ever heard…in my entire life. The one band that actually improved people’s lives by giving them a second Christ to look up to and give true hope that life can be worth living! Scott Stapp will be remembered as the songwriter of our generation, not to mention easily the best SHOW of our Millenia! Even his National Anthem soars skyscraper-height over Aretha’s inaugural rendition! I love Aretha, who doesn’t, but Scott dominates… and we should bestow upon him the honor and rock-god glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

    Officially,
    Wicked Celtics
    “Wicked C” if ya nasty

    • drumb

Maybe their album will do Triple Mir in sales?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jwFmbp4La0 Wicked Celtics

don’t ever be ashamed of your Creed obsession, Black thorned.

  • drumb

Holy fuck(!) this Altercreed shit is gay; why are you even infecting our eyes with this?
I bet you guys were laughing your nads off posting it for a reaction, right?
This is highly offensive to any of us Mexican pork-loving Metaloids.

  • Robert

ARE U TONE DEAF? Scott rapes Myles Kennedy. Myles high vioce makes me cringe. its that bad. oh and I can understand Scott alot better then myles. im like c’mon dude, wake up

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jwFmbp4La0 Wicked Celtics

“Van Flip” kinda made me laugh…but only SINCE THEY TOUR IN A JET now! Hello?!? They’re total thrillionaires now, dudes.

    -=Wicked C.

  • Mark

Alter Bridge do enter metal territory at times, hence why they are covered on this site. Creed were a good band with a big image problem, Stapp ended up killing them.

  • morid sami

Myles Kennedy “quite-talented”? are you retarded? He is one of the most talented musicians out there. Go listen to his work vocal work in The Mayfield Four and his guitar work in Cosmic Dust. He has one of the best ranges in today’s music and is a jazz oriented guitar player. He’s not the fastest guitar player but it’s not about speed. Mark Tremonti said in a recent interview “He’s a much better guitar player than I am” and he was being honest.
    Myles Kennedy OWNS!

  • John E. Homes

Creed is back for one reason, no matter what crap they sling in the media. “THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.” they will bring the cash, but Stapp will never top the song “Blackbird.” Just listen to that tune and you will understand. That song is, by far, the best tune that Tremonti and his 2 followers ever wrote with powerful vocals of the abandoned Myles Kennedy. lol, who knows. Maybe when Creed finishes this new “Rake in the Cash” tour, then they can write more songs with Myles. I am sure they have many left over song ideas that did not make the “Creed-Cut.” They will let Myles slap lyrics on those ideas. Stapp, “the solo failure” might get jealous about that though. As much as i hate to admit it, Stapp is more marketable, but on a better note,Kennedy is much more talented. I guess i should not expect anything more from a market that likes and believes that rap music is talent. lol. todays music: a monkey can grab a mic and say “hooga booga” on top of a song that they stole from actual talented musicians, anyway, that is a totally different topic.

  • Nick Gassaway

    Alter Bridge > Creed

Can we all agree on that?

You can’t compare Scott Stapp to Myles’ 4-octave voice

  • Timo

    Lemme see what’s happening…

-Myles kennedy is fronting Slash’s tour…
-AB ||| coming out this year
-Myles’ solo album coming out this year…

This is the year of MK, watch my words

  • Mithun

Ha ha ha ha hilarious cmon man give credit to these guys all five of them are god musicians and we have 2good bands here

  • Phase

His range doesn’t cover 4 octaves, it’s more like 2 and a half maybe 3.
    Lmao, retarded rumours.

  • Rebecca

Geez, rock fans are the snarkiest of them all. Whoa. I am a vocal coach and here’s my perspective:
Myles – slight edge due to emotional connectedness. Excellent tone as well.
Scott S: slight edge in tone quality (timbre); very dark and rich. They are both excellent singers, and both baritones. Myles is more likable, and “real”.
I prefer Myles but really do appreciate SS on Higher, etc. He can get the coolest sounds…that’s his greatest gift vocally.
Their voices are both resonant. Myles is able to bring tears to my eyes more easily; he sings from a very deep place in his heart and soul. That’s why I prefer him slightly… but most of you haters would give an eye tooth to have a voice as rich and as cool as Scott Stapp’s, so get OFF it!! There’s always room for TALENT and they both have it. Those guys are DAMN GOOD SINGERS!!! Scott is emotional as well.

btw NOBODY has 4 octaves – that is always a ridiculous rumor! a miscalculation. For ex; in simplest terms, if you can hit 4 different C’s it is THREE octaves.

  • Rebecca

*Correction (not that anybody cares!) – upon listening more to Myles, and reading comments of his own, I realized that he is a tenor, but not a super high tenor. He goes for a condensed and compressed sound in his low end and up into the middle voice which resembles the sound of a baritone. His high notes however betray this sound and reveal a true tenor.

    * I said in my earlier post that both Stapp and Kennedy were baritones.
