PROMOTERS WARN LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOMS NATIONWIDE: “HATEBREED AND CHIMAIRA ARE TOURING TOGETHER!”

Someday I’d like to try and work out some sort of mathematical formula to determine which bands actually do have the most brutal pits. You might think there’d be some correlation between pit violence and aural weight, but that doesn’t explain why, say, Napalm Death pits are, though nothing to scoff at, a fly on the ass of a Slayer pit. Fascinating.

Two bands that generally do have big, scary fucking pits: Hatebreed and Chimaira. And now Lambgoat reports that they’ll spend the late summer touring together. I know I sometimes give Jamey Jasta and company shit on this site, but, really, Hatebreed are best enjoyed in a live setting, where they pretty much manage to destroy each and every time they take the stage. And my feelings on Chimaira are, by now, I think pretty well documented.

Does the tour rider include provisions for multiple on-site ambulances? I sure hope so. Get tour dates after the jump.

I got in the Chimaira pit when I saw them for the second time last month. And, let me tell you, that was one of the most violent pits I’ve ever been in. They weren’t even this violent when I saw them open for Dethklok.

  • bearbomb

Wow, Chimaira is actually touring with a half way decent band?! Unheard of!

I know it’s the boring answer but Slayer would have to be the most brutal pit I’ve ever been in. Granted at the time I was one of those chicken shits that more or less just stood around the rim and pushed kids as they ran into me (hey somebody’s gotta do it). Then some fat fucker told me he was gonna beat my ass if I didn’t crowd surf. So I obliged and let him toss my shit in the air like the 140 lb. rag doll I was at the time. It was pretty sweet.

    • Kevin

      Not even half-way decent band
      Hatebreed is a joke

      • chad

        your mom is a joke.

  • http://www.radiofaction.com JasonEllisFan

Winds of Plague is doing this tour too! Should be sweet!

    • SonOF

Dammit, now all the 16 year old clowns are going to come out. :/

Damn, I hate living in Kansas.

  • http://www.citadelbloodbeard.blogspot.com Shanetera

I guess none of you guys saw them tour together for the (I believe) third Stillborn Fest stint. I saw them in Pittsburgh with a bunch of fucking awesome Stillborn bands and some others like Madball and Stretch Arm Strong.

  • KSRaider

thank god for that little rock date. we are finally getting some good shows.

  • Shep

    9/1 MR. SMALLS…IM THERE!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/orchids Daisy May Tinklepants

one of the biggest, nastiest pits i’ve ever seen was at a nothingface show.

  • Philo_Betto1971

Jackson MS.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn we are getting a decent show for once!

  • The Mighty Fucking Quinn

Ugh I hate having to go to Jersey.

  • eirk

they need to get out to the wet coast.

  • poopsmcgee

    wtf no canada still

    • politude

agreed, I want Chimaira BACK in Calgary ASAP

  • gnarlk

bros with no necks and basketball jerseys are going to be stoked. guido metal beatdown….

  • TimothyPlague

Winds of Plague is with them!!!

  • Mike

Yay, two crappy bands are touring together. I’d rather it be this than have one of them opening for Megadeth or something

  • Conduit

Hatebreed….. I don’t like that band but it’s hard to hate Jamey Jasta on stage. His routine is pretty played out (“we’re angry now, we’re just here to have fun, here’s a cute kid in a metal shirt, we’re angry again, we’re gonna start a huge pit now, now we’re having fun, now we’re angry again, now the show is ending give it all you have, scream so you can’t talk tomorrow… blah blah blah) but he does get a crowd moving and he’s always stuck to his guns. But way to tour on a covers record, seems pretty weak. Chimiara I have no idea about, I remember hearing some song with the chorus going “I HATE EVERYONE” and decided not to give them a listen again. Really you hate everyone? Just like every metalhead who ever lived?

Slayer will always be tops, mainly because people from all walks of life love Slayer, and everyone likes to get crazy to the most evil guitar sound ever created. I think if you have to direct pits you shouldn’t deserve to have one.

As for gnarliest pits, for me it was Napalm Death coming off Harmony Corruption. I saw them in England at some shit-ass punk club and practically everyone who went was pissed because they had this new singer and played fucking death metal. Needless to say the angriest fuckers I’ve ever seen were at that show, they forgot their hate for Napalm when the lights came down and I think it was Pintado at that point opened the show with an ugly harmonic and feedback for 5 minutes or so. It was pure fucking mayhem, a dude was thrown into the bar and smashed a huge hole in it, the roof panels were raining down on everyone, Mick’s drum mics were tossed into the crowd, fucking Barney was slugging people who came on stage or throwing them to the crowd, my Napalm shirt I just bought was drenched in blood. It’s still stained actually, never came out…

Well I won’t go see this show, I’m too old and broken to get in the pit these days. Gotta reserve the live shows for music I actually want to hear, not just mindless, angry thrashing against huge fat fucks.

    • SonOF

“. Chimiara I have no idea about, I remember hearing some song with the chorus going “I HATE EVERYONE” and decided not to give them a listen again. Really you hate everyone? Just like every metalhead who ever lived?”

I wouldn’t write off Chimaira because of the cheesy chorus of that one song…you are missing out.

And I would say that Hatebreed’s pits are the best around (compared to other big “mainstream” bands) – even better than Slayer. When Hatebreed opened for Slayer there was a big letdown in energy after Hatebreed played. Hatebreed’s pits were far better, and they are so much more lively on stage. Bands like God Forbid, Lamb of God, Unearth, Killswitch and Chiimaira rival Hatebreed as far as crowd action is concerned, but HB is still at the top of the heap.

  • sinistatroy

it looks like they are touring all kinds of low profile cities. No Denver, but Traverse city michigan and fuckin Sparks Nevada?? all the cities just seem a little off. must really be trying to get new people at their shows

  • Conduit

Living in Reno, Nevada here (Sparks is just a part of town) I can tell you Jasta likes to play Reno because we get absolutely zero shows that come so when metal shows do arrive all the metalheads show up even if they don’t like the band. We’re all stoked people are coming here and we don’t have to drive to Sacramento (which sucks) or the Bay Area (which sucks even more.) Fuck the standard show places I say, there are metal fans who don’t live in big cities, believe it or not.

    • sinistatroy

oh i believe it, i guess its cool more fans will see a show. look at a map of michigan, wow. prolly their first show ever, haha!

  • american hate

Alright I want to get something straight. I’m not personaly too anxious to see this tour but wtf s up with the ass clowns who schedule these tours? No New York date??!! Seriously – how the fuck do you have a tour of north america and not come to the greatest city in the land. Slayer and Testament are pulling the same shit. What gives?

  • SonOF

“Two bands that generally do have big, scary fucking pits: Hatebreed and Chimaira.”\

^^I definitely concur. Both bands have TIGHT live shows and massive, brutal pits. These two will compliment each other perfectly and will make for an awesome tour.

It’s friggin annoying that us New Yorkers will have to travel to f’n Starland though. :/

  • Conduit

Shit I can’t feel any sadness for a NY fan, you dudes get so much music you shouldn’t complain at all really

  • Conduit

And I don’t mean to be condescending, kinda came out that way

    • bucketochicken

No doubt. Of course, I was just about to bitch that there’s no Chicago date either…

Then again, even if there were, I wouldn’t go. I love Chimaira, and they’re great live, but Hatebreed? Ugh. No thanks. I like Jasta – he seems like a genuine and genuinely nice guy, but their music is um, a little too weightlifty for me. I have one of their albums… the one about satisfaction, or desire, or whatever, and I like “I Will Be Heard” (sorta), but um, yeah… I kinda felt like a douche when I listened to it. And then when that next one came out and dude was holding the maces/spiked clubs dealies? Oh man…
I saw them one time in Cedar Rapids opening for Slipknot way back when (well, now WAY back, but you know), and they were all polite to the crowd and real “gee whiz guys, thanks so much for coming out” and what not, and they looked like a softball team or something. Anyway, the dichotomy between that demeanor and the music was pretty funny. “Thanks so much! We love you! This next one’s called SMASH YOUR ENEMIES!” Haha, good stuff. Of course I had just smoked a j, but still.

  • Anus Apache

NICE Coming to VA. We don’t get enough shows down here. The letdown is I don’t think the Norva allows moshing….

  • RayRay

WOOO ROCHESTER. Ill be buying tix the day they go on sale. Seeing these bands in small clubs rules.

  • Mancubus

If they were coming to Chicago, I’d go just for Winds of Plague

    • PAULO JR

I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE A BIG OLD FAGGOT YOU GAYBOY

  • Elpants

Not sure if I can handle seeing Chimaira for a 3rd time.

  • Mesh

Good two shitty bands I wont have to worry about being forced to see with some decent bands this summer.

Both of these bands are terrible and you’re terrible for positing about them.

  • Erick

What? I saw Chimaira [much to my distaste) out here in June with Dethklok and they had the gayest pit I had ever seen. I mean, nobody in that pit was older than 16.

    Also, I agree with Mesh.

    • SonOF

What area are you from? I’ve seen Chimaira in Jersey and NY a few times and the pits were vicious.

      • Erick

        Colorado, dude.

  • groverXIII

Wow, two boring, repetitive bands playing together. Awesome. Woo.

    • NeverStopThis

Obviously you havent heard Chimaira, since they havent made one song that sounds like a previous song. Probably the most unrepetitive band around right now. Pick a song from each album and listen to it and see how many similarities you hear between them. That is, if your ears arent bleeding after the first, its a lot different than the Britney Spears album youre listening to right now.

  • http://www.myspace.com/bminekime enemyofgod72

I’ve been in a Slayer pit but the largest and most brutal pit I ever experienced was at Ozzfest ’97 when Pantera came on. The crowd opened up 2 gigantic circle pits on the fucking lawn!! 200 feet from the stage we rage!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NeverStopThis

Chimaira’s hometown is Cleveland and they’re not playing there. WTF?

  • Olinville

And the winds of plague 16yr olds will be destroyed, keep you bullshit in the dojo or the gay bar, your choice. and yo Anus: I’ve been in some nasty pits at Norva.
