    SO MUCHE BETTER than Mars Volta. And holy shit how did these guys ever make it through a full set?!! Judging by all the live videos i have seen of these guys, I bet the drug dealers were happy to see these guys whenever they came to town.

I was just thinking about these guys two days ago after hearing Mars Volta (whom I’ve never liked for some reason, even though I dug Sparta) has a new album coming out. ATDI was boss and Relationship of Command was brilliant. Now if these guys got back together, I’d throw a shit fit of joy.

    on one hand, it was admirable that they packed it in while they were at their peak, but sadly the diminished returns of the post ATDI acts make me shake my head and wonder what else they were really capable of…

    My old band had the fortune of opening up for these guys at the Fireside in Chicago. None of us had ever heard of them (I think it was the In Casino Out tour), but we took the show because it was the first Friday or Saturday show we were offered at Fireside.

    Needless to say, they totally blew our minds. Great band!

    I don’t see the draw to this band. Yes, they have energy, a love of their craft and skill. But I still think this sounds terrible. And why does everyone on this site seem to love it? I NOEZ UNDERSTAND!!!

    Ok, I dug them when they were around. I bought one of thier CDs and enjoyed it a great deal. But maybe it was my speakers on my laptop, but that sounded like nothing but noise. I couldn’t make a song out of any of it. That was absolute shit.

      Maybe if you’d hear the album version first you’d be able to recognize the song. I did think this video was Vince being sarcastic or something until the song kicked in, one of the best songs they left us. If only Cedric would sing like this with The Mars Volta.

    So….not ever having heard this band, would that be considered a “good” performance? What would a “bad” performance sound like in this case? It’s like they’re channeling the MC5…

    Still, are there notes and rhythms that are played the same from performance to performance? It didn’t sound like that was valued too highly (not that that’s a bad thing necessarily). It seems you don’t even need to play anything half the time…

    Finally, how is this even metal, even loosely stretched?

    Good luck finding an internet video that appropriately captures the ferocity and quality of this band’s live performances. They were amazing…
    PS- Is channeling the MC5 supposed to be a bad thing? Not in my book.

    @jason – didn’t mean to imply channeling the MC5 was a bad thing. Nevertheless, this seems like a very different type of “ferocity” than, say, Slayer’s “War Ensemble”.

    Are the people groovin’ to this in the video groovin’ to the…well, I don’t know…what *are* they groovin’ to?
