NEWZ FROM VOLTA-LAND: *CRYPTOMNESIA* BY EL GRUPO NUEVO DE OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ OUT TODAY, AND NEW MARS VOLTA ALBUM COMING OUT NEXT MONTH

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 at 1:36pm by

Today’s release finds Omar, Cedric, and Juan from The Mars Volta teaming up with Zach Hill and Jonathan Hischke from Hella; I haven’t heard the album yet, but I suspect most fans of TMV will appreciate……here’s the first YouTube ‘trailer’ for Cryptomnesia:

The Mars Volta will also release their 5th studio album, entitled Octahedron, in North America on June 23rd and the rest of the world the day before — get psyched!!

You can catch the prog-rock posse extraordinaire at Bonneroo in Tennessee on June 13th, San Fran’s Outside Lands Festival on August 29th, and at various dates in Europe in between — check out the band’s MySpace page for dates and locations.

And not that we really care about the Grammies (read my recent round-up send-up here), but after the jump I’m including the Volta’s acceptance speech from this year’s ceremony (when they beat out Judas Priest, Rob Zombie, Disturbed, and Motley Crue, who they referenced backstage).

its removed….wtf?…defintly the most talented musicians in music today…

these guys are REAL musicians….everything about the word music comes out thru omar and cedric…

Francis the Mute was a good album, everything after that was just boring. Just cause you can improvise your entire live show and wank off on a guitar and piano for 20 minutes, doesn’t mean you should

You, sir, are no friend of good music.

TMV are the only Non-metal that I actually enjoy! I got hooked on De-losed and played it non-stop until frances came out. I hated aputechture but Bedlam is amazing. I hope that Ochtahedron shreds as much as I know these guys can.

    Let the wankery begin!

Seriously, though, how is this band still relevant? The Mars Volta is like a Hispanic Pink Floyd that can’t write actual songs. And to anyone who throws out the “they don’t write songs, they compose,” fuck you. I liked Deloused, but everything after has been a waste of 80 minutes.

come on man, you can’t be serious. if there be one relevant post2000 band it must be mars volta. they are progressive to the max, nobody sounds like them and they sound very fresh new and basically just very good. and actually they do write sons. they do and you know it. but it’s different, and it’s no metal of course. it’s closer to punk. they have regular songstructures in the very base of it, it’s just that they fill it up with all kinds of things you know, intro’s outro’s interludes overtures codas interludes. and if you don’t like it, well, you know, just don’t listen to it. problem solved.

I’m sorry that you feel that way. I’m not sure when the next Nickleback album comes out, but as soon as it does, I’ll make sure to over-night a copy to your house. No need to thank me.
You might ask “How did he know Nickleback was my favorite band?! :D”, I’m just good like that.
