this is what happens when you outgrow and outclass your audience. you get burnt by being above and beyond the people that you depend on.

he is a great musician but he should look to diversify and explore other outlets for his vision.

team up with weasel walter from the luttenbachers, do a remix with whourkr, mingle with some jazz dudes from the ny downtown scene, go tripping in goa, lick the sweat from berlin techno bunkers, play harp with joanna newsom, wank with chick korea, annihilate some gamelan orchestra – whatever suits your desires!

I experienced his statement about people just not getting it first hand. I show them open for Cattle Decap a few weeks ago and the dozen or so people that showed up didn’t get it. I did, and maybe a couple others.

Man Chris Arp is a fucking insane guitarist. Psyopus is great, but at times I find their overall sound gets a bit overwhelming after a while.

First of all, Converge has a very different sound to Psyopus. Converge has always had a much more distorted (noisy) sound to their music. If you compare them, Psyopus has a much more “crisp” sound to the recording. Im not saying either sound is better, but there is a difference and I totally get what Arp means by his statement.

and second of all, Where did the Cattle Decapitation reference come from? I have NEVER heard that before?

Third of all, audience and quality issue? lol A incredably vague statement, but im doubting it has nothing to do with the actual music.

You know how i know a person is just another douchie shit talker? When they use the phrase “____ for teenagers” OR when they start a sentence with “People say”, I mean who are these “people” and are they as gay as you?

Hilarious because he’s in Psyopus, the complete civilization endpoint of noisy mathcore.

Also, surprised at how old he is, glad he’s so articulate and aware, but to add a caveat to his comments about critics, though he is really on the ball regarding how they treat dissonant/difficult bands, Psyopus does suck. People who actually enjoy noisy/dissonant/unresolving or technical music dislike this band in the same way people into actual death metal and grind hate Cattle Decapitation. Its both an audience and quality issue, and it boils down to Psyopus being mathcore for teenagers who need background music to pretend that they’re edgy and can’t get into Dillinger or Converge or early Cave-In. Or any form of post-punk or post-hardcore for the matter.

It is a sign of real talent for a band to be as technical but still sound so insanely angry. I love this band. I watched a vid of Chris playing and it totally blew me away.

I love how whenever someone gets called an idiot they immediately go “I was being sarcastic”. Sarcasm does not translate well in the form of text., so even if you were actually being sarcastic, how the hell would we know that?

That comment really doesn’t appear to be sarcasm in any way though, there’s no shame in admitting you didn’t know who they are. I didn’t until about a month ago. I still don’t enjoy them either…
