Not for an entire tour. One leg is alright, if the album they’re playing live fully is one they have just been touring and they want to make one or two legs playing it all live. For Judas Priest, I think in 1991 they should have played all of Painkiller on Operation Rock N’ Roll tour…that would have been awesome.

It just feels like a smart business decision to me on the part of the bands. As much as I love the music, I realize that these guys gotta eat too. Playing old albums in their entirety makes sense because, for one, it brings out the old school fans who claim that “so-and-so really sold out after their third album, but their first album kicks ass!” Plus, it brings out the younger crowd who never had a chance to see most of those old songs performed live when they were new. In these crappy economic times, it pretty much just makes sense all around.

BTW: only Metallica should be allowed to suck.

Yes, it’s (usually) lame but I wouldn’t always say it’s an admission of irrelevance. Irrelevant to whom? Certainly not their fans. To a 12-year old rap fan? Probably, but then lots of things are irrelevant to a 12-year old rap fan.

The only thing which makes a once awesome piece of media now old and lame is you. You’ve aged, you’ve wised-up, and you have most likely developed a keen ear for poorly written music/lyrics which unabashedly colors your current perspectives on media from the past.

I get to see Priest perform British Steel in it’s entirety in July, pretty excited for that.

Would love to see more artists do this actually, considering they have excellent albums that flow well and they will still play other material before or afterwards. I.E: COLORS:LIVE.

I voted “No, it fuckin rulz” but with hesitation. Slayer doing Reign In Blood or Metallica doing “Master” is completely fuckin’ cool but the Crue or Ratt still performing anything is lame. It depends on the band and the album. If Slayer decided to play Divine Intevention in it’s entirety or Metallica decided to play “Load” then that would suck and no one would go. Overall bands from the beginning of modern metal playing their best work from their hayday is fucking awesome on the otherhand lameass bands playing crappy albums will always suck.

British Steel isn’t my favorite album, but hell, at least they’re not doing Turbo or Point Of Entry all the way through.

I think it’s pretty fuckin’ cool to play whole albums. But only the albums that are really great, that basically define the band. Most of the time there are at least like 4 or 5 kickass songs that were never played live!!!
